The dialoge options to the left tend to be questions that don't further the converstation, while the right options remove the option to ask them later, at least generally.

Commander, please learn how to pry your teammates each time they let you a step closer. They are all fascinating people with great stories. As was said already, right side dialogue options tend to close the topic. Yet sometimes Investigate expands all over the wheel, all options then go as left sided. Sometimes companion's line pops one-time responses, you'll recognize them among previous options. And thank you for choosing ME. This is one of the stories that will stay with you forever.

Combat tip: While in paused mod you can hold one of your mouse buttons ( or both don't exactly remember) to move your camera around and actually aim at specific enemies. Some abilities won't work without direct aim on enemy. Also you need to have line of sight on those enemies( aka not behind the wall/rock even if you see marker). You can also drag your abilities to quick slots 1-8 for immediate access without pausing. Becomes much more valuable in 2nd and 3rd games.

Krogan Battle master is IMPORTANT. Raising your characters overall class is good.

You never forget your first thresher maw! 😆 I haven't watched to the end of the video yet, so you may have already discovered this, but in case you haven't, your Mako has a main cannon as well as its machine gun. Not sure of the controls for mouse and keyboard, but you should probably look it up. You'll do a lot more damage with that! 😊

Those fights on the Liara recruitment mission (where you first run into the Geth on the hill and the Krogan inside) are definitely where most players first really encounter the "actual" Mass Effect difficulty. The thresher maws and geth destroyers on planet exploration become a lot easier once you realize you can dodge with the Mako (especially the destroyers, since their shots are slow and if you time Mako jumps correctly wil just drift underneath you) but they can still be rough, so just know we all struggled with them! Also, regarding editing out the smaller planets, don't stress too much about feeling like we only want to see the mainstoryline. Planet exploration and sidequests are a big chunk of these games, and some of them do intertwine w/larger plots or are just cool, so I'm sure nobody will complain if you decide to include them. I say this just because you made a comment earlier about feeling like you need to edit them out.

You should probably pull up your abilities to your skillbar 1-8 to quickly do abilities in combat without pausing.

The Thresher Maw leads its shots. Best bet is to quickly change directions when it fires, since the projectiles aren't guided. Also, you can drag abilities to the quick slots so you can just hit the numbers to use them.

Krogans in ME 1 are like terminators, they just keep going :o so annoying to face close combat

Congratulations on your first Boss Fight. And your second. That first one is a huge spike in relative difficulty compared to everything before it. And you got Liara out of Prothean Prison (which I feel pretty sure the building was). One tip is that you can use the Ctrl key to zoom on the Mako when shooting (and driving, but that makes it harder to steer). Useful for long range shooting duels. You also can unlock containers with any member of your squad, so as long as one of them has the relevant skills your character doesn't need them (I'm currently replaying, and my solldier-class doesn't have any of the skills - Tali is pretty much permanently in my squad). Sadly I don't think bioware had decided how to make 'Renegade' options that weren't either rude, racist or stupid in ME1. I imagine if that's how you normally behaved then the conversation at the start of the game where Udina asks, "What about Shepard?2would go, "Shepard's a racist idiot, pick someone - anyone - else."

I can give advice. In order to make the game more fun, choose "negative" "aggressive" options in some situations where it does not affect the main plot.

you probably already figured it out, but Mako can "jump" and you can avoid lof of that Treshermaw's (big worm) shots keep distance, don't get close to him, often even if you don't se his healthbar, weapons still hits, but you can keep medium distance relatively safe, once you figure out the mechanics also a tip, don't forget to equip addons to your weapons and armor, they help a lot, espcially higher tires. For weapons use different addons (if you have antipersonnel or toxic rounds on pistol, use armorpiercing or hammerhead on sniper for example, to account for armored targets) also don't forget about granades, they are more like a shot with flat curve and can be exploded in mid flight also cover, cover, cover, learn it now or you'll be boned later

In fact, "don't worry about which teammate to take with you" is very bad advice. You should worry. If you're not worried, your game will become a lot more difficult at first because it's pretty obvious that you should be using tech skills against the geth, biotics against unarmed organics, and both (mass effect mixed martial arts) against armed organics. Wrongly selected team may prevent you from completing some missions to the best. You have already noticed that the wrong command may prevent you from opening some crates due to insufficient decryption or electronic skills. One more thing. Please note you must aim directly at the target the moment you use most offensive abilities (such as Sabotage, Overload, Throw, Lift, Warp etc.). Otherwise, you are simply wasting your abilities without the slightest effect. Thank you for playing, it was fun to watch.

Squad members abilities only really matter when you play on Insanity. Which he is not. Other wise you can just bring your favorite characters. Or whoever you want.

When you open up Equipment, and suddenly see a random long list of items to pick up or turn into Omnigel, that is basically ME1's version of enemy loot. You don't interact with the bodies, they just randomly drop stuff into your inventory when you kill them 😉 One bit of hopefully acceptable backseating: offensive abilities like Sabotage, Lift, Overload etc need to be targeted on an enemy with the center of the power wheel. Often this does not work well when hunkered down behind cover and you just throw them right next to Shepard, as you did quite a few times in this video.

Liara! MAKO! I've forgotten a bunch of enemies but not the Geth Stalkers XD You might be hitting them in the edits anyway but Mass Effect is as classic Bioware as it gets so talking to everybody and talking to ship crew between missions is essential (and rewarding), and reading through the Codex gives a ton of background info.

love the playthrough so far! i try to play mass effect at least once a year its my top game for sure!

When you use teammates abilities, look at the TARGET you want them to use it on!

This was my favorite of the trilogy. The 2nd one has more responsive combat but makes a lot of dumb changes too, and the third is... ugh. You'll see. I'm definitely along for the ride, though. The decisions you make in each one carry over to the next in some ways, so its good that you're starting with 1.

You have to use more of your powers instead of just shooting. It will make things easier!

when you use non-passive powers like lift or damping you need to point at the enemies otherwise they won't work

Beginner plays should always put the squad mates on auto everything. It makes the games so much better for them.
