No surprise concerning the Gospel choir: Goldman as a teenager was a scout and a singer in a gospel choir in Montrouge where he grew up. They released a single as the Red Mountain Gospellers, Montrouge translating as Red Mountain in English!

Thanks for this titbit about jjg's formative years. It indeed helps us (& our Derek, too, I'm sure) to get even deeper into this very "jjg-branded/identifyable" smash-hit-single of the 80's. And, the more 411 on jjg anybody can provide, the better, too, this goes without saying, but-it's-better-being-said... I'm almost 47 years old. Born and raised in France until 25 when I left for Canada. 35 years ago, I listened to this song probably hundred times on my Walkman Sony. This is a masterpiece and it brings so many memories.
Comme toujours du très bon Goldman. Un artiste très spécial qui a multiplié les tubes pour lui et également pour les autres. Le meilleur pour moi. Mais ce n'est que mon avis. Avec des musiciens incroyables. Comme le saxophoniste de Supertramp John Helliwel.

Bonjour, pour moi c'est le meilleur, il y a d'autres comme Berger ou Gainsbourg, Balavoine etc mais JJ Goldman touche à plus d univers musicaux ; je pense franchement que c'est le meilleur. ( NB: perso les reprises me derangent mais il y a deux chanteurs dont pour moi on ne doit pas reprendre car c'est juste mauvais aux oreilles c'est juste debile sans aucun intérêt : MJ et Goldman )

@@alba8433 Tout à fait d'accord. Je n'ai pas répondu à celui qui citait Berger et Goldman. Berger n'a pas connu autant de succès et Berger n'était pas un aussi bon musicien que Goldman. Berger,il jouait du piano. Goldman, guitare et il est un soliste, piano,harmonica ou il excelle, basse,violon et même batterie mais il est trop modeste pour dire qu'il est un bon bassiste et un bon batteur.Goldman est bien évidemment le meilleur. Il a travaillé en plus avec des musiciens exceptionnels. Comme Pino Palladino qui est à la basse sur l'album Fredericks/Goldman/Jones. Palladino est l'un des meilleurs bassistes du monde voir le meilleur. Et il n'accepte de jouer qu'avec des grands artistes.L'album d'eux qu'a écrit Goldman pour C.Dion écrase toute la concurrence francophone. Il s'est vendu à plus de 10 millions d'exemplaires. Sans oublier,les autres collaborations de Goldman. Khaled avec Aïcha un record de vente dans cette catégorie. Calogero,Kaas,Fiori,Pagny,Zaz,De Palmas etc ..Sans oublier L'album gang pour Johnny qui s'est beaucoup vendu que l'album qu'avait fait Berger pour Johnny.Ou L'album Lorada avec J'la croise tous les matins encore pour Johnny.Enfin,ses albums et ses concerts à Goldman,il a toujours fait des succès. C'est le plus grand artiste, auteur et compositeur français sans aucun doute.

@@alba8433 Goldman est surtout un bien meilleur musicien que Berger, Gainsbourg, Balavoine etc. Je me rappelle d'un Taratata avec Cabrel. Où Cabrel expliquait qu'il lui fallait beaucoup de temps pour écrire et Goldman était invité. Goldman,il ne lui fallait pas beaucoup de temps. Et Goldman qui se moquait un peu de Cabrel en expliquant que Cabrel utilisait énormément le dictionnaire de rimes. Où l'émission Frequenstar avec Cabrel qui avait également invité Goldman. Ils avaient repris ensemble comme toi. Et Goldman était le soliste. Comme sur la chanson petite Marie où Goldman était le soliste et celui qui expliquait également qu'on lui avait demandé de travailler cette chanson. Cabrel m'est apparu tellement plus petit et tellement moins doué.

Goldman's last album was released in 2001. He is very discrete in the public life so he is pratically invisible for more than 20 years but he has been elected again in 2023 French people's favorite person. (for the 7th time). It says a lot

@@richthi J'attends avec impatience : "il suffira d'un signe", "la vie par procuration". Il y en a une autre que j'aime particulièrement, c'est "tu manques". Je suis ravie aussi d'échanger avec (je n'aime pas le terme fan), d'autres personnes qui aiment Jean-Jacques Goldman.

This song "Long Is The Road (Américain)" was released in October 1984 as the third and final single from his third album "Positif" (Positive) ranked no.6 on the TOP 50 and no.47 in Europe on the European Hot 100 se selling more than 400,000 copies. The title deals with the "American Dream" in general, the first verse speaking of the authentic Eldorado, the second verse referring to the disappointment with social inequalities and the difficulty of becoming rich in the United States. The videoclip is of course directed by his childhood friend Bernard Schmitt like the majority of his music videos. A saxophone solo performed by John Helliwell, the saxophonist of Supertramp but he doesn't appear in the video. There is even an English version of this song: "USA (Long Is The Road)" for Europe (Netherlands, Spain, Portugal). I recommend you in this opus: Encore Un Matin (Again A Morning) the same year and on the following album: La Vie Par Procuration (Life By Proxy) in 1985 (album version: more synthpop) and in live (En Public) in 1986. Great memories with this song by Jean-Jacques Goldman when I was 7 years old in 2nd Grade. It's my favorite song from this album Positif with Envole-Moi, for me the two best! 😊😍🥰 There is also Encore Un Matin, the previous single released the same year. If I remember correctly, Long Is The Road (American) is JJG's first song ranked in the TOP 50 since it was released around November at the time of the encrypted channel Canal + and this famous reliable ranking of singles and albums in France. In any case, you may not know that you put the cover of the 45 RPM European pressing because just the title is different: USA (Long Is The Road) and what's more the version on the other hand is 100% English!!! ! Even the title "Envole-Moi" which you really liked in both versions (single and Live 2002) is also in the language of Shakespeare and is called Love Me Away which can be found in audio on KZread. On KZread channel, they published the 100% English version at the time instead of the French version and put it on March 2, 2021. JJG remains THE BEST forever!😉😋🤩

@@TRISTANA2210 Oui c'est vrai que c'est long, ça fait déjà un an que c'est comme ça depuis qu'il est parti de San Diego pour revenir dans son New Jersey. Puis tout dépend si tu es membre Gold ou Platinum. Je crois que depuis les Gold passent plus vite que les Platinum. Peut-être cette semaine ou les jours qui suivent. Je ne connaissais pas cette chanteuse quand j'étais gosse ni même la chanson, je l'ai su des décennies après. J'ai vu qu'ici quelques personnes la demandent depuis 3 ans dans les comms mais très sincèrement je préfère Agathe (Regrets).😉Elle fait partie de ces chansons que j'ai entendu quand j'avais 6-7 ans et dont je me rappelle le plus car elle apparaît parfois dans quelques compils 80's. Comme je te l'ai dit y'aura sûrement dans l'année des chansons ou interprètes que tu aimes bien.😉😁 Très bonne année à toi aussi.
