A Sony reel to reel tape recorder has not been used for a long time. I tried plugging it in but it doesn't work...
SONY TC-357A first released in 1969, a tape coder developed as a high-end machine for music recording.
The TC-357A is a two-track mono system, as a model for domestic within Japan.
I hope you like my work and the video.
Sorry for my bad English, it's not my language.
Thanks for watching, don't forget to like and subscribe!

There's something so satisfying about watching these restorations. Maybe a subconscious hope that I also may be restored.

I was in the ER last night and watched this while receiving 10 stitches in my foot. Very soothing to watch 10/10 thank you!
The surgeon who breathed new life. Amazing work. And even more amazing Japanese quality of components used that last a life time. 👍👍
I used to use these 4 track mono Sony machines a lot when I was in high school . They were pretty awesome sounding then. I'd love to have one again
My grandpa had the Sony TC-1 and I remember the joy it brought him every time he brought it out to demonstrate its features. He purchased it in Montreal back in the 50's! By the way, what a wonderful restoration!!!!
Some of these older machines are more restorable than the newer ones. A lovely job, well done.

If tape recorders like this one were still being manufactured today, the case would have been made out of cheap plastic and the gears, pulley wheels and everything else would have been made out of plastic as well, or cheap, thin metal that would start showing signs of fatigue quickly. Such recorders wouldn't last very long and their replacements would offer only incremental improvements.

Back then they manufactured a product with passion and pride. Today they do, till you are forced to replace the unit. A modus operandi started by Apple.

@@grandmasterjo1 I know I spent my life in the Hi-Fi trade and I would only buy things that could be repaired.
It is beautiful giving life again to old objects. It has a meaning, like if we humans should dig into failed feelings , thoughts and rebuild ourselves
Well done, and thank you very much for no brain damaging music in your Video!
That was an amazing restoration. I would have thought it was a lost cause.
Really enjoyed this restoration project. I enjoyed the sound of the operations you performed. The music at the was just right. Thanks for the video.
What a fantastic piece of Sony history. Well done you did a beautiful job.
Sweet restore!
Fantastic, it's, remarkable to know and remember how to assemble each piece and put it back again to its right place in the case of recorder sony . . wow !
,very good job my dad always used scotch tapes this was 1970s
I have a tc 357-4 model. Remember the good old days when it was extensively used. Today rubber parts have perished with no alternate source so it's more of a museum piece
I loved this restoration video, I used to have a Sony like this one. I miss it a lot
I really like these saved objects, very beautiful!
Well done, really like how you did not restore this unit to a perfect state. Instead, you did a functional restoration and you did it well. Bravo👏 and I look forward to your next restoration.

I love these little Sony reel to reel units. Good job on replacing the motor cap, as they are a common failure with these units. There a couple of other prone suspects too in the motor and power supply, they are 2 Sony made components in an orange package, which is a capacitor and resistor in series, and they normally fail. Normally a 120ohm and .033 capacitor. They are easy to modify and identifyable on a schematic that you can make yourself. If your machine starts dragging and running slow, including FF and RW, those two components are the next to go.

Ah, so this must be the older brother of the Sony TC??? I had as a teenager, which my dad passed along to me. These things were built incredibly solidly - great restoration!
Beau sauvetage !! Bravo !!
No doubt that it's a great video of restoration . Am always surprised about the workmanship and the quality of the components they used at that time , that's why old is gold. Keep working on vintage equipments , you can get lots of satisfaction from your work. All the best......
Very nice restoration of a 50+year old Sony open reel tape recorder,,,I guess those large capacitors in the power supply needed replacing,,,along with the broken light globe too. And freed up the idler pulleys and reel drive hubs,,,lubricated mechanism and restored belt with belt grip formula? Not to mention a beautiful job in cleaning the tape heads, guides,, and pinch roller,,,and how well the case cabinet cover came up after giving it a soapy wash,,,as it looks like a new machine,,,compared to the state it was in when u first got it,,,,it looked like a wreck of rusted parts in the beginning of the video. Absolutely love seeing restored old vintage open reel tape machines,,,to like new,,,showroom condition!
Having seen so many palpably fake Asian restoration videos, it's a joy to witness the genuine thing - and so very well undertaken; thank you.

Cool restoration, here's my like, comment and subscription
Fantastic.
The trick is to make it dirty and look old, then undo what you did….then you’re halfway your “restoration “…..

Many of these apparent restorations start with a machine that has clearly been made to look worse than it is. That may have been the case here. The area under the head cover looked a lot cleaner than the rest of the outside of the recorder, and the base was pretty clean too.

Конечно это SONY золотого века! Но на мой взгляд стоили при реставрации заменить Головку, пассики и ролики, проверить все электролиты и переменные резисторы.

Perhaps he didn't have to worry as all this 'restoration' was a cleaning of a perfect working example of a machine which you had 'dirtied up' for the video !
Great Work ; U Gave a new Life to The Taperecorder. ; Fabulous
Nice
好厲害
Механизм точно такой же как у нас были на то время, ну может покачественнее сделано.
This tape recorder did not need to be restored, only cleaned.
I had a load of Grundig ones like this one, All New In the Box's, from the 60's, They were the ones that the schools used. There was a small fire In the local council warehouse, and everything had to be scrapped, due to Smoke damage. I had Garrard Lab SP25's and 35 Turntables and Tons of spares for them as well. There were BASF Tapes In the Plastic Cartridges for the machines , still sealed. Loads of other stuff like Projectors and Screens, Amps, Speakers and other things as well. Had to leave the lot when the Council Room Tax forced Me out of My home to a Flat, surrounded by Drunks and Junkies. England Is such a Lovely place, If Your Not a Local that Is.

You're referring to a cut in welfare spending which was introduced by a Conservative government in 2013. Don't blame the majority of the British people who didn't elect it.
I have the exact same machine perfect condition but I need an idler so it will play back at proper speed where did you get the idlers for it
Супер техника!!!!!!
I think I would have wanted to get that PAT tested before plugging it in. Where had it been stored to get into that state? Impressive restoration.
nice
Not everyone who comes before a terrible result should do this job.

Very good restoration. That can of sonax rubber rejuvenator you likely got it from lazada? I used to use that until i was able to buy printer roller restorer on Shopee. The rumbling noise is from the motor speed control or is it in the amplifier circuit?
With good service, this tape recorder can be bequeathed to grandchildren! And he will please the grandchildren. Not like modern tape recorders, when repair is not advisable because of its cost. And you have to throw out the whole tape recorder. And this one is nice to repair, because it was made by people and for people!
