the Daily Connoisseur love the KJV! I discovered recently that the worker ants are FEMALE, which wasn't known until fairly recently, so the king James is correct in referring to the ant as 'her'. Other versions call the ant 'it'. I started home educating over twenty years ago but I am writing all your tips down. We never stop learning.x

It is a blessing to see a younger woman embracing being a wife, mother and home manager, to do it well and to find it a joy. As an older woman, I am in a different season of life with health limitations. I am not able to work as many hours each day as I used to. So efficiency is very important to me, I must be organized and disciplined about getting my responsibilities done when I am well. Then on the bad days, when I am only able to do minimum, my house does not fall apart. If my house is tidy, my laundry kept up, a meal plan in place, I can have the slow, low days once in a while and not feel overwhelmed. I have also found things to accomplish when I have to sit a lot, write letters (and emails), crochet, sort drawers, do paper crafting, etc. Thank you, Jennifer.

Carolyn Maves Hi Carolyn. Thanks for posting this comment. It sounds like our situations are similar. Now that I'm older & widowed, I find it more difficult to stay organized & stick to a routine. When something fun to do pops up, I want to drop everything & do it to be spontaneous & "embrace" life. BUT, then I get annoyed with myself when I let things go & things start piling up around me. That's where I am right now, & I don't have the energy to go at it & stay at it "to the end." Have you created a schedule for yourself? If so, I'd sure like to see if it would work for me. Thanks again!

Years ago when I first had my treasured twins, I was tired & a little down. A doctor mentioned to me that I could wake up earlier than they did, so that I wouldn't associate "I had to get up because I had twin babies". It was the beginning of enjoying my new life with children. I took care of myself first and then had the mental capacity to take care of others after. Most days this worked & of course, sometimes they were up early. Then we just stuck with our routine & expectations for the day. I found if I expected & scheduled a routine, that is how my daughters felt most secure. It's amazing how planning & goal setting really do work!

Right. I feel as though many mothers don't realize that there is a free babysitter for them daily and that is waking earlier than your children. Sleeping late never worked for us. The kids knew and stayed up super late just because I was up

As Gretchen Rubin says, "The days are long, but the years are short." I'm not in the same stage of life as you, but I am inspired by your example of setting your priorities in alignment with your values, and it is good to be reminded that being efficient can help save time to savor the good moments. One tip I have for traditions comes from my job as a second grade teacher: I remind my students (and myself!) that nothing lasts too long - good or bad. Hate spelling? Don't worry, it's almost math time. Hate writing? Don't worry, we have a science experiment coming up.

Oh my goodness, I am SO THANKFUL I found your channel!!!! I have been PRAYING for the Lord to help me be more productive, efficient, and better at scheduling my day. I just had my 3rd baby in March, am starting to homeschool my oldest this fall, we are about to move across the country, and my brother passed away on Father's day in a tragic accident. To say I haven't been efficient lately is an understatement. I had cut tv for years, but added it in these past few months and WOW, I hate how little I am getting done!! Thank you so much for these videos. I can't wait to get your books. God bless you in your worthy endeavors!

Getting up before everyone is a GAME CHANGER. I am not a morning person, but I needed some alone time and I needed to get into a routine again of doing a devotional. So I started waking up a half hour before my family. Well, then my kids started waking up half hour earlier lol. Eventually waking up at around 5:30 a.m. works. You don't need an alarm clock after a while. But what did help in the beginning was when my alarm clock went off I bent my knees upwards. Eventually that would keep me awake so that I got up. If I don't wake up early, my day is a little "off" and I'm definitely not as productive. I just discovered your channel and I love it!

Jennifer, this is the life many women led as I was becoming a young woman. I am at the "tail-end" of the baby boomer generation. Many women were still homemakers, wives, and that was the mainstay of their lives. I loved it as well. I never understood when times changed and women no longer felt fulfilled maintaining a lovely home-regardless of your means-making this home "you." Having children and raising children so you were the key influence in their lives. When they went back to work, the thought of "latch-key kids" always kind of hurt my heart. Moms are missing out, and for sure, kids were missing out. No judgement, but I do understand so dearly how you feel. You are doing a beautiful job before the Lord. I love you are teaching God's word to your children, and explaining to them through the example of the ant, the value of preparation and work!

