Veronique Sanson was Michel's first love, but she fell in love with an american musician. She left Michel to go live in USA. After that, Michel met France Gall, and even if their love was truly deep, he was still somehow nostalgic about Veronique. The legend says he wrote this song about their break up. It became the biggest hit of his album (which title means "How love is bizarre"). Veronique heard the song, while living in USA she wrote another song to respond to him. "Je serai là" (I'll be there) is a different song, written by Veronique, you should check it ;)

To answer your question, Michel Berger already knew France Gall since they had married in 1976 (a year after the release of the song "Seras-tu là ?" in 1975). Hi and thanx for this reaction! Maybe you should know, when Véronique was in the USA and not so happy with Stephen Stills, her husband at the time, she wrote "le maudit". It´s a song about her feelings for Berger and her situation in the USA. She then came back to France and her first TV show in France was with Berger and she had to sing this song "le Maudit" in his presence. Berger said, it was a beautiful song. That´s all. You can watch this on youtube. "Seras-tu là" is in a way an answer to "le Maudit". Then she answered with "je serai là". But you can feel in this song, she´s showing a limit and yes, she will be there as a friend... And the song "La minute de silence" you reacted to, is the last answer of Berger, and his way to tell her...he has buried his love for her. That´s why the minute of silence. It was beautiful, that for that song Berger had the help and and the support of his best friend, Balavoine.... OK.... keep enjoying other musical discoveries!!! Keep up the good work....

Dereck, please listen to EVA (german born) singing mostly in French: ''Dis quand reviendras-tu'' (tell me, when you will be back). Barbara, the french singer, wrote and interpreted that song. A jewel. Eva's lived and died in Montreal in March 2020. She exposed her paintings too. She had a spellbinding voice and her stage presence, his warm personality earned her respect and admiration from both critics and audiences. The song ''Où s'en vont mourir les reves'' (where the dreams die) was liked by many.

Hi Dereck, love that format when you react to both the original and the cover. In this case, Véronique is by far above with her vocals and it makes me prefer her version. I do love the instrumentation on Michel Berger's one though.
