Interesting fact that during that battle the French were capable of destroying more panzer tanks and losing less of their own tanks and the French had more tanks than the Germans at that time.

French had better tanks in general. And according to the battle... It was a draw. Both of them had about 600 tanks in the first day and lost about 200 after the battle. However the French was the side to retreat so the Germans took the battleground and could repair most of their tanks

@@Clayton.Ayes but ever wondered why it was alone? The rest of its company got taken out by Germany anti tank guns earlier during the battle. The Char B1 was an impressive tank when looking at it in a 1 on 1 closed of scenario, but it definitely suffered in a lot of other aspects. The same aspects all french tanks suffered from: bad support and no radio. German tanks were inferior in armor and firepower, but they had field radios and were supported by better artillery and aircraft

@@Clayton.A ok then try to command a huge vehicle, fire and reload the main gun and communicate with other tanks (which have small anti infantry guns and won't be able to pen anything) with FLAGS. The french idea of a tank was obsolete and it showed in their designs with most being large slow, not having radios and the commander having to do multiple jobs which often resulted in him not looking at the battlefield (cuz he had to operate the gun) and the much more coordinated germans outflanking them and penning the sides.

My late grandfather was in the 1er Régiment de Dragons Portés / 2nd Mechanized Light Division / 1st Army that saw action in the double battle of Hannut / Gembloux. Never talked much about the war to my father. He recalled that he had twicked an Hotchkiss tank so that it could drive faster and that it had been evacuated at Dunkirk 'sur un superbe navire de ligne anglais' ie 'on a very fine British liner' (TSS Tynwald according to its military papers). The regiment spent two days in Weymouth in England to recover as they had not slept since start of the German offensive and then was sent back to the front line in France via night shipping to Cherbourg. His regiment was partially re-equipped and fought a delaying battle at one division against three until the armistice was signed on the 21st of June 1940. My grandfather survived the campaign but his squadron's commander, a captain and a WWI veteran, did not have this chance and got killed in May. One of the 100,000 French soldiers who would never come back from the Campaign of the West 1940 either KIA, dying from wounds or as POW.

Great work! However is it because you did not have any S35 available that you used R35s instead? There was an amazing 'lego' S35 on the market (Coby or something) but when I contacted them it was not made anymore. Too bad you had to use an infantry support Renault R35 tank instead of the cavalry tank SOMUA S35 that distinguished itself during the battle of Hannut. Despite its turret and lack of radio flaws, the S35 could take any German tank. Most were lost due to the Luftwaffe, lack of fuel, mechanical breakdown and scuttling at Dunkirk.

That hit by the 20mm shell of the Panzer II would not have been able to penetrate the 40mm of armor on the Renault R35 at any range. That there is a historical inaccuracy. So a friendly reminder for future videos, it is best to not make this mistake again.

And who said that it was the shell from P2? )) 600 tanks from each side... I showed random shots and random penetrations - except the parts where 2 tanks on one screen

@@LCMhistory I’m only saying that because this video is for enthusiasts of this sort of thing, a lot of people take this at face value. They will believe that what is shown is exactly what the battle was like. Perhaps saying at the beginning “some things may be inaccurate” may give a friendly reminder to those who don’t take the time to analyze the footage that it’s not 100% accurate. . . I’m not hating on the video. I’m just doing my due diligence as a historian here. (Not to mention the Panzer II would not have been firing single shots from an autocannon)(I’ve heard that from plenty of sources that it would not have done that - including testimony from German veterans in the past).

Excellent video @LCM! The trap in Belgium involved many of Germany's lighter tanks (PzKw I, PzKw II) to decieve the French in thinking this was the main invasion. The bulk of the German armor (incl. PzKw III and IV and PzKw 38 tanks) was in the main attack out of the Ardennes. The Germans had three advantages despite the French having numerical superiority. First, the Germans concentrated their armor while the Allies dispersed their own armor (except for the mechanized cavalry sent to Belgium and the four provisional tank divisions recently formed); second the German armored doctrine (Blitzkrieg) had been tested and updated in Poland the year before while the French were still learning how to use their tanks: third, the German's thirst to avenge the defeat of 1918 and their failure to capture Paris which motivated their troops. The French were tired, dispirited and mentally were not ready for the Germans out-thinking them. Well done! Loved it!

That's the main point of the video - Germans had radios and could coordinate their attack. And French had nothing except red flags and it was really hard to see the command

@@LCMhistory those tank crews used flag to guide tank is a very bad idea, if Germany army send snipers team to there, French forces will lose too many unnecessary casualties.
