I've been using one of these to generate audio for my AM radio AI upscale project. The fact that the range is so short is actually somewhat helpful for testing different kinds/degrees of interference.

Roberts, along with Hacker and Grundig, were regarded as the finest portable radios back then, so not surprising that it sounds so good. Obviously built to last too. Unlike anything you can buy now.

My argument to them is that it was NOT designed to be a travel speaker, that this was an obvious flaw. Someone is going to drop it. That's what happens when you travel, so it kindof exposes a lack of foresight of the designers. They could care less, of course.

This video saved my life. I’ve had the vac since 2017 or 2018, use it all the time. But at the jobsite I’m currently at, the home owners have two German shepards and I’ve been sanding oak stair treads. So wicked fine dust and dog hair. Vac wasn’t happy. Took apart and stuck a coat hanger down each tine. Purrs like a kitten now.

Nice video... I'm trying to stick Windows on one... any idea which drivers are the newest yet stable? Using the boot camp version seems to work, but they are very old... but the latest AMD drivers caused constant crashing... I know there are several version in between Apple's last bootcamp version and the last AMD... but it would be nice to know which one to use. I've already wasted hours restoring it 2 different times after killing it with various newer drivers.

Nice work, and good video - no silly wavering the camera about. A few things I noticed ... It's weight, by the way you had to drag it around. I was surprised that it had speakers from the side panels. And, no tape lifter? Yikes, more tape head wear? All that said, a classic. Thanks for the uploading of this video!

Colonel Muppet.. I had the same situation. Stripped it down, cleaned it, nothing. No lights nothing. Replaced the power supply ($50). Now I have the lights back but it’s still not booting. Debating whether to try new logic board or if that would just be a further waste of doe. Anyway, just an FYI for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the video. I just got one, came with 64GB, a 12 core cpu, and a700 gpus. It has a 1 TB WD green drive in it that had Monteray installed. I put a drive in it that had Windows 11 that I took out of another computer and it booted right up and loaded all the proper dirvers as soon as it updated. I notice occassional graphics studder when playing games and it makes me wonder if it's getting hot somewhere but I took the top fan off and it all looks very clean inside, but maybe it needs new paste or something. I want to watch a few more videos before I try to repaste it. Your video is the best one I've seen so far.

Update May 28/2024. Bad take-up reel. Cleaned the friction from bottom side , a white nylon part with a spring. Works fine now. Yet owner of a TC-K1A , TC-K2A, TC-K4, TC-K5, TC-K6 and very soon an TC-229SD. Former text : Bought a few months ago the same Sony TC 121. Still working. I'm collecting all the audio devices my dad and I bought in the '60 >'80. Fixed lately a Sony TC-K5. Own 2 TC-K6. Also own Fisher, Graetz and Pioneer. Great to see this video. Update Jan 28, 2024. Own a second 2nd hand TC 121. At playback the tape is gonna drift to the outside. Take-up reel has torque enough, pinchroller is a little bit rounded. No high freq at playback. Maybe audiohead must be adjusted again. Someone srewed this wonderful cassetterecorder :(

You need to thread it on the front of the pin to the right of the record/playback head so it lifts the tape off the heeds during FF & RW to avoid the high speed playback noise & excessive head wear.
