People underestimate the intelligence of every animal just because we can’t speak the same language. It’s also one of the things humans do to justify eating animals or seeing them as a “pest” that needs to be killed (like a rat, for example), which is really sad. I think if more people came to terms with the intelligence and emotions that other animals have, including the ones we categorize as “livestock,” they would see how wrong it is to eat them.

@@anti-ethniccleansing465 It's ironic you mentioned that. I invested everything, risking my family's future, in a large ranch to raise bison. I figured I could exploit a few to cover expenses to keep things going. Then after I was all-in, I realized I couldn't sacrifice a single one just for money. Rather than living comfortably as we were, we are barely scraping by. But... I can sleep at night. Some good came from it though. Our ranch is situated between two reservations. I was able to make a deal with both tribes that as the calves were mature enough, rather than kill them for profit, I can send them to the reservations where they can live in safety. Hopefully increasing their numbers as well. Not many are aware that not far back in our history, the wisdom of our political leaders decided that without the buffalo, Native Americans would be starved into submission. They were right, it worked. The herds numbered in the hundreds of thousands. In a few short years less than 500 remained. Essentially extinct. Most were killed & left to rot where they fell. Many were shot for "fun" out the windows of moving trains. Absolutely disgusting. Private ranchers have increased those numbers to between 5,000 to 7,000. All which are privately owned. It's at least a start. I'm not sure how many I can add to that in my lifetime but my son is as insane as I am and has promised to continue after I'm gone. He's not able to kill one either. We started with only 30 head and while the spreadsheets looked spectacular, one look at those magnificent animals changed everything.

@@bendover4154 That is a remarkable story, and I am so proud of you for having made such a massive decision that affects _SO MUCH BEYOND YOU AND YOURS!_ I’m not sure how you are able to get by, but it sounds like you have at the very least made many sacrifices in this decision to not go forward with your plan to exploit and extinguish precious lives. I only wish other animals were seen as precious though, even though they aren’t endangered. Thank goodness that there was a solution available to help you change course. I have seen what you call bison and I called buffalos up close in person in my life and they are indeed magnificent majestic animals. From around ages 11-15, I used to go to a Girl Scout summer camp every year for years on Catalina Island off of the coast of Southern California, where many decades ago movie producers transported a bunch of them over there to make a movie and left them there lol. They ended up prospering and freely roam the island! Buffalo patties everywhere we had to watch out for lol. So lovely and unscared of us humans (we were essentially all either ladies or small girls). I hope that they are still safe to this day, but this was back in the late 80s when I would go to this camp. We were taught to have the utmost respect for them, and the biggest priority was to _NEVER_ get in the middle between a baby bison and an adult one that was going to obviously be presumed to be the mother. In fact, this was so ingrained in me that I had a never ending scare one night because I thought a baby buffalo had somehow walked into our massive walk-in four-man tent (it was a large tent on a wooden platform, where each of us young girls were on bed cots), and I thought the baby was scared standing still in a corner frightened. I was petrified and couldn’t even get the nerve to speak out to my friends in the tent to wake them up and say there is a baby buffalo in our tent! All I knew is that I shouldn’t move because the mommy is probably nearby and I don’t want to upset her. So I was scared to even breathe for what seemed like many hours just staring at him, but it was probably maybe an hour later that my young brain started realizing that maybe it is just a shadow in the tent and not an actual live baby buffalo. I can’t even describe the wonder and awe I had that sleepless evening, even though I had terror at the same time because of how much we were taught to respect them. Can you imagine if people had such respect for every animal, so the idea of putting them on their plates is completely outlandish? I went to leave a voicemail for someone earlier tonight and I had to completely stop and derail the whole voicemail to tell them “Oh my God! There is a wild baby bunny on a lawn I am walking by right now! I haven’t seen one for years!” It was exciting and after I hung up, I slowly walked back to simply say hello to it and kept my distance… I saw that he was frozen still and one of his family members began creeping out from a bush from across the lawn… It was precious and I told him to not worry and I will leave him now so he can get back to his home. I just can’t imagine that people eat any of these precious lives. 😢 I stopped eating animals at 16 years old (I am 47 now). People think I’m crazy for doing that, but I simply don’t understand how their empathy gene has been so turned off that they never had that moment of thinking “What am I eating right now? Did they suffer?” I’ve never had a health issues from not eating animals (in fact I learned that vegetarian and vegans live on average almost a decade longer!), and it’s very frustrating that others don’t listen to their hearts telling them that this shit ain’t right. I wish you the very best with helping the buffaloes!! I even remember Girl Scout songs we would sing about them. :) I hope that you and your son and family continue living in such a way to respect and care for the amazing voiceless animals that we should be caring for and being guardians for instead of killing. Take care!

