I've found that the easiest way to beat the "pirate king" scenario is to stay in the colonial era until you've stolen two world wonders and collected at least 200k money. Best way to do that is to spam out mines, fishing wharves, a couple of loggers, three to five plantations (which will have an efficiency at about 50%), and about five to ten ranches. If you don't you usually end up hemorrhaging money. Also, max out your number of trade routes before entering the cold war era. You will need them to keep your money above 100k.

"Wealth Required: Well Off". Damn I wish Quill actually noticed most of his people are poor and can't afford the housing he placed. Something I always did in Tropico 5 was lower the budget and bring it down to requiring poor instead.

It'd be cool if there was a dynamic that allowed you to help the Axis enough to influence the outcome of the war. Even to the point of helping them win and turning the world into a dystopian mess that essentially spoofs The Man in the High Castle with Japan and Nazi Germany as the two major powers you deal with in the Cold War instead of the US and USSR. If in this timeline you keep helping the Nazis, they defeat Japan, the modern era turns into an authoritarian Diesel-Punk world that spoofs Wolfenstein: The New Order and the only factions left are are the Nazis and the global resistance fighting them. If you help the Japanese, the just barely defeat the Nazis in a pyrrhic victory, and the Modern world rebuilds itself as the Japanese scale back their territory and become figureheads that are similar to what happened with the British Empire. Russia and the US rebuild with different tensions and lasting enmity with the Japanese, but with no tension between communists and capitalists. The Middle-east are still a faction. Instead of the EU, we just have the UK who now sees Japan as liberators. In this timeline, the most notable difference is that China's communist rise was essentially stopped, hence, instead of interacting with China as a major faction, you deal with Japan. BUT...if you carry out the same timeline to help the allies, but INSTEAD during the Cold War, you essentially help USSR, you keep the Soviet Union from collapsing. But at the same time, America doesn't collapse either. This version of the modern era causes a butterfly effect that keeps the transistor from being invented, hence, the world ends with a stagnation in culture and aesthetic taste, essentially turning into the pre-war world version of Fallout. All the factions still exist, but Russia and China are much more communist and America is more corrupt and plutocratic than ever. It's fun to dream...
