    Actually the chaos globe design is hard to control because that style of design is intended to be controlled by varying the speed of each pair of wheels instead of simply turning one set or both sets on.

    For the omnidirectional one, you might want to try using omni wheels. They're wheels with perpendicular wheels around their circumference. In FIRST robotics, we used these for a "halonomic" drivetrain, which had very little pushing power but perfect omnidirectional travel. If you look at robots that balance on spheres, they often use the same thing so that the wheels don't fight against each other

  • @chrismichaelyoung

    @chrismichaelyoung

    Жыл бұрын

    my team's robot used mecanum wheels, very similar to omni but the rollers are set at an angle to allow for torque in every direction while maintaining typical tank-style controls and layout with added strafing. being in FIRST i'm sure you've at least seen these. although i'd agree for this application, omni wheels would likely work better.

    angry pete and chaos globe were created to compete and they knew it, never wanting more than to be the winner of the next sumo match or obstacle course. but 2 was different, 2 felt that even with its superior agility it wasn't made to just win simple challenges, it wanted to experience the world for what it was. traveling from the safety of the place it was created 2 was determined to go find its true meaning, even if it meant never going back home. it wandered fields and forests, not caring how grimy its bubble became. eventually it made it down to a beach, where it wandered along the shoreline observing the world around it. truly, 2 felt at peace.

    This may be a bit outside of the intent, but I'd like to see Angry Pete set up with each hemisphere able to turn separately. If you make him just ever so slightly wider - probably only one or two studs - you should be able to accomplish this. This will give him a zero-turn radius, and it should make him the easiest to control.

  • @sleepingcity85

    @sleepingcity85

    Isnt this the same concept as Number 2?

  • @JayRussellDuramax

    @JayRussellDuramax

    Жыл бұрын

    @@sleepingcity85 I don't think so. Number 2 does have a zero-turn radius, but it accomplishes that having omnidirectional control over which way the sphere rolls. What I'm describing would be similar, except each hemisphere is controlled separately. So, that means that, unlike Number 2, it would have to pivot to change directions while stopped. This would allow turning while moving to be much easier, as you can simply speed up or slow down one hemisphere to turn the sphere. Did that make sense?

  • @leyrua

    @leyrua

    Жыл бұрын

    @@JayRussellDuramax a small problem with this design: a sphere already has only a tiny point of contact with the ground for traction. This would divide that footprint in half. • @JayRussellDuramax

    @JayRussellDuramax

    @@leyrua On the contrary: When the two halves are snapped together, they are stiffer, and thus they essentially have a point contact. This is A W E S O M E ! Loved every bit of it - the engineering, giving a personality to the bots, the video editing, everything is top notch. I am astonished to see a low number of views for this classy video.

    I love how your videos always go somewhere above and beyond just the Legos. Like in the chain video the psychedelic outro was really cool, and in this video Number 2's trip was awesome too. Keep up the amazing work!

    Chaos globe might do with some IMU feedback to allow for a consistent "forward" direction. You could allow that forward angle to change based on joystick input and make it control like an RC car similar to the others. More complicated, but it might end up being the most versatile.

    Recommendation: You should make another one of these, but make it watertight and have it somehow use external fins/propellers to move itself across water. I think that would be really cool too see! Maybe even make it so you can control the gopro inside the sphere so you can view anything under water!

    Great video. I love the ideas you used. I think Chaos Globe could be amazing if there was some way to add a compass like magnet to it. Something to keep it facing north? This would fix the handling issue. 🤷‍♂️

    Just a thought but maybe try testing them in water to see if they can float and move in the water also maybe add tape to the edges where the two side of the container meet To create a water tight seal so they don't drown. Just an idea.

    Genius vidéo, it’s awesome how you create some lore just by adding challenges to complete by your creations, that kind of melancholic ending was very welcomed, and your humor works very well in this video, so a big bravo for that. However I’m not a fan of the new editing of the building process, it was a bit too fast and not very clear how you were building the robots, and there’s some weirdness in the songs editing like the volume and when a song ends. Otherwise really great video I absolutely enjoyed it!
