Hello Dereck, I know about what you think for "Mediterranean vibes" you think to Neapolitan style (Naples Italia), yes there's something similar. But here it's really Paris musical style in a folk song. In all romantic movie when they want show Paris, you can be sure the accompanying music start on the accordion, for the rest it's a folk song :) In fact to explain the song a little, you've to understand that the song's also about the sexual act within a couple who really love each other while making love: "There's an estuary to our rivers of sighs, where water mixes our mysteries and our beautiful differences. I'll learn to be silent there, and your tears will hold back in this OTHER Finistère with long stretches* of silence ", etc. Here the word "other" is very important, because it confirms that's here a metaphor, a pictorial comparison, therefore. Amitiés from south France, N.B.: in French it's as the same word used to designate "a silence stretch" ("une plage de silence", so) as to designate simply "the beach" ("la plage", so). So here the ambiguity of the word, its double meaning is therefore intentional.

Hi Dereck! I'm glad you're back! Finally! Hope you had a good vacation in PR! 😉 You have tanned! 😆 It's been a while since you last done Les Innocents (At the end of January)! L'Autre Finistère (The Other Finistère) is a good song, a folk song as you say, released in 1992 and taken from their second album "Fous A Lier" (Crazy People). I believe it's not the first extract of this album but the second one, before it was "Mon Dernier Soldat (Toi Mon Roi)", if I'm not mistaken, and a music video in the same tones than this one. It's the BEST HIT on this album ranked no.10 in TOP 50 in 1993 with 17 weeks of presence in the charts. It contains several organic elements ( the sound of the waves, the cry of seagulls) and in the song the accordion! The music video was shot in the streets of Paris and also near the Seine with barges. And for the beach in Britanny, the Finistère department, hence the title! Jipé is the male singer (they were again 4 at the time) and the musical kind of this group is Pop and Folk Rock. From 2013, they're only two, Jipé the singer and Jean-Christophe Urbain who joined the group from 1988 after the HIT: "Jodie" in the single "Et Le Temps N'Attend pas" (And Time Doesn'T Wait), a rare song which is in the compilation released in 2003. They released together 2 albums since 2015. You have another title "Un Homme Extraordinaire" (An Extraordinary Man), one of my favs in this opus "Fous A Lier" sold at 500'000 copies. For the single and M/V release, this song is SHORTER than album version ( Radio Edit : 4'00). Moreover, with this album they receive the Bus D'Acier and in 1994 The Victoires De La Musique (The Victories Of Music). In 1995, the 3rd album "Post Partum", you have the singles "Un Monde Parfait" (A Perfect World) which is a fast rock song with "Anglo-Saxon" vibes just like part of this opus, "Colore" (in a "new version" for the single release) in Spring 1996 and "Dentelle" a short song. For your next react on 'em, I recommend you "Un Homme Extraordinaire" (1993) which became like "Un Autre Finistère" a radiophonic song in France. Thanks for great work dude. Kiss from France. 🇫🇷

The song speaks along about Finistère, but the video lands in Paris. Finistère can be interpreted as the end of the world, it was even more before we discovered America. Anyway they don't speak directly about the Finistère but "this other Finistère", what I interpret as an opposite way of life, here we are, Paris.

The track is sung in French and English and is titled "La comédie". The original "To the end" is only done in English by Damon and can be found on Blur's emblematic album "The great escape".

To my knowledge, they did not visit many times the province of Quebec in Canada where I live but I had a chance to see them twice, back in the 1980's in Quebec city and again a few years ago when they reformed as a duo and participated in the Francos de Montréal in 2014. You can see my pictures and videos in my Google photos account (sorry, you'll have to endure me singing along often as I couldn't resist) : photos.app.goo.gl/NfcAMMXbCTjmShPF8 Also by this band, let me suggest "Un monde parfait", which is a jewel to my ears, you can find the official video here : kzread.info/dash/bejne/lGx8zsWAedTfhdY.html

Bibie "Tout Doucement" (1985), no.2 for 2 weeks! EPIC and ICONIC!!! 😄😉
