So I did a thing. I been washing my natural hair with shampoo and conditioner every single day for over a month. This video is my experience and results of how my hair feels, my hair growth and ultimately, my hair mindset.
Thanks for the wait, dolls. I know this topic has been highly requested! 😉

Yes! I’m 4c (waist length) I’ve been daily washing since late 2020. I cut my hair off to a twa four times. My hair is moisturized, super manageable, shiny, smells fresh & my routine is simplified. I couldn’t have ever imagined my hair behaving so well. Keep at it, your hair is flourishing!

I see I'm not the only one who has searched washing natural hair daily lol. I also wash my hair more than once a week. I'm trying to go for every two days but I really do like every day. I just want to share what I've benefited from washing more than once a week Curl texture improvement (my curls have a smoother surface. Kinda like the smoothness of straight hair but coily in pattern) Curl definition without products. I can now see my curl pattern without the need of using any curl products. Reduced tangles, breakage and shedding (I discovered I get this when I use hair products that have a lot of heavy oils and butters). Growth (Washing my hair more than once a week has reduced the overload of hair products.) I stopped putting oils in my hair because I cannot stand the feeling of oily hair anymore. (I don't think my hair ever liked oil products to beginning with.) I think this is what a lot of influencers mean by staying consistent. You don't need a fancy routine just a routine that is the easiest for you. Also.. I never understand why people comment "Do what works for you." Like she's forcing anyone to wash their hair daily. I'm glad yall have a conscious to let yourselves be known. But yes this does work well. BUT! I'm going to put my own experience in. If heavy products lines like Shea Moisture, TGIN, or Carol's Daughter break your hair off. Don't use them! I would recommend brand's like L'oreal, Aussie or Garnier Frutics. Some people's hair does not do well with the black natural hair brands because they're just too heavy. This includes shampoos and conditioners.

It doesn't have to be everyday. Evie probably does everyday right now because it's easier. As hair grows longer (because of water and shampooing often), she could transition to every 2 or 3 maybe 4 days. I will say though type 4 hair needs drenching water on scalp more than once a week. That's facts. Try it out. You don't always have to use shampoo. I use grease, so I do use shampoo. My hair is not dry because I replenish the dryness with the ultimate hydration... WATER. I add my leave in and seal with grease or a gel depends on style. Once my scalp tingles... usually 2 to 3 days later I shampoo again. Try it. Your hair may thank you.

I used to do this between 2013-2015 and my hair loved it and grew so quickly. I’d shampoo & condition, and use a leave in & grease then wear a cute fro, or sometimes attempt a wash & go but that was too much work. I always made sure that I was well put together like yourself. I must admit that I succumbed to criticism & stopped doing my hair like that because I felt the pressure to fit in as at the time I was in a long-term relationship with a non-black person and a lot of black people including family were calling me white etc. It wasn’t as popular as it is now for UK black women to date interracially and because of this I switched to wearing braids/faux locs. Washing was then reduced to 2/4 times per month. I now wash & DC weekly and apply leave in and grease. I was rather young at the time and now have grown to not listen to peoples opinions about me as I know what’s best for myself and lifestyle, I’m returning to daily washing and I’m so glad that other black woman are catching on, it truly is soft life. Thank you so much for sharing.

I watched a Mrs Mississippi YT video and saw that she washed her hair everyday so I figured I had nothing to lose. I have fine 4 type relaxed hair that I washed twice a week and deep conditioned for 30-60 minutes with heat. Once I started washing daily I went from needing a touch up every 3-3 1/2 months to needing it after only 1 1/2 months. Because the roots stay so soft I can wait longer for a touch up if I choose. My hair is highly porous and would dry within an hour, now it takes hours to dry. I use a low sudsing shampoo and only leave the conditioner in for 2-5 minutes. No more pre-pooing , no conditioning with heat for long periods of time. Everyday is a good hair day and everyone at work notices and comments with surprise how fast my hair is growing. My hair dresser is in shock. Plus no more clipping my ends I have not put a scissor to my head since starting this process. The water detangles my hair so I barely comb . I wish I knew this all of my life . I even experimented washing my hair 2x daily with each shower it worked fine but I only did it for a few days and may try again during the summer . I use a nickel size of shampoo and apply to my scalp , I use a dollar size coin of conditioner and a dime size of leave in which I really don’t need but like to use. Although my hair is relaxed I don’t even use products formulated for relaxed hair. I’ve been messing around with Shea Moisture using different ones every night. I plan to play around with different brands . My hair smells delicious every day, it swings and rest comfortably on my back but I always put it up as it moves and stick to my lip gloss, and gets stuck under the seat belt strap. I wore it in in a single loose braid to the side that sat on my shoulder and I was amazed to feel my heavy braid lay along my neck and easily sit on my collar bone .. This is crazy , who knew? It is near impossible to find Black women that wash daily . There are maybe 3 here on YT that have videos but never followed up with updates and the others are daily co-washers which I am not. Can’t wait to see your progress.

