Let's try again, Cricket... Why I always breed more than one doe (homesteading with rabbits)

I'm sorry for your loss! I've had a first timer eat her whole litter. Second time we had 8 and a runt and she's done fine! Thanks for the mint tip!
Thank you for the pictures and explanation about the ideal size and shape! That's really helpful for beginners like me. ☺️
I never knew rabbits could be broken down like this. Amazing
The pictures with the corrections over them were great! Sorry about the luck with crickets first litter, hopefully she has better luck next time. I’m excited to breed Ember in June!

I can't wait to see how she does for you! Ember inherited Onyx's body type :)
My kids got two “girl bunnies” on Christmas Eve and then three days ago we realized one must not of been a girl because we had babies. She had a litter of four but one died but the three other ones are doing really good. The boy one I put into another cage and he just got fixed on Thursday because I am not a breeder and I do not want more bunnies.
Really liked the parts about what to look for in body shape, very helpful for us newer people, thanks so much!

Wow very cute 🥰
That’s too bad. You should make a video where you decide which kits to keep I think that would be cool.

I know you probably don't care, but I adopted two bunnies yesterday!

Awesome! :)
My neighbors got to hear me yelling at my dog, who has an insurmountable prey drive, for chasing our escape artist rabbit. I allow the rabbits to run around inside my house, individually, specifically so I can protect them from the weiner dog. They don't need protection from the big dog, he's terrified of them.

Love the video! The body conformation part is really helpful for someone starting in Silver Foxes I'll be buying some Persevere merch real soon!

Thank you! So glad I could help :)
I had an issue this week where my first time mom couldn't pass any of the kits. At first I just thought I had caught her at the begining of labor. I kept checking on her but she couldn't progress or pass anything. I ended up having to cull her because she was suffering. My other experienced mom had her kits the next day and thank goodness no issues because I only breed two does at a time.

I'm so sorry that happened to you :( I have actually experienced the exact same thing... it is heartbreaking. I'm so glad your second doe delivered without issues though :)

Love the videos. My kids are starting into raising rabbits and 4H. Your videos have been so informative, thanks so much for taking the time to do what you do! Now to find some quality rabbits like you’ve got!

Thank you so much! So glad to help you and your kids. 4-H is such a great program :)
Your chickens are so beautiful
My first time doe (first time for me as a bunny breeder) overgroomed her litter, chewing the ear off of one and nicking the other kits ear so it looks like he/she has been in a scuffle. From all I've heard from other breeders the overgrooming thing happens. It's not maliciousness, it's just mom buns being overzealous. The one-eared kit is otherwise fine, it just looks lopsided. :)

Yep it can be common, especially with first time moms! Half of this kit’s toe fell off eventually. Now he has a white nub lol 😂
I'm more worried about litter size than size and build. I have 1 doe that has only 2 live bunnies each time. But doe #2 had 8 babies on her first litter. So I'm giving my doe#1 another shot then it's off to another owner.

In the past, I have experienced really big litter sizes with less than ideal grow rates. As I have been improving my herd, I have seen a shift in the kits and experienced faster grow rates and more meat on the table at a younger age. It has been critical in my program to assess body type! And since I am preserving two heritage breeds, I am proud to strive for that Standard of Perfection :) Good luck with your does!
How do you know your rabbits are bored? Your videos are so helpful❤️
Will paint fumes harm babies and momma ?
Poor Cricket but great video! Thank you for sharing all the aspects of raising rabbits 💜 I have officially watched all your videos as of today lol Does Jamison create music for your channel? He absolutely should do a theme song for you!
@TealStoneHomestead
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! ❤️ Jamison does not create all the music unfortunately. He has done I think one for me, but with videos I’m always going for a certain mood and I’m certain he does not have the time (yet) to create music for each video. A theme song is actually a really good idea! I’ll keep that in mind 😊
Great video showcases, the type aspects as well as management of the does, Is that a term a judge uses at a show to describe, a great animal , meatbrick? Lol made me laugh. Thanks again and keep at it. Would love some of your bucks genetics, stay safe

Yes haha, being a meat brick is a good thing!! Onyx is helping me to get that thickness throughout my herd. Sprig is helping to give us more depth 😊

@@TealStoneHomestead You have a sound breeding plan gotta admit watching your channel, convinced me to get Silver foxes, white rabbits are boring I thought, then found out there are white silver foxes, stay safe, see your on the FB page, please keep posting on there also, good luck with your bees also.
You make all of this look So easy. I’m considering raising meat rabbits, but where do you buy them? If I start with one buck and one doe- how much room or how many more cages do I need for the litters?
Just Subscribed, Please what do I give to a COUGHING Rabbit 🐰🌼💕

So sad😭😢😭😢😭😢😭😢😭😢😭😢😭😢
I bred rabbits many years ago and I experienced does chewing off all the kits feet. I did not know why and still do not.

Some does "overclean" their kits... I've never experienced a doe chewing off ALL the feet, I'm sorry that happened to you. Rabbits sometimes do things we don't understand :(
Was Cricket successful birthing and mothering the 3rd time around?
How do you catch your rabbits😂

I have a couple that are difficult, but most of them are pretty chill since I handle them from birth :)
@s4ta440

The breeder we got these guys from didn’t really handle them. They’ve gotten so friendly since I’ve been handling them every day, but they can be hard to catch sometimes. I’m glad I’m not alone though😂 sometimes I feel like they’re little kids on the playground not wanting to leave.
@wo8818

@@s4ta440 I've got that same problem. Petting is fine in the cage and when you have some food, but when there is room to run around, they don't want me to touch them, they just want to stay there. Also, they hate being picked up (and I don't know what to do about it without making them fear my hands).

Do not use a heat lamp.
I build my doe cages much larger than the bucks but even the bucks get a 3'×3' cage.

Is it Normal for a Rabbit to give birth to just one kit..??
@Heather-xm9ul
2 жыл бұрын
Not really, rabbits have litters more than single babies.. Singletons don't do very well. One of my does just had a singleton on Friday, and it looked like it was about two weeks old. Since it was by itself, it got too cold, and we found it too late to save it. Kits do much better when they have siblings to help keep them warm.
Funny but not funny story, I tried to join the Silver Fox Rabbit Breeders group on FB and was blocked! I have no idea what I did 🤔
