LeVar Burton is not only Mr. Reading Rainbow, but Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge. I love and respect these guys. He is the perfect host for a knowledge based game show. Best Regards.

What an absolutely wholesome human being. He’s got my vote for the full-time job.

No one ever brings up Captain Planet when they bring up Levar Burton, he was the opening narrator for the show and he played Kwame the leader of the Planeteers. Captain Planet lasted for 6 seasons which is a long time by cartoon standards in the 90s.

I grew up watching this man as a child! His mom was an English teacher and an AVID reader and reading in his house was MANDATORY! Jeopardy would be STUPID to not offer him the job full-time. This IS NOT a black/white thing, this is a best for the job thing. He is IT.

I tell people the exact thing. It’s not a diversity hire. This guy taught millions of kids to appreciate books and knowledge. And now those kids are on jeopardy now. It makes total sense.

I agree that he SHOULD be the natural choice for the permanent host position, but regardless of what a master story teller he is, I was surprised to see that he is just not a good match for hosting jeopardy. Many other hosts have done a faaar better job, some surprisingly well.

Months ago I saw a thumbnail of a person, too small to see who it was at a glance, and a title saying people were signing a petition, saying he would be perfect as a replacement for Alex. I saw it, got mad, thinking no one could replace Alex. Then I took a closer look at the picture and realized it was LeVar Burton and immediately agreed he would be perfect. haha

I cannot wait for LeVar to be named the Permanent Jeopardy Host….. He is gonna be amazing and Alex would definitely approve….

It’s possible that he will improve, but he was stiff and overrehearsed. He showed none of the relaxed humor that we expect from the Jeopardy host. At the moment, Jennings and Bialik lead the group.

Levar Burton has personality, intelligence, class, and talent. He also has good looks. He can represent the late Alex Trebek's legacy very well.

Still fine as wine!!! He is so smart and handsome, congrats LeVar for your new role as host of Jeopardy, for now...

I vote Levar Burton....My little girl now 25... learned the love of reading from me, but because of him. DAMN IT. Memories.... years later... pre-teen and teen years...go to Barnes and Noble on a Friday only for her to have finished two novels of Twilight or whatever in 2 to 3 days.....🙂

It’s really perfect job for LeVar Burton. Even going back to Star Trek. He could puke out all of that technobabble and make it sound like poetry. He has such a kind voice.

One of the finest person in entertainment. Purely deserves all the praise and opportunity offered to him. He gives so much and now it’s his turn to receive.

I used to watch Reading Rainbow that had Levar Burton in it as the host and i liked the show because he kept showing different books that kids read and i liked at the end he would always say I'll see you next time.

If Burton hosting Jeopardy I might actually watch it. Such a genuine kind soul.

I miss this man voice, face, and just over all his being. I'm so glad to see him. And I truly hope he stays with the show full time. He is such a great example of a wonderful human being. He always has this grace about him. That just draws you in. I hope we get to see different sides of him if given the offer for full time. And if he is willing hopefully we get to see more of him. He is definitely needed in this world 🌎

I've loved lavar burton since I was a child! Reading rainbow is the reason why my house looks like a library lol. I'll be glad to see him host jeopardy full time.

I smiled throughout this segment. I'm a fan of Mr. Burton. My whole family is. Here's hoping he becomes the permanent host of Jeopardy.

Him and mr rogers is on the same level of education and entertainment combined for children.. besides all the racism bs tv tries to put into our minds ..he had bridge the gap that no matter what race u are reading and education is important for all

he deserves every good thing in this world! Love Lavar!

Am I the only one who saw that LeVar was hosting Jeopardy this week and set myself still excited to hear his voice reading off the questions!!! Perfect host for this job!

His voice is my childhood.

There is no better candidate. I think Alex would be thrilled to see LeVar stepping in and I for one wish him the best of luck. My childhood and adulthood was enriched with this mans presence and intelligence and ability to impart that feeling to others. I am really pulling for him.

I totally agree that he is a delightful, kind, lovely, and eloquent story teller and I have been rooting for him and awaiting his hosting turn, but I must say that he is better in all his other roles and as much as he wants this and I wanted it for him, it seems hosting a game show is just not a natural fit. Hope he gets to be on TV doing something that's inherently organic, like all of his other roles have been

Jeopardy! Next Generation - Levar Burton has made a huge impact on my life from encouraging me to read voraciously and expanding my vocabulary on reading rainbow to providing me a mentor/hero to look up to as an engineer on Star Trek. I am now an engineer, have read hundreds of books, written two of my own books, and have a never give up attitude. I think if Levar was given the permanent job on Jeopardy! he would make the role HIS OWN and bring new light to the program.