We gave up TV 20 years ago. Best decision we've made. It was more about what we could be doing instead of zoning out. When our kids were small (toddlers) we began to read aloud chapter books. My boys learned to love books. We also listen to music and play games. A book that inspired us to give up TV is "The Plug-In Drug" by Marie Winn. Thanks for all your inspiring videos.

I agree with you, I don't understand how people waste time watching tv and so much socials. The only thing I literally watch is Grey's anatomy, I wait for it to be on Netflix every June. Then I take some evenings , and watch it with no commercials, ( it's a treat for me as I am in the nursing field) other than that , I have no clue what is on tv lol. I obviously have my favorite you-tubers lol. I'm extremely structured so I can relate. Love waking up before my girl and having my coffee and getting my prayers in, and my thoughts for the day. 🙋🏻

So blessed to have found your channel! I've been needing motivation to really put my all into being a mother, caring for our children and our home. I'm a Christian, we don't watch television, don't have social media, and spend as much time being present with each other as possible but it's been hard to find people (friends) who want to live the same way --plus I'm only 24. But here you are! It's still so hard to put in the elbow grease for the life you want; being pregnant definitely throws a wrench in energy-wise, but I'm in the second trimester, ready to take your tips and run! Thank you, God bless.

I hardly ever watch TV and have dropped all but You Tube and Instagram for social media. I feel so much better and find I am able to fit in what needs to be done and have time for things I really enjoy! One thing that is helpful for me is a list I made for my planner that includes what I need to get done daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. I don’t have to worry about forgetting something because it is written down. I refer to it often to see what is coming up and put it on my To Do list. Thank you for your ideas, I always love being more efficient! Connie

I don’t have extra tips. Like you, I meal plan for the month, I also have a yearly cleaning planner for those jobs I don’t do ever week. I have 3 teenage children and work 3-4 days a week. You can do everything you want to do if you’re organised. Even watching TV. I find that I have the most of my energy in the mornings so that’s when my cleaning gets done. I cook most of my meals from scratch even when I work. It’s cheaper and I like it more. Meal planning is very helpful as I know that every day I know what to cook and will have the ingredients. Then after our dinner, that’s when I watch KZread or Netflix. I don’t watch mainstream TV. I listen to podcasts or audiobooks when I’m driving to work or when I’m cleaning. And some days I feel like doing nothing and just sit and rest or go for a walk by myself and have a little me time. As for the interview with Nikki, yay! I love you both so it’ll be nice to have you together in the same video.

i've always planned meals too, anyone who mocked me, but then tried it...they loved it😄. I'm a big schedule person, I plan conferences, so love my job, lots of lists, I use Microsoft To Do, it slides emails into the list. I have a cleaning schedule and laundry. I have on the laundry schedule...load towels the night before and I turn the machine on the next morning, I try to distribute things that day, but on the schedule distribution is the next day...so if I can't complete it that day I'm still on schedule 😊I spend time with work, I'm allowed to work from home, I spend time in the garden, I sew, and I have playtime during the week with grandkids, schedules keep everything working...(I have my garden divided by zones so I weed and feed by a schedule) There are people who don't understand scheduling helps with efficiency, I feel freedom with scheduling because I get to do things I enjoy. If you do only one thing, plan your meals, you will have the supplies, makes cooking fun.

Your videos are so delightful! I am in a different stage of life, have grandkids and I’m retired. My worst habit is TV, I was raised on TV and have always used it as a way to relax, and I love to binge watch series’s before I realize it I have spent hours in front of my iPad. I hardly read anymore and am always behind in my projects. I know I probably just need to go cold turkey but haven’t had the guts to move forward, the old you know what to do but still don’t do it syndrome. I was never raised to set goals but I do have a regular cleaning schedule, every time I try to set a goal I can never decide on one, just keep ⭕️. I love the inspiration and example you are giving for young families, the world could do with more of that.

