For a budget blend .... fourteen quid .... it's quite impressive. Lovely creamy custardy feel and the flavours are orchard. It's not complex but at fourteen quid no one is expecting complex. It is simply a very nice pretty smooth drink of whiskey. Very impressed for the price. Very pleasant dram.

jackbackband indeed - I always have a bottle at the back in case I run out of my go-to drams :)

Picked up this and Lidl's Ben Bracken Islay on the back of all the good press. It's a perfectly respectable blend but closer to JW Red than Black, which has a lot more going on and is more 'integrated' to boot. But at £13.50 it's excellent and, pound for pound, the equal of anything out there atm. Nice straightforward review. Cheers!

Yeah sorry - I recorded this my iPad but the built in mic was too far away to do a decent job. Didn’t realise until after recording :-/

Chris Wilson it certainly is :) I actually prefer it to quite a lot of the £20 to £25 single malts I get - it’s an easier drink and has a more interesting flavour in many respects

What are the other whiskys you normally buy?

I have an expensive one (150 quid) which was best whisky of 2018 - lovely but so well balanced it almost feels bland - I’d got used to all those sharp edges. I also favour midleton, bulleit bourbon, the singleton, among others. I’m usually disappointed by anything cheaper than 25 quid and find 38 to 40 quid a sweet spot for higher quality whisky that doesn’t break the bank - but I’m always trying new ones Ill update this when i get home with the actual whisky names - i cant remember - I don’t really pay enough attention and my day job is very technical so finer points are only retained on really important matters :D

If possible could you provide me a link for the ranking? im not an avid drinker, but im starting to explore it and would like to find some new options