@@EvieAswiti Just got home from work and I just let my hair down from a bun preparing to wash it. While in the mirror marveling at the weight of the hair falling out of the bun down to my shoulders and back I heard your notification ding. Green Beauty here on YT gave some info that made this all make sense. She says that our strands stay under the scalp coiling before it pushes through the scalp almost like an ingrown hair in reverse . So if the scalp is kept free of dead skin , debris and product there is nothing to block the process. Also sebum is stimulated by the massage the scalp gets during the washing/conditioning process. My hair has incredible shine. No expensive or special products . Another hair person that I can’t hair person I can’t recall the name said as long as conditioner is used the hair will withstand the washing. If our scalps can withstand everything else it has been subjected to why would it suffer from washing? Our skin hasn’t dried out from bathing. Hair experts agree that type 4 hair needs *frequent* moisture which evidently comes from water. I think CLEANSING hair everyday is a more appropriate word than “washing”, as washing usually involves the use of foaming suds which strips hair of its natural oils. You can CLEANSE your hair everyday with water and conditioner, and weekly with a creamy non-foaming shampoo like Curlsmith Conditioning Wash.

So when I was natural three years ago, I did go through a period where I was washing my hair every three days I was in my Wash N’ Go phase where I was doing my best job at doing the wash and goes really good, and I noticed that when I would wash my hair and redo my wash and goals every three days they came out way better And my hair looked and felt nicer. The only reason why I stopped is because I saw a lot of not natural hair videos, stating that we should not be washing our hair no more than two weeks because our hair can dry out so I guess I wanted to “” follow the rules, but to be honest, washing my hair every three days while wearing a Wash N’ Go was really helping my hair.

The ONLY reason we were taught to not wash our hair daily is b/c of slavery. Most of us did not live in locations where water was accessible let alone any products catered to our hair type-the solution was to use petroleum (grease), bind it up and cover it to protect from the elements. This has literally been proven. We still are using the methods of when we were oppressed and that’s why natural hair manageability has us in a negative chokehold… I have 4b hair & it got so dry I thought my hair was 4c and was just destined to be uncooperative-when really my hair was just dry & untrained. Since I’ve been daily co-washing with actual conditioner, not the “cowash” they put on a label which is really just a moisturizing shampoo- for the past 4mos my curl pattern has literally become more uniformed to type 4b, my low porosity is now NORMAL & for the 1st time I don’t have to use combs or brushes & can just finger detangle! 4c hair is not “dry” with 0 curl pattern like we’ve been told, It can be VERY moisturized & VERY manageable & the coils are most certainly there!! My hair is longer & I have no problem drying my hair even in the winter. I use 3 products (conditioner, leave in, styler) & do my wash n go all in the shower 15-20min on a slow day, shake & go! I shampoo once a week & clarify once a month. I Haven’t had braids, a wig or weave in since! If you have tighter type 4 hair and it’s long you can definitely do this! It’s not as time consuming as you think.

I love it : soft hair , fresh scalp , tiny breakage and shedding. It takes me 40 min to 1h max to wash and style. My only issue is drying time , i started drying with my towel before styling and with blowdryer after styling so that i don't sleep with wet hair. My hairstyles are simple, mostly roll and tuck updos. I really recommend trying it before saying you can't ❤.

I just use water and blue magic in my hair, and twist in semi mini twists. When my hair is in twists I only wash 1x a month. But when my hair is down I wash every 2-3. People always looked at me like I was crazy and told me my hair won’t grow washing so often. It was mid back by that point (longer than it had ever been in my life). I’ve never understood the wash every six weeks (let alone months) trend. A clean scalp is definitely the foundation for having healthy hair. I chopped my hair off last April and wanted to maintain it short for a while but since it’s grown so much I’m starting a growth journey to see if I can get it past my longest length.

I 1st heard of this concept from the Anthony Dicky wash and go method. He says in the same way straight hairs wash daily to remove oil build up, curly coils should wash everyday to replenish moisture. I've been doing it since January with great results. My hair is your current length. It's more manageable and feels softer. Some days I'll just deep condition and rinse, most days I'll shampoo. One day this week I just rinsed with water and added no leave in or styler. It looked great, curls were totally defined! But it got a bit frizzy by the end of the day. Glad I found your channel! We need this message.