@@anti-ethniccleansing465 You say that like I had a choice. I'm OK with being at the top of the food chain. If GOD didn't want us eating animals he wouldn't have made them taste so good. I just can't be the one raising then killing them. Funny story about rabbits. Our ranch is knee deep in them. My German Shepherd loves chasing them but if they stop, the game is over and he sadly walks away. I think he knows I'd kick his butt if he actually hurt one. Anyway I was standing outside talking to one of the few neighbors we have... (The one "trying" to teach me the Navajo language. Isn't going well BTW LOL) Anyway there was a rabbit in sight so I told my dog to "go get it". He did! And brought it back to me! The poor thing was breathing hard but otherwise looked dead. I picked it up, rushed inside & laid in on my bed. As soon as it realized the dog was on the other side of the door, it jumped up and was fine! He / she was faking! That was nearly two years ago and it's still hopping around our bedroom. Not checking the gender, I named it "Snack" as it's kinda small for a rabbit. It uses a cat litter box so no issues there. Then at night it waits until I'm settled in bed then jumps up & lays down pushing on my back. (I always sleep on my side) I don't know if it's a security thing or there for my body heat. Regardless it's kinda cool having it around. As for herding buffalo, there is a saying about that... "you can make them go anywhere THEY want to go." I won't approach them on foot, not even a vehicle. It's horseback or keep my distance. They know our trucks as we use them to drop off bales of alfalfa during the winter. That's relatively safe as their focus is on lunch, not us. The area we are in is Monument Valley AZ. (Google images) That's the "useless land" our ancestors didn't want so that's where they laid out the reservations. As you can see it's as pristine as when created. Compare that to the rest of the state. Pretty impressive for a bunch of "savages". They are by far the best neighbors I've ever had!

