I absolutely love my Alienware! Motion clarity on that is world better then any other lcd monitor I have owned but more importantly is the blacks being actually black vs the grey/light bleed which ruins dark games or games that have a day night cycle. Even 16:9 on the Alienware is AMAZING, due to the black bars being completely black I don’t notice it’s a 21:9 monitor. Simply the best in single player games and better in shooters then my last lg 2560x1440 165hz nano ips.

Both monitors are at 100 percent brightness in HDR mode. The Alienware is in HDR1000 mode. The LG is in Gamer 1 mode at 100 percent brightness. Both are set to 75 contrast. White level on both set to D6500 and tested with a colorimeter (Calibrite Display Pro).

Good comparison, was considering to get one of these 2 and got the AW3423DWF now. Holy that monitor is insane good, had the Samsung G7 240hz before, that already had pretty good picture quality, but this is on another level. Love the brightness and color accuracy and I just found out it even has an build in FPS counter that actually works (compared to RivaTuner OSD FPS)

IM seeing that as well seeing this comparison is making my decision to go with the LG 45 OLED much easier. people fail to realize just cause one screen can get brighter doesnt mean that the picture processing the image on screen is better. Sony XR processor is their TVs can test to this theory. The X90L is still a king in TV market and its an old LCD

Thanks for the comparison! I'm trying to decide which way I should go. Any chance of doing a CSGO comparison please? I bought the Neo G8 last year and the only reason I returned it was because the motion in CSGO had the stuttering or tracing when you move the screen. The only way to remove this smearing from the games was to turning the motion blur on but there is no option for this on CSGO and I actually don't like the motion blue effect on any other game either. its extremely obvious at 2:54, when he sweeps past the bright area in the background, its essentially completely dull and dimmed by the LG. At 3:00 when the red, glowing spartan runs across the screen, he's glowing white on the alienware, but more of a matte red on the LG because it can't get nearly as bright. Lastly at 3:12, the buttress going across both screens shows the color difference very well. the LG is a dull gray, whereas the alienware is a nice multitone red/gray/orange.

Camera Overexposure! Your eyes have a significantly wider dynamic range than cameras which can only ajust within a certain range. Either way you can only have one exposure for the entire image instead of splitting it up. The result is either one display looks much dimmer than the other one if there is a brightness difference like in this case where QD OLED is brighter, or like in this video example one looks "normal" while the other one looks "blown out" with loss of detail.

  • @bigbadslimee

Wasn't LG saying at CES that the 27 ad 45 inch monitors were using META panels with MLA? If so the difference shouldn't be so stark. Hopefully we don't have another panel lottery situation on our hounds as with the 42 inch oled and the EX panels.. Could be I also misunderstood the sales rep or they had no clue what they were talking about, maybe they all just use deuterium based panels (EX) or something. Also this is just a random comparison of course, no measurments were taken and the angles from the monitors to camera are different as well. The ambient lighting could influence glossy vs matte panels as well. Hard to draw any real conclusions tbh. Not that this is not a helpful vid btw, just kind of thinking out loud haha

I use both monitors for work as I work from home. I am use mostly the web browser and typical productivity apps 8-10 hours monday-friday. As long as you set your task bar to hide automatically and set your monitors to go to sleep within 5 minutes of being activity you should be fine. I would also only use SDR mode when doing productivity mode. I have both monitors calibrated to 120 nits which is more than bright enough for my office. The issue with burn in only happens when people have the monitor on 100 percent brightness and dont have their taskbar set to hide automatically as well as setting power options to shut the monitors off with 5 minutes of inactivity. I love the set-up and it allows me to have the best of both worlds in one package.

If you still deciding which one to get, go for DW model. It has better HDR in peak 1000 and can run 144Hz 10 bit colour. DWF can run only 100Hz 10 bit colour and broken HDR peak 1000. Dell is trying to fix the HDR peak 1000, but it snot fixed yet. However, what I see online HDR True Black is as about the same and most people prefer that mode for HDR content. You can set Custom Resolution for DWF and get 157Hz 10 bit colour. But that involves overclocking monitor pretty much, dunno much about effects that monitor has in long run after overclocks. I've got DWF but if I knew all this before I got the monitor i would go for DW, cause i mainly want better HDR experience. DW model is not much more expensive now anyway when you get them with discounts.

For $1100+ there is no reason to compromise and get something that is both bad for work, bad for text and bad for some games. The LG monitor isn't perfect but that is what I have now and it is good for HDR games specifically. For those wanting the LG. I had to return it. Yes, it is beautiful when playing HDR content and is super smooth. The problem is when playing SDR content. The colors don't look really that great because of how dim it is. Compared to my Aorus LED, SDR content on the LG looks kind of bland. Also, the Vivid mode is the brightest but it also also looks kind of too blue. The remote is nice but not having a joystick is criminal. I do wanna love it but just can't. Not being able to crank the brightness when I want to just improve the image is a deal breaker, not even using the Nvidia control panel can fix this. You won't believe how bad is on SDR till you have side by side with another good LED monitor.

I think the brightness issue is overblown. I have the monitor and by far the biggest issue is text clarity. The monitor gets plenty bright unless you play games with full sunlight hitting the screen or you have an LED light right above your screen. Unless you are used to burning your eyes out.

It has everything to do with personal taste. Many gamers crank their brightness up on their monitors but not all. I'm using my XL2546K right now at about 25 brightness, with minor daylight coming in. This is comfortable enough for me to use. It's exactly 1/4 of this monitor's total brightness, bringing me to about 74 nits at this brightness, give or take. I personally ordered the LG for a few reasons. The main reason being that QD-OLED is more susceptible to permanent burn-in than WOLED, due to how the pixels achieve white and the filtering going on, but also because this one was on sale for me and I already own an ultrawide, so I know many games don't support 21:9. Plus, 240hz > 175 hz any day. The anti-glare matte coating was absolutely not a dealbreaker for me either. I'm used to seeing monitors with a sort of grain on white and black, due to the nature of typical LCD panels. After seeing video comparisons of the LG to the AW3423DW, I found ultimately the coating really does help with small amounts of ambient light compared to the glossy finish, which reflects very easily. Of course this is mitigated by the brightness of the AW3423DW, but that makes it more likely to burn-in as well. The text fringing issue will likely be resolved with time across both different technologies.