My tip that has worked for me is to write out my "to-do" list and then number each item in order of priority. I just know myself, if I want to read my bible and exercise every day, I have to make a very deliberate decision to say that it has to be #1 and #2 on the list, as opposed to just being somewhere on a long list. Oh Jennifer, I am catching up with all your videos, they are great. I will like to tell you a bit on how I find out so many things you mentioned about being more efficient I did myself years ago. Like you, I homeschool my 2 kids, now they are out on their own and the first thing I did in 2017 was to cut my cable and Facebook. Then I had so much time to do things I really like and got my family and good friends in whatsupapp to keep up with their lives and pictures... I have many relatives around the world. I was able to give back to my community sewing masks and then went back to one of my first loves...cross stitch. So I am at peace, keep current events but I refuse to "marinated" on them, cross stitching and meeting wonderful ppl in you tube that share my hobby. I have young nieces whom I constantly advice (if they ask) or share my experiences. They are wonderful young ladies and now teaching their own kids about being a wonderful homemaker and taking care of the most important career in the world ...wife and mother. Thank you for all your great ideas and advice about what really is important, your home.

Then oddly later (just as for you) when I do have time to go back to my work, it's hard to get out of the family/cleaning/cooking mode. Thank you for all these wonderful tips on being more efficient. So appreciate them. 💕, Kate

Just yesterday I deactivated both my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Social media for me (and the internet in general) is a giant time waster! It was making me anxious keeping up with everyone so I decided a break was in order. I'm hoping this will really help with my productivity as well as my mental clarity. I also just want to live more in the present moment. Thanks for sharing! I would love to know more about your specific routines. I have two children and always feel frazzled!

I was nodding when you were saying you “get in the zone”! I call it “go mode” and sometimes my husband will see me mid task and ask ....are you okay? Lol I’m just that focused! Also you inspired me to rethink my Netflix subscription, I had it when I was younger but wasn’t watching it (and I was paying) and then resubscribed recently because I got caught up in the “buzz” of people talking about their favorite shows. I realised I haven’t watched it in over two months! So I closed my account. Now I can use the money for something more rewarding :)

Thank you :) Sometimes it does just take a gentle reminder that we all have the same 24 hours in a day. If you spend them making excuses and not getting things done - they will remain undone. We can't always let ourselves off of the hook for inaction and messy houses.

Good tips! I have homeschooled my three girls all the way, the eldest just graduated! I did find that making that period, especially during the elementary years, solely dedicated to homeschooling afforded me the pleasure of doing it to the best of my ability. I am now pursuing my art and writing endeavors. Seasons of life 😃💕🌸 lovely video as always

I should add- we were very social so we had our homeschool group over once a week, and I have been able to volunteer with the activities the girls are involved in such as theatre, Odyssey of the mind, dance, dog training classes etc! So if you homeschool and do not have your own side thing, you can help out with all the fun activities and interests that your children are involved in and you gain experience and connections for yourself at the same time!

I too have stopped watching television (Dec 29, 2017). For the first three or four weeks I did have some withdrawal, but now I am torn about keeping my television or donating it. It feels like a permanent life choice right now. In the past 6 months I've been keeping better track of my spreadsheet budget, reading more, meditating in the morning and evening, keeping a daily gratitude journal and a daily assessment journal of how my day went, I've almost finished painting a chest and cleaning the hardware (which I've kept stored in my garage for over 5 years) to be moved to my entryway in the next week. And I've also reduced my social media time, more so because I feel like it's a negative environment too much of the time. My next resolve is to get a better handle on my KZread watching habit before it starts to get out of hand. Perhaps that's a subject that you could handle...too much of a good thing??? One last thing... thank you for your well thought out videos.

Can I share my tid bit with you? I hope you do keep the television for special movie nights, educational documentaries, etc. While I have never had cable, netflix, etc, I do enjoy renting movies from the library on occasion and it's a very special and fun activity, instead of a daily drain on time.

I think a general career advice video would add even more value to this channel. You so graciously share a lot about you as a homemaker, a wife, a mother, etc, but a bit less about you as a professional working woman (I know you do have some videos on this...self-publishing, for example). In 2018 we know that women don't have to choose between a career and a family, but to a degree that stigma still lingers. Learning more about your journey as a writer and how you've successfully built the Daily Connoisseur brand would be very inspiring!

