I am a french old timer. In the seventies, wen I was an expat in Abidjan, Côte-d’Ivoire, West-Africa, I saw huge snails about 1 kg/2 pounds in a traditional african market. Ivorian "mamans" used to sell them alive, a dozen in a bucket. I ate those huge snails in a traditional african restaurant with "attiéké" (a kind of manioc semola) and a thick spiced sauce, very very hot sauce west-african style. I liked the meal ... The beer was ivorian, the music was congolese, happy seventies in West-Africa... A young white man in his twenties could walk easily in a traditional african market without any problem, the ivorian simple people used to be very kind and always smiling and kidding with "le jeune blanc".

Violette, respectfully, mind your own business, no need to bring such negativity and self flogging
I've lived for many years in many different parts of the world, and if there's one thing I've learnt, it's that 90 % of the time, people will treat you the way you treat them. As long as you show respect and use common sense, you'll be all right everywhere. The fact that many people have been nice to you just shows that you are a nice, positive person yourself, and it will be a big help no matter where you go :)

That’s not true though, you sometimes find yourself surrounded by the wrong people no matter how well you treat them. As a English native, I grew up in France after the age of five, and they made fun of my french and who I am as a person because it wasn’t perfect because I was English, even when I was nothing but friendly to them.

I was a bit apprehensive as well but it really does depend on the location and individuals. Some people have definitely shown their not so nice parts even in the small towns but that’s not the main narrative. Paris is different I’ve also heard😂😂

That's not true at all. You should come in my country before to judge it. I'm in contact with a lot of Anglophone people and they often tell me how French are nice and helping even if there is a langage barrier. They can live in France not knowing a single word of french fir years, there will be always someone making the free effort to help them. But, if you cross some lines you will told off. Politeness and basic manners (hi, please, thank you, bye) are something here. It is the way it works in France. Come here, you will understand.

The rude thing apply to every single megacity: People go to Paris expecting Emily in Paris but it's like going to New York and expecting to see nobody working, no crimes, no trash, just people drinking coffee at the terrace. The last one is def a reality, so are the others ones.

yeah - french bashing is a thing ever since France vetoed the US from invading Irak, on fox news there was a show in which they would spread misinformation about France, have banners that gave away phone numbers of french delegates and said to send them hateful messages and the host would talk shit about the french for the whole show. it lasted years and it's still here now sadly
It's refreshing to hear something different that the usual clichés about us being rude. Thank you for that, we're glad you're among us and I hope you keep enjoying our country. Be well friend !

Hey! Yeah to be honest it has been a great experience and a good way to enter adulthood far from home. I hope to be back some day. Thanks for watching 😊✨
People will treat you the way you treat them, I agree! As a well traveled Frenchman, I never encountered rude people in Paris nor in NYC where I used to live for several years and both Parisians & NYorkers don’t have the best reputation.. It is all about how you approach people. A "hello" and a smile usually get a hello and a smile in return But I have to say Chinese people and some Eastern Europeans like Estonians are not the friendliest people out there at least on the surface and I will put it down to education or quite simply to human relationships with strangers
the part about people being nice is so true, especially when asking for directions like guys will forget where they are going and take you to the place you are looking for

Very Nice vidéo indeed. I must said you have not chosen the ugliest city... historical center of Carcassonne (that i have never visited) has an outstanding architecture. Also People in province are cooler than in Paris where they always seems to be in the hurry. Regarding your fera on how you would be accepted as a Black person, i would say that because of its history, with colony France strategy for foreigner is intégration, trying to avoid community, so that by the time and génération you become french despite your origin, color or religion, but because you adhere to french values that made France what it is. Unfortunately extrême right is also becoming stronger and stronger, so in some case you may find racist People. Hope you continue to enjoy your life in France

