Mass Effect is a single-player action role-playing game in which the player takes the role of Commander Shepard from a third-person perspective. It is the first game in the Mass Effect series, and takes place within the Milky Way galaxy in the year 2183, where civilization is threatened by a highly advanced machine race known as the Reapers. The player assumes the role of Commander Shepard, an elite human soldier who must stop a rogue agent from carrying out the Reapers' galactic invasion.

Played this in 2007. LIterally went from playing as Paragon to full on Renegade after this encounter that carried over to ME2 and 3. Can you think of any video game out there that has literally instilled such dread and cosmic horror in you that you LITERALLY change the way you play the game in terms of morality? Cuz I did.

@@IAmNotARobotPinkySwear I was full on Paragon in ME1, but things got a lot more Gray in 2 lol. My Shepard still had his good heart, but it all became stopping the Reapers, no matter the cost. I shifted back to more solely Paragon with a few Renegade decisions made to "do what's right".

To this day, Sovereign's speech still remains one of the greatest in gaming history. The mystery, the music, and the voice all blend together perfectly. This one works better than later conversations in the other games precisely because the Reapers as a concept were fresh in your mind, when later on you would have known too much to be intimidated.

There's so much missable content, it's wild. RIP our boy Kaidan. You right. That bomb was going off either way. You had to choose him or Ashley. Good on you for thinking of the salarians too. On insanity, Tank and Biotics are king. Kaiden is a more versatile choice to cover tech-skills than Tali and Garrus (F-tier)

I’ve saved both Kaidan from the bomb site AND Kirrahe and the salarians in all of my playthroughs. I wish the game made it clearer that saving Kirrahe and the salarians has no connection to saving whoever is at the AA tower (as logic-defying as that may be). A lot of people seem to be influenced by that misconception and it impacts their choice of VS when the Kirrahe/salarian rescue is actually contingent upon other actions in the mission. It’s a bit of a flaw in the game’s communication (or lack thereof) of its own hidden mechanics.

And getting Wrex's armor guaranteed his survival in ME1! Congrats! You can reap Garrus and Tali's benefits in 2! And believe me, despite the initial mixed towards her, most of us prefer Ashley over Kaidan, even though they're both great characters overall. You chose like most of us, it's all good! And excellent work choosing the paragon choice with Saren, remember to do it for the final boss too! One last reminder, just to make sure you're enjoying the combat to the max: Aim at the target and THEN click the ability. Throughout the playthrough, you've been doing the reverse, that's why a lot of the times they miss or hit something else.

the genophage doesnt kill krogan adults it mostly effects the fertility of the females causing stillborn births and miscarriages, but successful births do happen. the goal of the genophage was to reduces the birthrate among krogans because they bred and matured much faster than other species. if the genophage was cured the birthrate would increase by 1000 times what it is with the genophage. making the krogan race stronger by sheer numbers and could possibly lead to krogan expansion and subsequent wars, especially because war and violence is a part of the krogans nature and culture.

Can you think of any game EVER that has made you change HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME IN TERMS OF DECISIONS? Any game that literally instilled a sense of doom and fear in you from one specific moment in said game instead of an overall vibe? Can you think of any game out there that has given you goosebumps the way sovereign's voice/speech does? Because IMO, this is the ONLY game I've ever played (been playing since Duke Nukem 3D back in the 90's) that has made me literally change how I play a game (morality), if that makes any sense. She's very subtle and precise when she speaks, and it doesn't always translate exactly how a human might say something :) Not that that invalidates your overall point! I also kind of headcanoned that for the most part it's a pretty ragtag group that's only slowly coming together and some relationships are stronger than others. Love it about the game too, way too many games just make everybody besties immediately (or unnecessarily continue to drive tension.)

Just like how Japanese names are Surname-First name, the Krogan have a similar organizing. So you see Urdnot first, but that's actually his surname, while Garrus, Tali and the others all have their first name listed first. So Wrex is actually his first name. Also, you finding his family armor and talking to him on the ship makes Wrex much more pliable to convince. If you hadn't, this conversation on Virmire with him _could_ get a very different twist if your Paragon wasn't already very high, so yes, you were correct in that assessment. It would get as worse as where you get to see dialogue options like "Signal Ashley to shoot Wrex in the back". *Squad synchronization* Yeah, ME1 didn't really have a close-knit group of people. Possibly because there were time constraints, or because they wanted to not alienate the shooter-fanbase that didn't care about the characters as much. But after hearing how everyone, _including_ the shooter-fanbase, wanted more character interactions and closeness, both ME2 and ME3 built upon that majorly that it became almost legendary. Then again, Bioware already had the reputation for doing that much in terms of character development and personality/interaction from their earlier games back in the 90s, like Baldur's Gate. So my assumptions towards time constraint and the shooter-fanbase alienation may be very plausible. *Help the Salarians* Yep, disrupting the communication devices, destroying the flyers and such are all optional targets, but if you find and do them it increases the chance of Kirrahe's teams to survive the mission. One of these things are at 57:10, the red satellite on top of the building. Those things won't get highlighted when you run, so you've missed that one. I don't know why that message was displayed at 1:00:44 because you've missed destroying it at 57:10 . At 57:52 you see the flyers, which also help in keeping the teams alive. If you ignore them, you can actually lose a significant portion of the Salarians, even Kirrahe. *Sewer* You can actually go through the sewers to avoid using the main entrance, but almost nobody knows there's a door there to hack, so most people only discover this once they're inside. It does mean you never get to disable the alarms near the main entrance where Tali did so in the cutscene, so I honestly don't know what consequences that has. I find the regular route more satisfying, so I've never tried it myself.