@@bendover4154 Speaking of savages, I think it is pretty “savage” to eat innocent animals in this day and age, because not only is it completely unnecessary unless you’re in a survivalist situation, living in the Amazon jungle or some shit, but it’s actually unhealthy for people and lowers their lifespan. But we both live in the USA. I don’t use such silly excuses as religion to justify causing torture and harm on innocent beings who just want nothing more to live their lives peacefully like we do. I don’t think somebody’s God wants them to live a less amount of time on this earth, or watch man do anything to the animals it creates besides being guardians for them... In fact, I was raised Christian and know very well that Adam and Eve were vegans living _WITH_ animals and nature (not killing and eating animals) before they sinned and the fall of man happened! Even with an Abrahamic religion background, it is clear that when mankind was innocent, man would never lay a finger to hurt an innocent animal. They only started doing that after they sinned and became “sinful.” I think it is pretty crazy when religious people ignore that part of the religious text to justify supposedly being “on the top of the food chain” (when we really even aren’t at all on a physical level. The only thing that has given us power over other predators are the tools we created - but without a gun, a pissed off bear is going to kill and eat us any day of the week if we don’t respect its space, and without a boat/weapons, a shark wins if we piss it off, etc. Man wasn’t born with guns and boats. Did God want man to create weapons for killing, or did the devil??). I also think there is an internal problem with someone who hasn’t faced their hypocritical nature. In fact, the very introspective question I asked myself when I was 16 years old was “would I be able to kill the animal that I am cooking at this moment and about to eat?” The answer was a resounding _“HELL NO!”_ That’s when I knew I was being a massive hypocrite and started asking deeper questions on why did I think it was normal to eat animals, because yet again, I was raised to eat animals too in a Christian household, going against the grain at age 16 (the reason why you think they taste good is because you have been conditioned from a young age to enjoy that taste/texture, but the flesh still has to be changed a ton by cooking it, and flavoring it with herbs and seasonings that come from vegetables, etc). I remember when I was a young child and asking my mother what chicken was, and being extremely floored and disturbed when I figured out that chicken was actually the ANIMAL chicken! That is the mind of a young innocent child (“out of the mouth of babes,” right?) - instantly knowing something is very WRONG! That is why children hate seeing animals hurt/killed/die, unless they are psychopathic or have other mental issues, and people who work in the livestock industry that do the things you can’t get yourself to do suffer from severe mental illness problems. One has to ask themselves, if their God thought it was good to eat his other precious creations, then why does such a diet cause humans to die on average nearly a decade earlier than the rest of humanity? Why does their God give the all the animals pain receptors and emotions to feel all of the suffering and killing that is inflicted on them? Why is it disturbing to eat dogs here, but not in other countries. Or why is it NOT disturbing to eat cows here but it absolutely is in India? People make all sorts of cognitive dissonance justifications to keep enjoying a bad habit they have been ingrained with, which they know deep down in their heart is wrong. You have admitted as such yourself by saying that you could never raise and kill the animals you eat. You made fantastic start with the buffaloes, and I hope that one day you follow your heart to its logical conclusion of what else you put on your plate. You mentioned that your son will take over once you are gone, but I think the longer you are on this earth the better, before he has to take over to continue your legacy. You’d be amazed at how many severe health problems come from meat-based diets (heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, etc), to the point that it is the leading contributor to the top two causes of death in the USA. I never met either of my grandfathers because of it… Both died from heart disease problems because of a meat-based diet, and not getting emergency help quick enough when they had their heart attacks/strokes. My father was lucky to get to the hospital in time for his first heart attack so he is fortunately still alive with a stint and drastically changed his diet since then. My mother is overweight and on statins for cholesterol for her meat-based diet issues, and has changed her diet some but not enough - she’s still a ticking time bomb at this point, which is sad. My reply will probably make you angry, but it is honestly nothing but the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I think that is the best way to be towards anybody. Take care.

She jumped to my side immediately and we were close companions ever since. About 3 years ago Diva was helping me repair my transmission at the house. She was always a free roam dog and the house is out in the woods. Basically the middle of nowhere. Well maybe an hour in the repair I noticed she was missing. After looking for her for a long time my family and I couldn't find anything. I'm thinking she was picked up by a large bird. She would always bark if a person was about, other dogs too. Bird's really the only thing I can think of. If she ran away it would be insane cuz she was free roam from birth and never once left.

Rescued animals always seem to be super thankful if they end up adapting well to home life from my experience. Knew two rescued cats and although they had their own quirks, they were both super affectionate and happy when they finally adjusted. One you initially couldn't touch him behind his neck or he'd snap at you. Eventually would end up curling up next to me and being fine with belly scratches.

I know you're more of an aquarium guy, but if you have any spare tanks you should look into making a moss garden similar to the tank in the old house at 19:30. It's basically gravel, hardware cloth, dirt, and moss/ferns/small plants. Everything can be sourced from your own backyard and often works better that way. If you put a heating pad on the bottom then it'll even rain in the tank if the lid is semi-sealed. I've even seen them as built as a paludarium with half the tank being divided off for river fish.

@@jonathanbair523 I really hope so! Those little wee crabs are just the most adorable little things!! They seem to have good instincts to stay away when danger is present and only press upon their hunger instincts when things are safer and the coast is clear. It almost seems like Leon is acting like an older big brother being a tease in this aquarium, which I know is so silly and anthropomorphic to think.

Discovery channel, Animal Planet, and every other documentary learning channel needs to toss money at you to produce content for them. These videos are fascinating, beautifully crafted, charming, infinitely curious, and absolutely joyous. If there ever is an Academy Award nomination for independent youtube documentary it will be a massive crime to the Arts if you aren't nominated. THIS is what the world needs more of.