@@NinjaTutel360 Left wing scarier than far right ? In France ? You must be kidding. We are lucky here to have a real left wing, even if we don't like politics. It's the neoliberals (Macron) and the far right (Le Pen, Zemmour) who are terrifying.. especially when you see that even the current (neoliberal) government is more and more repressive and almost xenophobic now.
as french citizen i can say that u felt that great is beacause u didn't stay in paris, paris nowaday became so much self-centred, even people are like that, especially with strangers that don't even try to respect the calm and trying to speak even few word (like bonjour merci = hello thanks) otherwise in countryside or when u go out the main city ppl are very kind and welcoming. As a French who moved out of the country, you found a really good place, because as you come closer to Paris the delay in bus and people being on time or the "no rush" because people value lunchtime isn't true, and certainly wasn't true at all when I was still living in France. I was raised as a lot of french people with the idea that someone who is always late can't be trusted with important things. It means we are polite guests who TRY to use the languge in these peoples home. If were good guests, they will be good hosts." And i take that everywhere. If im not in my home, aka countey, i always try to learn some key phrases in the language, i alwags ASK waiters if they have the time to help me order in their language. The more south you get, the more people aren't honest and only respect the law because police are here. Look at the magreb, look at mafia in south italy, the more corrupt state in europe are greece. So if the appiontment is at ten, il leave my house at ten and send a text to say to my friend "I am on the suburb !". Yes I lie, they lie too ^^ We always have at least ten minutes last ^^

Haha this is the exact same thing we do in Nairobi!😂😂
I want to say about "thing 1" that: 1) at lunch many colleagues keep talking about work, it can be annoying, and 2) while taking a nap is socially accepted, it's never easy to do so, as there's always someone who finds it "funny" to wake you up.

Yeah, the continuous work talks during breaks can be quite exhausting😓 I knowww!!😂😂taking naps is so tricky, unless you have a car which I didn’t during my stay😂 I used to go home because luckily my schedule allowed me to

Well put! I think my phrasing didn’t come out quite as I wanted it to so thanks for that.
In french we say "avant l'heure, ce n'est pas l'heure. Après l'heure, ce n'est plus l'heure" meaning before the hour, it's not the hour. After the hour, it's no longer the hour.

About racism. France is not a racist country, here it's more about social class. If you come from the suburbs, you can be blond with blue eyes, it will be hard for you. Because of the reputation made by our medias about those zones. But if you are student, middle class or rich, dont worry in France. Discriminations here, are more about where you live than which color you have. Also the way you speak and your style. If you look hiphop, yeah you'll be disciminate. If we met a woman or a man like you, of course we will be more friendly with you ;) I am arab. I am from the proletariat, but my family aways teach me to look clean and to speak well. In my life, I had three control of police and I never been discriminated. I love my country, France is fair (except in social class fight ;) ). PS : many companies prefers hire foreigners from Africa or Maghreb than arabs or blacks from suburbs. So we are not talking about racism as you can see. It's something else.

It's funny to see you describing French people as respecting time. I guess you don't live in the South of France... Huh, no, you live in Carcassone ? That's not a place I would associate with "being right on time" :D Now, if you ever go to Japan, you will discover what punctuality really is. We are nowhere close to them on that regard.

Its great that you've been welcomed here, but systemic racism do exist. It depends where you are and who you are with. And also careful with the police. They're known to be racists. But yes there are kind people too :) Stay safe !

This "rude French" thing is an Anglo US invention and is nothing but a pile of B.S. It's called cultural differences. Most of the French are more reserved than loud Anglosaxons who shout and yell every 5 minutes for anything, but are probably more open minded than many other nationalities. As for Parisians, they are normal pople like in any other place. As someone living in the Paris area, i've often tried in the past to communicate in English with foreign tourists, whom English speaking tourists. The impression was that i bothered them more than anything else. Like in any major world capitals, a lot of people deal with harsh daily life probems, and are stressed. Go in NYC or London, and enjoy. Individual people and crowds are 2 different things, when one take the time to communicate. I really think that a lot of people, particularly in US, should definitively try to cure their problem with the French in good mental institutions. Boring.