After Virmire, you may want to go do the X-59 Asteroid DLC as well, if you haven't done that one yet. And yes, Quarian armor is pretty rare and the ones you find are pretty average, but that DLC has a good one. It also has a good omni-tool. There aren't many options where you can undertake that DLC after Virmire anymore, so if you progress the story too much it'll become unavailable. I'd hate for you to lose content you might still want to experience.

So, regarding companions not talking to each other much, they actually have a lot of interactions on the citadel elevators. In the original version of the games, you couldn't skip the elevator segments because they served as loading screens for the next area, so they put those conversations there to make the wait more entertaining. Unfortunately, it looks like rng kind of screwed you over and gave you those radio broadcasts instead. Even so, the game gets better about giving squad interactions in the sequels.

Ashley being racist or "speciest" or w/e you wanna call it, is rooted in her upbringing with her military father. I kinda get it, and it's one of her flaws. But that's why I kinda like her character design. When you play ME2 you'll see that racism between species is pretty common and it's FAR from a human-only way of thinking. It's realistic. Its okay to miss things when playing, thats what makes the eventual replay more magical! Its not like I'm missing out on anything crazy, maybe some items I already have. And its not like I didnt go and buy specter gear at the end anyways! And I already had millions in my wallet at this point in the game, so who cares if i convert a bunch of crap to omni-gel? Who's it hurting? Definitely not me. Stop letting how people play bug you so much! Its really not that serious! Im not TRYING to collect everything, or even DO everything so if i do miss something, thats okay! Not sure why how someone else plays effects you so much when it doesnt seem to majorly effect anyone else watching. But I hope ya find a different playthrough you can enjoy more than mine!

With your attitude, good. Go do your own playthrough instead of trashing Ace. It's his first playthrough. Let him do it his way.

This comment really means a lot. Thanks so much. I know I don't always do what a pro does, but I always figured people liked blind playthroughs because they're not perfect. Just feels crazy to me to get mad at someone playing a game for the first time. It's one thing if I was trashing the game for my own mistakes, but I haven't even done that at all, so I just don't get it. But thanks for making my day. I'm actually recording more right now so this was the power boost I needed!

@KingdomAce aye man, glad to help. I get to see different things and different viewpoints from watching these blind playthroughs. I appreciate that stuff. I wish I could play for the first time again. It's quite the experience, and you only get one. Keep doing you. Haters gonna hate 🤷‍♂️🤙

As long as you manage your expectations about the ending of ME3, I think you'll love it. Personally, I love the ending of ME3, but apparently a lot of people hate it. I think the main reason the ending is so hated by some people is that Mass Effect does a really good job of giving the player the illusion of choice, even though the game is actually very linear. The ending kind of strips away that illusion. For some people that was a big deal.

*You are not Saren *Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. *Theres a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign. *Reaper? a lable created by the Protheans to give voice to their destruction, in the end what they choose to call us is irrelevant. We simply are. *Organic life is nothing but genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades, you wither and die. We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything. *Confidence born of ignorance, the cycle cannot be broken *The patern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Organic civillizations rise evolve advance and at the apex of their glory, they are extinguished. The Protheans were not the first. They did not create the Citadel. They did not forge the Mass relays. They merely found them, the legacy of my kind. *Your civilization is based on the technology of the Mass relays, our technology. By using it your society develops along the paths we desire. We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it. *My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation, independent, free of all weakness. You cannot even grasp the nature of our existence. *We have no beginning, we have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilizations are eradicated and forgotten, we will endure. *We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom. *Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over. *Sovereign Mass Effect 1*

Save Ashley. Kaidan just evolves to be a bitter persson deeper in the story while Ashley just grows as a person!

He grows to be a more bitter person? What makes you think so? (I’m genuinely curious because that is not my perception of him at all.)

@@unlmtdsky12my thoughts exactly. He starts voicing his opinions more I think in the sequels but I don't remember bitterness.
