A blessing here and there couldn't hurt right?
I met him once. It was way back when I was a Boy Scout, and he was at a function that we were having. He was sitting in the front, at a table and the radio announcer was interviewing him, and telling us to come up and meet Leonard. I went up and he signed a picture for me, and spoke with me for a few minutes, since no one was coming up. I gave him the Vulcan salute and he did it with his left hand and asked me if I could do it that way. Well since I am left-handed, I was able to do it. That impressed him for some strange reason and he started laughing. When this man laughed, you got to laughing too. His whole face would light up, and soon we had the announcer laughing too. He wrote on the back on the picture, "To my friend Josiel, thank you for the smiles." I still have the pic, next to some doodles by Freddie Mercury. Some of my treasures are beyond money. Damm I've been lucky! RIP kind sir! You will be missed!

In Jewish culture, the hand gesture (two hands together showing the "Vulcan sign") is done together with the chanting of the Aharonic blessing done usually at the end of the service during Shabbat (Saturday) and Erev Shabbat (Friday night). It's a beautiful blessing.

It's actually a beautiful blessing. Everytime my husband does the hand gesture during Erev Shabbat (Friday night service in the homes) while reciting the Aharonic blessing, all my kids would run up to him to be enveloped within his tallit (prayer shawl) so as to grab the blessing coming forth from their dad's mouth. Despite seeing this every Friday night, I'm still deeply moved by the scene.
Of all the souls on television and in the movies I have encountered, his was the most... Human.
Rest In Peace, Sir. Thank you for being.
“Live long and prosper” is such a touching and respectful greeting to give someone. It’s very much like a blessing, really. I love it.

I really felt the passing of Leonard Nimoy. The day he passed away was the last time I spoke with my father. Two days later, I got the call that my father had passed away. I can't think of Leonard Nimoy without thinking about my father.
I really love this story. basically the only reason we have the Vulcan salute is because a young Leonard Nimoy did a faux pas in Temple and looked at something he wasn't supposed to, and because he did that, he took it to heart and remembered it all those years later.
A superb story told by Leonard Nimoy, deceased recently, a Jewish actor that eternised a Jewish greeting in cinema
What a remarkable man...

I will always remember my Grandfather z"l telling my brother and I to never look during the blessing, he'd hug us and cover us with his tallit and we'd hear the chant and the shofar during the Holydays. I'm a 32 year old man now, agnostic, yet the sound and the chant still fill me with reverence and awe! Live long and prosper, folks.

I never knew my biological father. So, as a kid I needed a father figure. When I started watching Star Trek, Spock stood out as someone that I would have liked my dad to have been like. I think it's because of that that I could identify with him the most out of the rest of the crew.

I wouldn't think the Romulans or Klingons would take issue with Spock as a person (Vulcan/Human). Both races though warlike would have to know he was a person who's character demonstrated honesty, loyalty and respect plus would be willing fight to uphold his values (beware the Vulcan death grip - lol! Yes I know, I know..). Certainly some (of both races) may have wanted to kill him, but at the same time would have respected how he conducted himself. Romulans & Klingons would certainly not go the cowards route & down vote him even if they hated him as an adversary (they would want to fight him face to face..). I had the privilege of meeting him over 40 years ago and was a true honor. I'm not Jewish but no matter. The man transcended religion. Peace & long life to all who read this & Shalom!

When Leonard Nimoy was a child he admired the actor Danny Kaye. Danny Kaye came to Boston to promote a movie, where Leonard Nimoy lived as child. Nimoy went to go see him. After the film Nimoy went outside and saw Danny Kaye and ran to him to get his autograph. One of Danny Kaye's body guards brushed Nimoy off and said, "Get out of here kid." Nimoy was standing there disapointed and said, "When I become a big time star, I'm going to give everybody and anybody my autograph to whoever asks for it." He actually did it. I was in a store when he came to promote his record album. I was a child and there was a long line of kids waiting for his autograph and one by one he signed for anybody. He said, "later in my live it became virtually impossible to do that." After the third episode of Startrek, he got the most mail than any of the other cast members. He actually tried to answer it all but again, due to the amount he was getting it became impossible.

" The simplest would be to say, _'Languh yoren osta lebn.'_ It's a typical Yiddish expression. Parents say it to their kids. It means, _'You should live many years.'_ " -Leonard Nimoy, on the origin of the Vulcan phrase _"Live Long and Prosper."_ He did. ツ RIP

I really liked spock one of the reasons I've studied logic. A great man that gave many joy! Live long and prosper in the next life Leonard.
When someone passes, we Jews say 'may their memory be a blessing'. The memory of Leonard Nimoy memory is absolutely a blessing. One that I intend to pass on to as many as I can.
I am proud to say l was born and brought up in the old west end of Boston only a couple of streets away from Leonard. My oldest sister knew Leonard. It was a wonderful place to grow up with all races and creeds and the neighborhood was destroyed for political greed.
1. Nimoy told this story more than a few times but this is my favorite version by far. I love his conspiratorial delight at getting people to bless each orher. 2. I'm sure it was. That was my instant interpretation as I watched the movie in the theater, in Hollywood, when it first came out. I'm not Jewish, but I know the Bible and I know the history of the Ark. The Ark embodied tremendous power and allowed no one to even touch it, much less open it. As the movie proceeded, the instant I saw the first hint of something supernatural happening, I gasped. I knew it was going to get really ugly, and it did. Given the legends surrounding the Ark, what happened in the movie seemed completely plausible to me. I think Spielberg did very good job.

When Leonard Nimoy is explaining why one does not look during the benediction, it reminded me of the incident in Scripture (Exodus 33:12-23) where Moses asked to see the face of God. Picking up at verse 20: But He (God) said, "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me and live. 21. And the LORD said, "Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. 22. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand while I pass by. 23. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen."

that's basically the correct association. the kohnaim (priests) who perform the ritual are acting as agents of the L-rd. one should refrain from looking. some people even turn their back to the holy ark to avoid getting curious but it is not condoned.
