I'm a native New Yorker (you have to be born here to understand how it works) and that's exactly right. While checking myself in the mirror I saw out of the corner of my eye John Belushi taking a leak at a urinal in the men's room of a movie theater in Manhattan. He noticed I noticed, put his finger up to his lips as if to say, "shh", I smiled, he smiled back, I left, and that was that. That's my Belushi story. The movie was "Jaws", by the way.

Leonard used Spock as a philosophical tool- very erudite and reflective. He was a great guy, took a little bit of his heritage (shin/Shekhinah) and used it to wonderful effect. This is the truest realization of bringing your culture with you.

What I really liked in this interview, is that aside from the COPD discussion, much of it were questions that Nimoy has answered a million times yet he took it and answered with humor and interest. He seemed glad to be there and share. Many, many actors don't want to talk about the "old days", they just want to push whatever new book or activity they are involved with.

King Voxel IT wasn't like he was just diagnosed it just isn't that kind of disease. He quit smoking in his 50s, probably was diagnosed then, or he'd would have probably continued smoking. If for 30 years he would have really went out and was a champion for COPD, and not smoking, COPD would have a chance to be cured , or at least very advanced treatments. He could have saved many lives.

I saw the first Star trek motion picture 1980 I think. It was at a theater in Eugene Oregon. When William shatner's name came on the screen everyone gave him on applause. When Leonard Nimoy's name came on the screen He got a standing ovation! These folks were the catalyst for what we now call cosplay. Star trek conventions were really the very first true science fiction conventions of any note. The first one he ever went to drew 27,000 people and had to shut it down because there were so many people there.

***** My father went to school with him at Boston English High School. I have his yearbook and there are photos of him in it. But I never even knew my father knew Leonard Nimoy until years after my father died. He never told me. I was going through his old things and found the yearbook and a birthday card Mr. Nimoy gave him. I was a HUGE Star Trek fan as a kid. At first I didn't believe it or thought it was a different Leonard Nimoy but then I asked my Mom about it and she confirmed that it was true. There were only a few hundred of those yearbooks printed. I just wish I had thought to get Mr. Nimoy to autograph if. I'm sure he would have. It and the card are among my most prized possessions. I just don't understand all those times we sat around the TV watching Star Trek together and my parents just never mentioned my Dad knew him, especially the year my brother and I dressed up as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock for Halloween. I think I was ten and my brother was 7. I wanted to be Spock but my brother had a better face for it.

Bill Benton My aunt died because the holistic witch doctor she was seeing talked her out of correct treatment. While good nutrition helps to keep the body otherwise healthy and strong, one cannot cure cancer with herbs and spices. Actual medicine is needed. I have been cured by proper medical care. I use herbs from my herb garden to season my food and yes there are some things that can be treated by herbs, but again, cancer isn't one of them. As for chiropractors, they are all quacks. There is no actual science to back it up. As for huge difference, it made a huge difference to my aunt, it killed her.

As a young guy I smoked for 5 years. Took the next year to quit. I would jog anywhere up to three miles a day. An active life style helped me to quit. I was an alcoholic for 10 years. been clean for 34 years. Fortunately for me the Liver can heal well. Change of diet using the spice Turmeric and other supplements.

Of all the things I've learned and all the things I've accomplished in life and humanity.....smoking overshadows them as my ultimate failure! P.S. I was born March 6,1961. in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada, a town that dearly loves all the cast and workers that gave us Star Trek...You will be missed but NEVER forgotten Leonard...thanks for the memories

Leonard Nimoy is with the Red Shirts now :( a friend of mine, his father was a officer in the British Army, a Doctor I remember him telling us that even if you smoke for a while then give up there is still filth in your lungs that never goes, they are never as clean as they were before someone started smoking They get you when young, some kids think it's a way to rebel not realising the rich families and big corporations are the ones making almost 100% profit on them it's more conformity that rebelling. it's not nice visiting old friends or family member on their death bet crying and wishing they never started in the first place