I loved watching Leon try to assert his dominance over the little crab. Maybe being in pre-moult has made him cranky 😂 It's amazing having the opportunity to observe the behaviours of a creature that seems to be seldom kept as a "pet". Your content is great, I appreciate your unique take on things, especially finding the beauty in the abandoned house. You have a unique talent for shining a light of appreciation on things that many overlook! EDIT: I just watched the ending, I'm so glad to learn that Leon had a successful moult! Just from having tiny freshwater shrimp, I know it can be a bit of a dicey time, and diet/water parameters need to be just right. Congratulations on seeing him safely through two moults, I can't wait to see the video about it.

I’m not gonna lie - with the head on shots where we see the front of leon’s face and body and a bit of underneath it, seeing all the legs and mandibles or whatever all constantly moving around make me very uncomfortable and squeamish. It gives the creepy crawly feeling, which is very similar to the terrible arachnophobia I’ve had all my life. Creatures that have so many quickly moving limbs is nightmare fuel for me. But I love his character and story, and it honestly makes me wonder _WHY_ he needs so many constantly limbs/mandibles below his face etc, and why they need to be constantly moving... The older I get (I’m 47 now), the more I keep trying to overcome that huge fear in me. I’ve progressed a lot in my life, to the point now where I will will give a spider in my apartment a name and talk to it a bit as I capture it and rehome it outside, just to try to personalize them some and lower the fear in me (because I do acknowledge spiders are important helpers and deserve respect). My greatest accomplishment so far is showing care for a handicapped cockroach lol. I’m deathly creeped out by them, especially because when they’re normal, they move sooo terrifyingly fast, but I felt bad for this one I chanced upon because it was stuck on it’s back and missing 1-2 legs (one of which being one of it’s 2 important hind legs). I think he might be missing one of his front legs on the opposite side of his body too, but it’s hard to get myself to inspect too closely... So anyways I put it in a Tupperware container and have been feeding it scraps in there, because I know it would just starve to death or get eaten to death right away if left out in nature. This is the craziest thing I’ve done, but I guess I just feel like there’s no harm in showing it some compassion. It was rather bizarre trying to observe it for a bit when it was awake and moving around... it was interesting to watch how he eats, and it was fascinating to see how he cleaned his antennae.

This is random, but I wonder this because I noticed that the handicapped cockroach I mentioned earlier almost seems to sleep, because he is inactive a lot of the times and I almost wonder if he is dead, but then he will be active a bit here and there (very low energy)... So I thought to look up “do lobsters sleep?“ Has Brady ever talked about this subject at all? It’s really sad, but I couldn’t find anything on the Internet about it! Do y’all know what kept coming up instead? Instructions on “how to put a lobster asleep“ before you kill it for food. 😢 Everything that came up was just all about killing lobsters for food and it was really sad… All I wanted to know is if a lobster has some kind of sleep state… Or are his limbs constantly moving and he is always alert.

  • @anti-ethniccleansing465

@@chinchepunta Thanks for the reply… That’s pretty crazy if true! What an absolutely foreign thing to be able to go through living 100 years like a lobster can and not ever need to sleep!!! Can you imagine what it would be like if humans never needed such downtime? Going back to my earlier comment in the thread, I did a bit of reading about how lobsters breathe, and am now wondering if I have a decent hypothesis as to why all their little “mandible”-type limbs are constantly moving (you know, not it’s freaking 10 legs, but the _OTHER_ limbs lol)... Lobster gills are located in that region of lobster bodies (under their head, between their legs). I’m thinking that the lobsters are constantly pushing fresh water into their gills for osmosis with those mini-limbs. If any knowledgeable marine life bros want to chime in, that would be wonderful. :) P.S. I also found out the “scientific” reason that lobsters give me the same exact creepy crawly fear feeling just like spiders do. It isn’t just about the many legs thing - they have a variety of things in common, as apparently both lobsters and arachnids belong to phylum “Arthropods.”
