Head Games is just another poorly-disguised subsidiary of LJN a la Wisdom Tree and Phoenix Games.

Was there a phenomenon back then where games just wouldn't run well no matter how decent of a PC you had? I remember having all kinds of troubles.

I remember on one of my installs of Windows 98 circa 1999 the computer would freeze whenever I launched a game requiring DirectX (i.e. any 3D game). However, if I ran Monkey Island (DOS game) first then DirectX games would run fine afterwards. Windows was filled with random bugs like that. Most likely caused by conflicting drivers. But before high-speed Internet getting drivers in any other version than the one that came on the floppy/CD when you bought your hardware was a real pain. So some games just wouldn't run. It wasn't really about how powerful the PC was, it was more about quirky compability issues. By no fault of your own or the machine you owned. Sometimes they didn't run just because.

Well look at crysis when that came out, it absolutely destroyed pc's.. So I'm guessing a lot of those games were similar.

Crysis is a meme, on Ultra, yes, on Low a 2006 PC can play it easily. The things is, these super low budget games do not have graphics that would justify it.

Watching you play this game, I noticed that it looked oddly familiar. Then I realized where I had seen it before: It turns out that HeadGames recycled the snowboarding component of this game for "Tech Deck Snowboarding", which was released the following year. Everything including the controls, fonts, and snowboarders, was rehashed for that game. How lazy could they be?

Man I used to love Extreme Boards and Blades. Maybe because of the Mtn. Dew logo? I think one of the (too many) Head Games games I had came with a demo of Remington Top Shot, and I actually liked that too. I was a dumb, dumb, dumb kid.

Old PC games on CDs. See, this is a good thing to cover in a video. There are so many of them, most will be lost forever eventually due to CDs deteriorating and not being good enough to be uploaded somewhere. Make more!

hey, LGR, why don't you cover the Gutterball bowling games? used to play them a lot back in the day, just asked of you played it, or you at least, know about it

Of course there's no AI characters. Every AI character that went to apply for this job took one look at the game and went "Um... I'll just apply to be in GTA. Sure I can die, but it won't kill my career."

This is one of those awkward Windows 95 Voodoo card whatchamacallits. Did you try running it through Glide Wrapper? I had similar problems with Klingon Honor Guard that the wrapper fixed nicely. Also, as a side note, have you played Head Games' Quake II expansion, Juggernaut?

I remember playing a demo of this game. It was featured on a CD distributed with the PC Games CD magazine in late 1998 or early 1999. Being 9 years old at the time, I remember being amazed by it. Oh well, times change.

That's the original "Ys" by one of the very first Japanese RPG developers, Falcom. Ys is an action-RPG series that started off with a simple, but enjoyable run-into-the-enemies-until-they-explode combat system, and has steadily evolved over the years, never having lost that initial focus on fun. It's still going today, with Ys 8 likely coming out in the west next year. If nothing else, listen to some of the music from the series-it's legendary.

This was absolute gold and my new favorite LGR episode. Warning, do not eat or drink while watching this one...

I really liked the Serious Sam First Encounter episode can you do the Second Encounter ?

Another Head Games review! Wow, how many games did they release? I'm surprised on how bad these games are and how they ever got past QA testing. Also, I get to hear one of my favorite LGR running gags. "Practice MoOOoode."

Lazy Game Reviews Would it be worth doing a video on the rare DOS games that supported hardware acceleration or 16 bit color? I'm sure you have everything needed for high color, 3Dfx, S3D, Speedy3D, etc. x3

My family actually snowmobiled when I was growing up and ONLY bought Arctic Cat stuff. I think we owned everything advertised in the pro shop LOL.