I wash my hair every 3 days. I used to wash once a week, but my hair thrives more on washing every 3 days. I make sure I only use water and conditioner, or a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Depending on how my hair feels. Once a month, I do a clarifying shampoo. With the sulphate free shampooing, I focus on my scalp and the last 2 minutes on my hair. With the clarifying shampoo, I focus on my hair, and the last two minutes on my scalp. I can tell it works for me, because I had bleach damage, and it got worse when I washed my hair about once a week. Now that I wash it more often, the breakage is much, much less. And my hair grows faster. Probably due to a cleaner scalp.

When I was working at goodwill a few years ago, I had no choice but to wash my hair daily at one point because if I didn’t, I would just feel gross. I was working with a lot of nasty clothes that people didn’t wash very well before donating and a lot of the bins we had to sort through were full of trash. Anyway, my hair was not drying out or anything and I actually really enjoyed washing my hair so often because I felt so good and clean. I like getting my hair wet first of all…and I love the feeling of my hair when it is refreshed. Plus, it seemed to thrive off of more water. I think as black people, we assume that our hair is not supposed to be manipulated too much, however, washing your hair in my opinion is not so much of a manipulation as it is a maintenance. Find a shampoo that doesn’t strip your hair of its moisture if you are worried about that. There’s tons of product lines to choose from!

This is really interesting... I've been super into the science of hair lately, and the biggest takeaway I've gotten from experts in the field and my own research is that the swelling and contracting of the hair shaft via heavy hygral saturation could potentially lead to the degradation of the cuticle. Pair this with frequent deep cleansing agents like *some* sulfates, and this could lead to a rough, "dry" tactile feeling to the hair. However, its important to note that an overwhelming majority of this research is done on straight hair. I was washing my hair frequently in the summer (every 4-6 days or so) and my hair felt...good. What I think these studies miss is that, yes, while the prolonged swelling of the hair shaft could jeopardize cuticle integrity (think of keep the hair wet for several hours), for curly/coily/and kinky hair where every bend is a weak point, *elasticity* is a very important component to hair health by increasing the tensile force required for the hair to break. Water is the only thing that can provide this, and while daily washing is not conducive to my lifestyle in particular, I'm curious to see how elasticity (water concentration in the hair cortex) and lubrication (an occlusive lipid layer sealing the cuticle i.e. oil, conditioner, butter, etc.) could increase the tensile strength of afro hair thus reducing breakage. I'm particularly interested in seeing just how much water must exist in the cortex to do this: 10%? 90%? Long winded way to say I'm very interested in how this experiment goes for you! 🥰

  • @onexonesie

    @onexonesie

    4 ай бұрын

The reason I don't believe this study is because our hair swells day in and day out from the moisture in the air to the steam from the shower. If constantly drenching our hair in moisture was bad, why do we have to moisturize our hair so much to keep it from drying out and breaking off? Our hair thrives on water. Not enough water creates splitting like sheet rock. Now take into account how water resistant most of our (black people) hair is, yet we go for days without properly opening our cuticles by a shampoo or higher ph surfactant to cleanse and open the cuticle to allow moisture in it makes sense that our hair has to be clean to become moisturized effectively. And I usually moisturize with low ph leave in conditioner (kinky curly knot today) and seal with grease.

  • @EvieAswiti

I’m gonna keep it going due to my hair being so happy. I’m not sure if that study included subjects who blow dry their hair and not leave it wet for so long. I use heat in my hair after washing it so it’s usually fully dry bc I don’t wanna air dry and wait. I’ll do a follow up video on products and of course another update around the summertime to see if this really is the bomb for my hair. Being the guinea pig will be fun 😆

Girlllll I'm saying! I used to suffer from SEVERELY dry hair and I seemingly tried everything! vm Once I started washing my hair daily with a clarifying shampoo and skip the rinse-out conditioner but put a low PH leave in conditioner (Kinky Curly Knot Today) right after I get out the thr shower to close the cuticle and I seal with my blue magic hair grease, my hair did a complete transformation! I can't stop touching my hair because it stays so soft all day long! I just think certain people's hair thrives when you keep it clean especially if you have fine strands but low porosity it means it's hard to stay moisturized unless you open the cuticle with a shampoo (high ph) to allow water in but you strands are fine so they get "gunky" very very easily that stops water from permeating the hair.

i agree girl… if we washed our scalps more often we’d have much healthier scalps and more growth. and constant water is great. i think the hair washing once a month is a myth because i really can’t wrap my head around the itchiness or smell from unwashed hair. it literally coincides with what weve seen happening in the conforming to straight hair standards for centuries. it makes so much sense now that we’re in a period of rebirth for black hair health and acceptance. we know better.

We definitely know better in 2024. Every other ethnicity washes their hair more frequently than us and look at their hair health. Makes me wonder if this one simple step is the key to opening up us to accept our hair in its natural state bc washing it often would mean we’d be forced to see our hair un-manipulated from hair that is 24/7 365 straightened, weaved, braided down for a wig, etc.

