After releasing the micro crabs in their new home I haven't seen much of them at all. So I started to wonder if they were still alive...

    Thai micro crabs are cool but yes they are very good at hiding and will also bury themselves into the substrate to hide. I've found they don't like bright light at all so I created a dark section with plants and rock. Which is where i see them out the most.

  • @KaiserToons
    @KaiserToons Жыл бұрын

    Thai Micro Crabs are nocturnal and prefer the roots and lower steps of bunched plants such as rotala indica and java fern. They also seem to be somewhat filter feeders but also bit pickers like cherry shrimp, which puts them in competition with cherry shrimp. Odds are a good number of them died as the vegetation doesn't provide the right ecosystem, I have a much better success with them in mixed vegetation aquariums where there are clear areas like that but plenty of wood and bunch plant backgrounds. I personally think they might do better in the first aquarium you showed us with the water change, plenty of roots for them to forage in and rocks and wood to burrow in.

    Those crabs are purely nocturnal so you need to watch them with a blue RGB light or moon light on your tank to get the best results. They are kinda of a little side addition to have with shrimp. If you see them yay! If not oh well.

    1. Make it more wabi kusa style and call it a day 2. Shrimp tank with secret inhabitants 😂 3. Move them to a fish bowl, with immersed plants up top, and lots of roots, thin sticks coming down, think Serpa did something like that. Gives lot more visibility. I must say, I got very excited seeing the first video, these critters aren't covered much , would love my own ❣️

    Heads up people… Don’t add sand to a tank with your filter running, not only is this a way for sand to enter the filter and damage the impeller but also for sand to stick to the biofilm on your expensive glassware and cause scratches when you clean them with pipe brushes..

  • @MrTheWaterbear
    @MrTheWaterbear Жыл бұрын

    I love those little guys, though. You really NEED a tank with a ton of floating plants and a ton of crabs to see them during the day - they prefer hanging out in the roots of floating vegetation if it’s dense enough :) Also, for me, they usually came out around feeding time. At least they have that much going for them, regardless of setup. Might take them a little while to get comfortable enough, but they should get better with time.

    First, your tanks are so nice👍🏽. Crazy how your artist re scape your tanks and completely tear them down. I feel like tanks look better in time but I’m no aqua scape artist. I was planning on making a tank with an underground cave system for those crabs and maybe it will trick them into not being so shy. Also, above the cave I would like to add vampire crabs that would go in and out of the water🤷🏽 along with plenty of live plants of course🥰

I fully intend on getting more, but not for a while. I'm wondering others' opinions on this? My guy seems to be happy and thriving but he is a bit aggressive towards my panda Corys. When I add more, should I take the pandas out, or will the aggressive behavior even out between a shoal? I originally got them to clean up after the puffers. They're such messy eaters! Lol.
