Let's Play! Cruel Necessity: The English Civil Wars 1640-1653 (Complete Playthrough)

This is a complete playthrough of the deluxe edition of the states of siege style, solitaire wargame Cruel Necessity: The English Civil Wars 1640-1653. Designed by John Welch and published by Worthington Publishing.
Cruel Necessity is a solitaire game simulating the military, political, and religious struggles of the English Civil Wars. You attempt to stop the advance of four armies bent on destroying Parliament and Puritanism, whom you represent. Simply holding on to London is not enough; you must also suppress the enemies of Puritanism, Parliamentary Government, and English domination.
There are civil wars going on not just in England, but in Scotland and Ireland too; and each will have varying impact on the play of the game at different times.
The title comes from the purported response to the beheading of King Charles by his implacable foe, Oliver Cromwell, who remarked that this act of regicide was a “Cruel necessity.”

London did a good job holding out until the end (halfway through the cards). A Cruel fate!

I made several choices that I wouldn't necessarily do in a playthrough that isn't being recorded, but I wanted to show off the different mechanics and choices the game offers.

I'm pretty sure you have not shuffled the deck. After the prologue card 😮

Right, you don't have to. You can shuffle them to play a completely random game, or you can play them in order to follow history.

Well that's like playing poker and knowing the next card. Might aswell just have the cards face up.

No, it's not. That's a poor argument. I only made it halfway through the deck even knowing they were in order because I don't have them memorized. If you take the time and mental energy to memorize 60 cards just to do better in a solitaire game, then you take this a lot more seriously than I do.