I so enjoyed this video. I don’t watch television anymore either. I rarely ever sit down and watch anything period. I do watch KZread often, but it’s nearly always while I’m actively doing something else. I, like you, dislike the feeling of wasted time and embrace productivity and efficiency. That being said, I also completely eliminated all social media, (with the exception of KZread of course), from my life a year and a half ago and never looked back. My life since doing so has been drastically different. Thank you for sharing this video, Jennifer. You’re an inspiration as always.

I have been waiting for this video, and hopefully there will be more on your structured and efficient way of life. I learned a lot and have some great takeaways and I also have more questions, too. Your pantry organizing video was spectacular, and I'd love for you to do one on your new filling cabinets and "establishing a filing system" as you said it was one of your goals and not one of your favorites. Please talk about your filing system in a future video as this is a roadblock for me and although people ask us if our house "is always this neat," I know I can do better in this area with "paper." I'd also love to see your cleaning routine(s), too. I like your various structured routines on cleaning, cooking and writing to be productive through your efficiency and it truly shows in your life. Ah, to be the ant and not the sluggard! We learn from all creatures great and small. One question I have is how do you manage your KZread watching so it doesn't get longer than you wish? It can be much like television, if we let it. How many hours a day do you spend on your favorite KZread channels and what are some you recommend? Do you get your news online and from what sources or do you read a newspaper? We read the "Los Angeles Times" print edition and at nighttime will watch a 30-minute news program and then "Jeopardy" which we find both entertaining and enjoyable. After that, I will usually read or as I'm doing now, catching up on your KZread channel, because yours is my favorite. The choice you and your husband made to not be zombies and put more enriching material into your lives is really powerful and motivating to me to make that choice with my time. That's a great decision. Another takeaway is that you and your husband talk a lot and hold conversations together. I don't have that in my life and it seems really lovely. As for planners, I've always used a monthly planner, which is my layout preference, because I love to look at the entire month. I buy one from Gallery Leather which I like very much, because I order it in navy leather and I like the ribbon to mark my pages. I also type up a weekly "Daily Notes" on one page, so I can see my to-do list of assorted running items. You were born efficient and I'm grateful you're sharing these fabulous tips! Thank you, Jennifer.

Fantastic inspiration! I'm fairly organized, but I regret I fall into some of the traps you mention. I've falling out of love with Facebook....I still use social media for connecting with other teachers (and to get classroom ideas for work) but I'm learning to target that time intentionally by setting a timer on my phone. When time is up, I log out! If not, I could spend HOURS researching teaching ideas or classroom decor ideas. Jennifer, you really inspire me in so many ways. Thanks so much!

I'll certainly be re-watching this video in the future for motivation. ;) Your family motto is absolutely delightful, and I may start using it with my girls, as well. It's called self discipline and you have it in abundance. And you absolutely do have a life, the life of your choosing, and your ability to be self disciplined allows you to enjoy that life. We all choose how we're going to spend our time and live our lives. Kudos to you for doing what YOU love and want to do with your time and your life. If you and your family are happy, then it doesn't matter what others think or believe, they have their own lives to live and should concern themselves with that. I appreciate the helpful tips that you share with us here and I also read Madame Chic a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you very nice. I felt your meal plan might be nice to see I'm a newer watcher so ill see if you posted it. One thing about efficiency I felt a glass or thick acrylic table cover over the cloth would limit how much you had to wash the table cloths. Also love the 10 item wardrobe!! And wonderful scripture my pastor calls the King James "the pirate version". But remember beautiful lady take a day of rest a week technically its Saturday for everyone in the family. Growing up we were taught that women were liberated but when I gave birth to my daughter I loved being her mom and didn't want to work outside the home. I did but I felt no one had told me being a work from home mom and wife would be so fullfiling. I felt lied to by society.

Notes from this video: 1) Wake up earlier than the rest of your family so you can be prepared, for your own needs before they need to be attended to. At least an hour before they wake up. 2) Stop watching television. Alternatives - audiobooks (can do chores whilst listening) and books. 3) Try not to waste time on social media - Facebook can be a rabbit hole. Only use for work purposes and keep usage targeted. 4) Make goals for yourself. Professional and personal. 5) Make schedules and routines. Structure gives freedom. 6) Use a planner and calender on your phone. 7) Meal plan and freezer cooking. All of these things combined = efficiency.