Levar is a really good host to put in place he has so much wisdom, and knowledge to bring to the table even to begin with, and he is beloved by so many people even though we don't see him as often he still is a wonderful person to take over, and let it be a show hosted with professionalism, and experience. He wants the job, so hey give it to him many want to see him there!!

He has done a good job. There was one flub in judging on one answer because of time constrictions. He learned from that misstep and has improved.

I love him, but something is still off and as much as I appreciate people who keep saying let;s give him another chance, he'll get better, it's obvious that he is just not the right fit for this job. He is an amazing story teller, but a host for this particular venue is just not a good fit as there were faaar better guest hosts, already; some surprisingly good

In my humble opinion, there were some poor performances from people I had high hopes for and there were surprisingly good performances from people I was not expecting to do well. Before watching these guest hosts, my hunch picks were for Ken Jennings, Levar Burton, Buzzy Cohen, and Brad. Brad, for some reason didn't guest host, Ken did a wonderful job, but could use a voice/speech coach, and Levar Burton, as fantastic as he is in everything else sounded and acted very strange as a game show host. Hosts who shocked me by being great were Aaron Rogers (he could use a voice coach too), Anderson Cooper, George Stephenopoulis, and most surprisingly impressive was Mike Richards, whom I had never heard of and was skeptical of, but who did a nearly perfect job. In my view, middle of the range were Bill Whitaker (whom I adore in 60 minutes), Savanah Guthrie, Mayim Bialik, Sanjay Gupta, Buzzy Cohen, Dr. Oz (whom I dislike, but he admittedly did very well). So, based on performance as a game show host for Jeopardy, I will be happy with Ken Jennings, Aaron Rogers, Mike Richards, Anderson Cooper, George S. I will be okay with the middle performers, Like Savanah Guthrie, Bill Whitaker, Buzzy, Gupta, and Bialik, but I will be truly disappointed with a permanent Jeopardy host gig if it goes to any of the three really awkward and fake-happy-act hosts who were: Katie Couric, Levar Burton, and Robin Roberts. I'd love to know your choices, if you don't mind sharing...

Jeopardy needs a host with an even tone. LeVar was all over the place. He shouted, stressed the wrong words when delivering clues and just seemed too over the top.

Crimson Pride - You're right. Burton was force-fit promoted by an organized campaign. He's an acceptable actor - not a TV personality or game show host. His low ratings proved it.

Wife as makeup artist? This man is a legend and thought about the whole life journey and how to end the game successfully! Hard to imagine this man survived Hollywood; that's the good LORD right there. Thank you LeVar for the example you have set and continue to set!

I feel he was the voice of a generation. Half the books i read was because of reading rainbow 🌈. He was one of the reasons i loved star trek

I agree that he was awkward and as much as I was rooting for him and love him in all other capacities, and as much as I was hoping he'd improve, he is still awkward and it still doesn't feel right. I mean they can try to force him in there, but they've had other very natural guest hosts; some even very unexpectedly good.

He is not a good fit for this role. This would've been like casting him as Picard instead of Geordi. Sure, could've pulled it off in his own way, but far from ideal.

I never was a big fan of Jeopardy but if LeVar Burton gets the job of the new host I will definitely be watching!

Levar has too many achievements under his belt for this to be any kind of sore or blemish. I was thinking about Star Trek and Reading Rainbow and totally forgot he was in the most iconic scene of Roots.

That would be so neat if he got the permanent hosting job because I grew up on Lavar Burton and I love Reading Rainbow Roots as well as Star Trek the Next Generation

The Olympics were not the reason for Burton's low ratings. The Jeopardy audience is not the Olympics audience or Burton's for that matter.

From Roots to Reading Rainbow to next-generation this man has been in my life. I can see that his wife had a heavy hand in it. A good woman will help a good man

I happened to be at someone's house recently, they had Jeopardy on, and apparently Ken Jennings is the host. That was very confusing, because I was in a different room, and couldn't understand why a contestant was giving the answers. I love Levar and Reading Rainbow, but I think the main reason they didn't choose him was the fact that the people who still watch Jeopardy, and the advertisements accompanying it, are a different demographic from Reading Rainbow and Levar Burton fans in general. As a result, they probably had a slight increase in viewers when he was on, but not as much as other hosts. For example, I didn't watch the show regularly before him, and I wouldn't after either, since I don't watch broadcast television, and the same is probably true for many other Levar fans. More importantly, the regular viewing demographic were very outspoken they they didn't want Levar for various reasons, mostly personality it seems, and I suspect they may have actually caused viewership to go down when he was on, because they all believed he was the wrong guy for the job. Personally, I would have preferred him. Television choices are usually all about advertising and money, and the show made the choice that they believed was best for that.
