I brought my 1710L In Malacca, Malaysia in 1967, it's still going strong. I have only had to change a valve or two over time. Great machine.

Nice work, and good video - no silly wavering the camera about. A few things I noticed ... It's weight, by the way you had to drag it around. I was surprised that it had speakers from the side panels. And, no tape lifter? Yikes, more tape head wear? All that said, a classic. Thanks for the uploading of this video!

You need to thread it on the front of the pin to the right of the record/playback head so it lifts the tape off the heeds during FF & RW to avoid the high speed playback noise & excessive head wear.

I'm impressed with how resilient it is and for 60-year-old machine how easily it came back to life , I'm not 100% happy with how I captured the audio from it as I used to line out , but I've got a few more to do including an Akai M8 and a few tape decks and turntables ,

hi had some mono 4 tracks in the past that have sound better than this model back in the days reel to reel decks were not easy to get the carboot sales got the decks out over the years 3 head decks were the best i could get the rubber parts good hard over time big fan of liner high speed video decks (betacam)

Still a bit too much flutter on your 1Khz test signal for my liking.

I don't understand how it can play the music on "record" as you set it....but no tapes on board!!! How can it work without tapes?

My audio input is connected to the line and the audio recorder is connected to the line out when you put it into record, it goes into what is known as monitor mode, so it puts the audio back out so you’re able to hear it before you record

@@dark1stu Thats clever. I had to chew that lot for a time to understand it. I am new to recording. I have just bought exactly the same model yesterday from ebay together with 22 tapes and a good mic. So excited. How would I be able to contact you with like minded interest and lots of stupid questions? That of course if you dont mind. Thanks a lot for your reply. You know what you are doing...I don't......yet!! Peter

You have loaded the tape incorrectly. Check the path leading to the right reel.
