@Sarah Kelly I agree to some extent. Sometimes swearing adds a good touch of emotion or helps you convey what you need. People who swear every other word are pretty annoying, but a cuss every once in a while can really kind of help. Using one every so often can also help normalize it. You know what happens when words are normalized? They lose their power. At one point saying "heck" was pretty bad, but now nobody bats an eye. It's lost it's power. If words lose their power, there's no impact. Once there's no impact it will just be like a little exclamation, like "Jeepers!" that nobody really cares about. Also your friend got that from Reddit.

FYI Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson were self identified as trans vestites: they were gay guys who liked to cross dress. I'm 75 and I was in the Gay Liberation Front with Sylvia and Marsha P. I accompanied Sylvia to a presentation at NYU in which she defined Trans as trans sexual and trans vestites. Neither started the Stonewall riots. Sylvia was uptown at a party. Yes, two non-binary people can be considered heterosexual/homosexual, assuming their genders align that way. The problem is, most people think of gender as 2 or 3 unrelated points with no grey area on the scale, when it's more like a big color wheel/gradient scale with lots of room in between 'man' and 'woman' (as well as things that are nowhere near either one!) You can be a man, woman, nonbinary (which is a big umbrella), asexual, genderqueer, demi-boy, bigender, and on and on. Sexuality and gender aren't points that can be plotted on an x-y graph, so much as they're a huge spectrum that sometimes aligns well, and sometimes falls into weird, muddy, grey-blues. Many people like to imagine it as 'there's as many genders as there are humans.' If that sounds complicated, it's because it really is, but it's a great way of remembering that sexuality and gender cannot simply be limited to 'man,' 'woman,' and 'neither.' They're a complicated experience for which there aren't nearly enough labels, and largely even less understanding.

I agree. Fear is definitely being used as a weapon. The biggest issue that I see is that the uninformed public doesn't understand transition. I'm so tired of people claiming brainwashing, forcing children to change, and other scare tactics. They don't realize (at least in my state and others) that we are required to see a gender therapist and/or phycologist for however long it takes for them to conclude that the person has dysphoria. Which in my case was well over a year. An endocrinologist in my state will not see you without documents in hand. Next, they don't typically prescribe meds for children pre puberty. At puberty onset, most are encouraged to take blockers. Blockers do not make any changes. They just pause puberty for a while. Then later they are allowed cross ex horomones closer to 16ish (give or take). But the public has a misconception that kids are being abused by being pumped full of drugs. It's just plain fear and lack of education...

I had previous trauma that made me fear being attractive anyway to a straight male so I acted and dressed as boyish as possible. My friends in middle school kept pushing the idea that I’m trans, my close teacher also supported me in this choice. Online I saw so many people speaking of how healing it is. from ages 12-15 I made my own binders, i hated my body for being female, i would make cuts on my breasts and cry for long hours at night. I dont think my friends and teacher were trying to push their AGenDa on me, they wanted to help me. But when i grew older and came to terms with myself and stopped hating and blaming my body I started my healing. I’ve done irreversible changes to my body as a child and I’ve spoken to other women who went thru the same, we were lead to the wrong solution with no thought of the dangers. I do believe transitioning is right for some people but how many more kids have to go thru what I went thru (and even worse) for people to take this more seriously?!

@@mbloom2275 ...yeah but a) those words do not flow very easily out of the mouth, and b) it overcomplicates the issue. The common goal for all LGBTQ+ people is to be allowed to be who they want to be and sleep with who they want to without prosecution or persecution. Those goals apply whether you are cis, trans, gay, straight, bi, asexual, enby, etc. Separating attraction by genitalia ignores the fact that some trans people have genitalia that matches their birth sex, and some that matches their gender. If I were a transwoman who had bottom surgery, would I class as sexually male or female? My birth sex is still male, but functionally I would operate as a woman both sexually and socially. Also, it ignores the fact that most sexual attraction is related to the totality of someone's body. Like most straight women would not be attracted to trans women with penises, because they are attracted to a male body type - not just the penis. I am personally a transwoman with a penis who attracted to women, but I am not attracted to trans men even though they may have vaginas. It is not the genitalia that attracts me to women; it is the full nebulous package that is "womanhood" - the female body type, breasts, the hair, the clothes, etc., as well as the fact that I just find it easier to connect with women than men. A genital preference is fine, but that doesn't justify a whole sexuality of its own, in the same way that you don't call foot fetishists "footosexuals" or people who only like people with blonde hair "blondosexuals". Genitalia is a piece of someone's body that you are welcome to not like, but it is far less important in pure attraction than the totality of a person's appearance. I'm sure most straight men (if you ignore social pressures and ego) would rather go out with a trans woman than a trans man, because a trans woman is a woman, and overall is much closer to the average straight man's sexual desires than a trans man is.

