Leonora Carrington: The Sorceress of Surrealism

Standing before Leonora Carrington’s monumental canvas Sueño (Nephesh as the Soul in a State of Sleep), a swirling, mystical universe populated with goddesses, phantoms and otherworldly creatures comes alive. The poet Edward James once said her canvases “are not merely painted, they are brewed. They sometimes seem to have materialized in a cauldron at the stroke of midnight.” In this video, Julian Dawes explores the meaning behind these various figures, highlighting Carrington’s unique conception of surrealism.

Leonora's work is simply amazing, the metaphysical word embrace reality in hand of the methodology. I visited the Leonora Carrington Museum and not only the paintings are amazing her work with bronze and her hands is marvelous ❤️ a great example of artistic feminism.

Did you ever find out? The one they are discussing that was sold is Sueno; the first one after that (though a time stamp would have helped so I'm not sure this is the painting you mean) is The Sidhe.

What a beautiful interpretation ! ... Except for the inclusion of the Minotaur. All the phrases he used doesn't fit with what the Minotaur stands for but does describes the Egyptian goddess Hathor to a T. If this artist had interest like myself she wouldn't misuse a symbol. It would be the seer who, as in this gentleman, is mistaken.

You mean like art that depicts people being tortured to death by being nailed to wood?
