Liberate Your Breathing - Introductory Feldenkrais Lesson - Better Breathing Through Exhalation

Ойын-сауық

This is the first class in the series of 5 Awareness Through Movement® lessons with Feldenkrais® Teacher, David Zemach-Bersin, designed to help you learn how your breathing can be used to regulate your nervous system, improve your posture, and bring you into a neurologically harmonious, healing state.
We hope you enjoy this Introductory lesson to the 4 lesson series, Liberate Your Breathing. To gain access to the entire series, visit: www.feldenkraisaccess.com/lib...
Because our breathing reflects the state of our nervous system and every change in our activity and emotions, and because the way we breathe affects our cell health, cognition, blood pressure, posture, and movement, one of the most beneficial things we can do is to develop better breathing habits.
This program with David Zemach-Bersin is an opportunity to make dramatic improvements in the way you breathe. Over the course of five lessons, (including the introductory class) you will learn how to activate the powerful breath-brain connection, experience different ways of breathing, debunk a few myths, and discover how you can use your breathing to promote better health throughout your whole self.

Thank you David for the lesson. I am learning like a child I feel. Feldenkrais lessons though easy but very effective, as have been observing I was unable to walk easily and quickly, I found one need not be quick but take things easy. My nerves are better with these lessons. Would like to know, why do we stand our feet during these lessons? Thanks once again for the opportunity to know what and how does Feldenkrais method work.

This is great to hear, frenykhory5158! Learning like a child can be deeply transformative. Standing your feet can promote a reduction of muscular effort in your abdomen. It can also promote a more skeletal connection with the floor, much like standing upright. May you continue to feel the benefits of your explorations!

Hi, wonderful lessons! Would you suggest doing these every day, or prefer taking a day or a few off for best integration?

Dear David - Yes, an Awareness Through Movement lesson everyday, or even 2 lessons a day, can be incredibly helpful! Our nervous systems integrate best during sleep, so a lesson in the evening is often the most potent. But find what works for you! There is no right way! So glad you are finding benefit from these lessons. ❤

Absolutely! It's great that you are thinking of ways to meet yourself. If sitting is an option, it may be easier to relax your abdomen in sitting than in standing, but the best way to find out is certainly to try it. And please keep us posted on how it goes.

Thanks for writing, Liz, and I am sorry for the delay. I don't think it is advisable to do anything that causes discomfort. Better to NOT hold your breath for so long. See if 5 seconds is better, and then maybe add a second each time you repeat the lesson to see if your tolerance increases. The number of seconds is not important, though. Your comfort and ease is always your best guide.

My neck felt a bit stiff after this. Any ideas why?

  • @cja0071

Ask your neck that question. Do the lesson again, but in smaller bites, resting or doing the movement more gently or smaller whenever your neck gets unpleasantly involved. Skip movements that trigger neck effort or effort around the neck. And be kind to yourself if none of this helps, it will get easier

Dear Andrea, sorry for the delayed reply. Often times the answer to why we are sore after doing a Feldenkrais Lesson can be because we did too much. Not seeing you, it is hard to answer definitively. But, I would also suggest that it may have to do with your head support. You want to make sure your head is in a neutral position to your spine. Make sure you don't have too much behind your head, tucking your chin toward your chest, or your head hanging backward. Finding our comfort can be a challenge sometimes, but well worth the investigation! Again, sorry for such a delayed response, and feel free to email if you have further questions or concerns. juniper@feldenkraisaccess.com