She just didn't like the female stereotypes and assumed because she liked doing things that were considered "boyish". It was only then that I found out what trans was, and realized that it fit me and I'm not just a weird screw up. So no. I'm not trans because my girlfriend "failed to be the man in the relationship." The thing is the group probably would have stayed together if it wasn't for the militant people who constantly accuse others of being transphobic or they get offended over an everyday word or something. It's hard to sort out issues when you have people constantly complaining about minor things. So the lgb want to distance themselves from trans.. ok it's not great but what's stopping the trans community from making their own? Trans is now an umbrella term and literally anything can be trans now, so there is more than enough people to start a trans only group.. If there weren't so many people out to cancel others all the time, then I don't think this would have happened. A quick scroll through Twitter and I always see someone who says they are non binary ect who will attack people and lobby to get their fired for making a mistake or for a joke said fifteen years ago.. it's seems no matter what you do you can't win, and the attitude is very self indulgent, now everyone is playing top trumps of who has gone through the worst time. It was only a matter of time before the community turned on itself, I know quite a few activists who said this would happen. A group is just a group, does it really matter if you're included or not? Straight people aren't allowed into certain groups and that's fine apparently but trans people not being included into a group that is for sexual orientation and the world is ending.. you can't have everything that's just life and going through a struggle does not entitled you to be accepted into every single group, and now I'm seeing comments of people attacking the gay community.. when will it end

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, as a trans woman myself, genital preferences are valid. At the same time, trans people have been a part of this community since the beginning, since stonewall, and while it may be ‘confusing’ to you, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a legit, valid thing. The same could be said of how many straight people viewed gays and lesbians for so long: they found it confusing. Was it really? No, of course not, someone’s just gay/a lesbian, so be it. Same with being trans. It’s not anything ‘new’, as I said it’s been here since stonewall, and just because it’s confusing to someone who isn’t trans, doesn’t mean it’s then not valid or legit.

Sounds to me like the same LGBTQ internal prejudices we've had for years on steroids. I'm 58 years old and came out when in 1975, when I was 14. Back then, you'd see Lesbians, Bi, and Trans people in "Gay" bars and clubs. (I put Gay in quotes because they were just bars that had a majority of gay men as the clientele , but they weren't exclusive.) Somewhere around the mid to late 1980's Lesbians and Trans people started being not welcome to bars, and some clubs. And Bisexuals were pushed into non-existence. Seems like it's the next "phase" of the internal prejudices that is way to prevalent in the LGBTQ community....first is was Lesbians, then Bisexuals (who are constantly being referred to as "straight" if they're with a person of the opposite sex, and "gay" if they're with the same sex. There is no "Bi" in their frame of reference), and now it's Trans people. Why don't they just drop the L & B from LGBTQ, because that's what will happen if this crap continues. It saddens me deeply that it's gone this far. If we can't fight for each other, what good are we?

Everyone knows that trans people are struggling but that shouldn't mean that every single queer group must include trans people.. I've seen groups that are dedicated to only non binary people.. again straight people are ostracized but that's fine.. so why cant there be specific factions within the LGBT+ community? The word trans has been diluted so much it's losing its meaning. Now, trans can be almost everything and is extremely confusing and there are gatekeepers who go off constantly causing everything and everyone of being transphobic or a bigot and it's no wonder some people are splitting off into Their own group, they are being dragged into this conflict when all they want to do is provide support and guidance to each other but at the moment there is just people tearing each other down and fighting about who is the most repressed or who has had the harder time.

I think the lgb people are too extreme. And I’m very supportive of trans rights in general. However I did recently see an interview with a psychologist from the Tavistock who is whistle blowing against them because she thinks they are rushing children into hormone therapy, partly because of increased pressures on caseload. This does concern me because i am worried that we will see an increase in adults wanting to detransition having already had irreversible changes to their bodies such as infertility. I am a clinician (not working in gender) and the way we look at interventions is through risk assessment: what is the risk of intervening? What is the risk of not intervening? I wonder whether risk assessment of irreversible interventions for young trans people should be reviewed.

