First video I had to come back to after Beck’s passing today. One of the greatest to ever do it, and the fact that he had the respect of Les Paul puts him in a league of his own. Rest in peace JB, and thank you for the indelible mark you’ve left on the guitar and music.

So tough, definitely. Well said above ! I last saw Jeff in 2014. I mised a couple of additional chances over the years. Just as Jeff passed I was admitted to hospital for a severe sepsis knee infection. I kind of called Jeff in with me to help fight the excruciating post op pain...Who else! LOL

I was Billy Squire's guitar tech in 82 and 83 and was with him when we shot this show in Santa Monica. In fact for that one night I was the guitar guy for all 3 players. What a thrill it was for a 22 year old kid! The poster is correct. The night before the shoot they were doing a run through and they got to the jam finale. It was amazing. So much better than the take that made the show. The only people in the house was the various crew people and we were mesmerized. Les chased Jeff around unplugging his guitar several times. Jeff detuned Les's Lester and all the while they just played their asses off having a grand time. It's a shame that rehearsal didn't get filmed. Thanks for posting this. I never did get to see the show. It was called "Rock and Roll Tonite".

What an opportunity to actually meet Les Paul! In my opinion, Les is one of the 20th century's biggest treasures as far as music and the ways it is played and recorded.. Thank God, Bing Crosby gifted him that Reel to Reel Recorder! Thank God's Mother for Les getting the idea to add a second record head! The rest, is Music History! Thanks Les!!!! Saw Billy Squire back in the 80's.. Think he may have been backing up Gentle Giant in Oklahoma. I think there were three bands that night, not sure who the third band was........

How wonderful to see the great Les Paul and the person who, as a teenager became enthusiastic when he heard and saw what Les Paul played. "THAT IS THE ONE FOR ME!" said the teenager, Jeff Beck, I want to play like Les Paul and have a guitar just like that one!!" said Jeff who tried to make one out of a fence post and wires. He could not afford a new guitar and came to school and sat on the floor of our class room and I do not know how he did it, but I heard blues notes come out of the Store Room. "Some day, Jeff, you are going to be famous I said to myself" But I was too shy to tell Jeff, as I was 13 years old. Cynthia Allen McLaglen

I've always been amazed and moved by his talent, but it's even more apparent that his respect for and love of everyone he has collaborated with, adds to his incredible contribution to his art. I've never seen anyone approach playing the guitar quite like Beck did. His talent was unique - special, very special. He will be sorely missed. RIP...

This was an enjoyable broadcast. In the middle of Jeff Beck's doing a flashy riff, Les Paul reaches over and yanks out Jeff's guitar cord, as if to say "Enough of that!". So later, while Les is soloing, Jeff gives him some payback, it appears by at least feigning to de-tune one of the strings on Les's guitar, and Les then swats Jeff's hand away. It was good to see Jeff and one of his heroes having fun playing together.

I think he relearned some of Les's stuff for the Jam, and wore Three Piece Suit like going to see Royalty. worst (I have seen) was Zeck.Wild, he was drunk before he hit the stage, he showed zero respect for where he was and who he was with and did not play very well either.

I've always admired his "career" path, in that he was given many opportunities to be a part of a few legendary outfits (Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, well almost) but chose to remain independent and follow his muse. Sharing the world's stages with everyone and anyone he chose, whenever he wanted to. Not a bad gig, huh? Jeff led a blessed life because he deserved it all -- and we all benefited greatly, as observed here. Rip Becky...but if there's a rock n roll heaven you probably won't!

It's pretty clear where Jeff Beck got the inspiration for many of the "tricks" he does on guitar. Les Paul was "a Leo Fender who was a fantastic musician." (Leo didn't play an instrument.) By that I mean that Les Paul, like Leo Fender, revolutionized the guitar, were compulsive tinkerers and experimenters, and helped make the guitar popular by creating instruments that could be played loud. Practically up until the day they died, both were still working on making their ideas into reality. Creative doesn't begin to describe it.

I would love to know what he has done to that Guitar electronics wise, P90's are not splittable like a humbucker are they? Looks like it is thicker than a regular LP a well. All they need is Adrian Belew up there to add some more Guitar Noises. Two masters of the "wrong note" resolving to the right one.

Ian, You would think Jeff & Billy would at least bring a Les Paul to jam with the the great one. Telecasters over Strat's & Les Paul's over them both. I own two Tele's one Strat & a 72 & a 78 Les Paul Custom, & a few other Gibson's. Love them all but this would be my answer. Les Paul's any time. I would share this if you would like to hear my 72 . This is an older track recorded on Reel to Reel in 87. If you wish to comment please leave them on my post not back here.. Thanks .. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHyekpafdrfYiqw.html

This is interesting to see since Beck mostly plays Strats. But even if you strictly play Fenders, playing with Les Paul is an amazing experience! I wonder where that White Les Paul is now and that little black box? And how much is it worth?

Note Lester's heavily modified Gibson, complete with effects box,and Jeff is playing a"straight"Strat, apparently, with no pedals etc.Interesting.

The black box on his guitar, is the original looper. It is not an effects unit.

Despite popular belief, Les did not design the Les Paul guitar nor did he invent the electric guitar. However, he did invent multi-track recording and lots more. He was an indispensable musical and electronic genius and one of the greatest guitarists of all time, just as Beck is. While it may sound heretical, in this deep Chicago blues-style genre, Beck is King and Les is not.

No disrespect at all to the great Les Paul (RIP) but lets be honest: Jeff Beck plays like he is from another world.