I think more than once a week if you workout consistently is definitely needed. I’m recently noticing this with my hair. Also letting hair dry before putting in buns or putting scarf on your hair

I wash my hair every other day per my dermatologist instructions due to a scalp condition. No hair regimen is a 'one size fits all.' everybody's scalp and hair reacts differently. Some people have to go longer in between washes. I think everyone needs to do what is right for them.

Ok!!!! I’ll try it! I have been washing weekly and then blowdrying my hair for the past few months. Last wash day I noticed my hair was so pretty with the curls but I was afraid to wear it cause I thought it would just dry out. But I’m going to try the 40 days with the exception of my birthday anniversary later this month, which I’ll wear a blow out. But I’m curious to see what happens. Also I would love to see a product video as well, I tend to get anxious when choosing products on my own 😂 thank you for the inspiration ❤

Thank you. A really nice video. When you said 'swimming', that brought back many memories of being a little girl. Swimming 2 - 3x a week week was fun and just wearing my hair in braided ponytails was easy. But as I got older, and pressing my hair regularly, swimming took a big backseat. I didn't think getting my hair pressed and swimming as often as I wanted, mixed very well. This video tells me I could have thought about it all differently. Again, thank you for sharing your 40 days. I might have to try a similar thing.😂😊❤

No hair type, straight or not(with individual exceptions) should wash their hair daily 😅 More frequently sure, but not daily The cons outweigh the pros because you send your hair on a never ending cycle of strip and moisture and it affects sebum production from your scalp. Also it makes sense for curlier hair to not wash daily compared to straighter hair because their sebum runs down their hair easily, but with curls and kinks, your sebum doesn’t flow as seemlessly. So all in all, straight or not, I don’t think daily hair washing is ever really a better idea than like weekly wash routines But do you at the end of the day. Whatever works for you

I’m triggered by this title 😩😩😩. Daily hair washing sounds like a daunting task for my type 4 tresses. However, I’m even more triggered by my crispy, dry hair that’s been breaking. It’s time for me to try something different to get a different result. Maybe I won’t do daily washes immediately, but I can start by greatly increasing my wash frequency. Maybe one of these days I’ll work my way up to daily washing as I get a good simplified routine down. I appreciate seeing the other side of the spectrum.

I have fine extremely tightly coiled and very very dense. I bleached it last year then decided to dye it black again. And then I got heat damage because of a silk press without heat protectant. I value health over length so I don’t hesitate to cut it sometimes just for the sake of change. Waist length has never been my goal but for those that do seek it, it’s an attainable goal because our hair grows no matter what we do. It’s the retention that is key if length is a goal. I would just caution you to be careful of using harsh products daily. That will be detrimental to health and length. Hope that answered your question. Good luck on your journey

Ooooh i ran in here sister! I totally agree with this, i was doing a 3-4x a week wash and go routine when i big chopped last year due to scalp issues and hair loss and i can definitely confirm that washing more often helped heal my scalp and hair. I’ve fallen off of my routine because i switched hairstyle for a bit but i cant wait to get back to this and even doing it every day! Idk if you ever mentioned if you happen to have fine hair? If so, would u mind telling me what products (especially stylers) you’ve been using lately? I’m also a shampoo, conditioner and 1! Styler only kind of gal lol. Loved the vid and u look amazing!

It’s been 18months post BC so my hair is much longer and more work so i’ve been slacking lol but you’re getting me there again!! And wow! No styler nothing? So after conditioner u just let it air dry and thats it? Also, is there any particular brush you use in the shower that you like? I’ve been using this wide tooth comb from Tangle Teezer and it detangles great but i feel like it leaves strands behind in my hair and a brush would fully get them out.

I noticed my hair growing a lot at that time so I’m not sure why I’ve been off and on about washing my hair more frequently since then . I normally wake up at 6pm for work. When I occasionally wash my hair in the morning (because I don't have time at night plus my neighbors can hear the blow dryer and my hair takes forever to dry) I have to wake up at 5am... since it takes me about an hour to wash and style my hair. The only time I washed daily or almost daily was when I was on a cruise. I had time and was swimming a lot so it was necessary. It wasn't a burden at all since it was vacation (which is why I don't understand vacation hair unless you're waking up at 6am on vacation too).

I personally washed my hair 3 to 4 times a week every other day because my hair needs to be hydrated and it stays hydrated that way if not, I will have dangerous and dry, scout dry air and a lot of breakage and that is how you retain length once you style, your hair and the style was not supposed to stay like that for a weekor two weeks or a month or six weeks or whatever people are trying to go for