I think it is too soon to say how many people from the recent increase will have regrets or detransition. It may only be a small precentage now but we know that more than half of young children with disphoria will grow out of it. We definately need more studies. I personally know 3 people who have transistioned and hate themselves but are not willing to detransition because they think people will hate them and they know the physical surgies cannot be undone. They are counted as a success since they didn't detransition, so we don't know the full figures. Clearly, many trans people know exactly who they are and what they need but some people could benefit from more counseling and yes, risk assesment, before fully transitoning. I agree with Jammie though. He definately doesn't belong in the women's bathroom

As a young (member of the LGBTQ+ community and) ally of the trans community, I don't always know the full history of the struggle for rights. My brother is a gay guy, so I thought it was ok to come out to him as trans. He then told me I needed to take a DNA test “just to be sure”(probably confusing trans and intersex), saying that pan, ace, and bi aren’t actual LGBT and are just wanting to get attention, and telling stories about how “an entire club of butch lesbians suddenly decided they where trans overnight” and bs like that. It was shocking because I expected him to be supportive, he knows what its like to be discriminated against and hated.

I mean yes there are certain butch lesbians that might be getting told that they are trans, but no one can become trans, you either are or you’re not. And yes there are certain ‘trans activists’ that do push these ideologies and they suck yea - but there are gender clinics and counsellors for that reason - and if you want to change anything, imo, make the therapy part of transitioning longer and more intense and MANDATORY - and have quicker access to it.

i don’t think the t belongs in lgbt BUT it’s simply because trans and being gay or bi isn’t even remotely similar. it would be nice to have a trans only “group”..a place for themselves instead of being bunched together with us where it doesn’t match.

@@bird4816 so by race then? as the bone density of black cis women are infact overall denser than white men's, this was actually was used against black women participating against white women in the 1900s. also I know it wasn't about trans women specifically trans women have been in sports, losing in sports for decades, a myth thrown around about Ledecky was that she was a terrible swimmer before she transitioned but the scores --wherein she was compared to her Male colleagues-- were used after she started she was an amazing swimmer. not a bad man infiltrator. this also doesn't account for sports where physical abilities aren't as important like skateboarding, or in marathons where women's chances are higher than mens the longer it actually is.

That group deeply misunderstands why it is that mainstream society has had a problem with us, it always boils down to gender…gay people were oppressed, and are oppressed in many parts of the world, because they violate gender norms. It ain’t about the sex, because straight people have had gay sex for millennia (raping prisoners, raping conquered populations, receiving oral sex, etc), and never had an issue so long as they continued expressing their gender in ways that were deemed appropriate. The problem has always been feminine men, masculine women, and that puts us in the same space as transgender people, who are to mainstream society the ultimate violation of gender norms. We are absolutely part of the same umbrella, we are family, and as one goes so go the others. If they end up banning transgender people, drag queens, etc, they’re next coming for the rest of us.

I'm Australian, we have an odd arrangement of "Medicare for all" where doctors can choose to take medicare funding or not, so when I first sought therepy in a rural coal-mining town there was one medicare doctor who worked one tuesday a month from 1pm to 4pm, bulk-billed (free) with a 5 month waiting list, who would only reffer you to a one federally funded gender clinic 17 hours drive away in the capital city which didn't take Medicare and cost $570 per session, yet that clinic would only allow HRT after 18 months of constant monthly contact, if you missed a monthly appointment they scrubbed your records and forced you to get a new referal, 5 month weight and all... That's what it's like to be trans in rural Australia...

What the FUCK?? That's just wrong! Goddamn. For once, I'm glad the US is the way it is. The waits for everything, medical to psychological, are a lot shorter. The only thing is either they're expensive af or the insurance to pay for them is expensive af. My breast reduction was around $8,000 USD (~$10,113 AUD), insurance paid none of it since even though I was in an immense amount of pain, I had to go through SO MANY hoops just to get them to pay for A PART OF IT. And at that point I just wanted the pain to STOP, regardless of the cost. Ugh. Sorry, I'm venting again. I'm sorry to hear Australia is that way. I wish there was a way I could being you over here to the US temporarily so you could get everything you need/want to transition. Despite what transmeds usually say, you are trans enough despite not being able to transition atm, and you deserve to be gendered correctly, even if you don't 'pass' (fuck the thought that all trans ppl gotta pass, do what makes you happy! If that's blending in, do it! If that's standing out, do it!). Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You're worth it.
