So you've basically just made the frame of a CNC out of (mostly) LEGO. From this, you can flip it upside down and replace the magnet with a motor and drill bit to complete that, or if you mount that whole assembly higher, you can add a platform that moves along the Z-axis to make a 3D printer. I feel like the LEGO would melt if left near a hot end, though...

But this one here has everything. Do you ever reveal the actual time spent building? Do you share your design thoughts and processes? Although I realize that you get sponsors donating parts etc. How much do you think it would cost to make, say, this sand drawing machine, or maybe something a little simpler?

The one thing I'm curious about is how the metal parts and the plastic parts interact. I have seen cases where metal parts end up destroying plastic parts. Doesn't make much difference if it's just something short lived like I suspect this is. But if you set this up to continuously run, it could end up failing faster than you expect.

The original Sisyphus sand art device uses a central polar axis that rotates a linear rail for distance from center so the whole device can also be a compact circle barely larger than the sand surface.

Yeah that's a very cool way to do it, no doubt, but this one can handle rectangle and square mirrors too, and have bounds that aren't only circular. A different take on a similar concept, for sure! Thanks for bringing it up!

I am now trying to piece together a way to make this ridged enough to use as a 3d printer? we already have two axis's Z wouldnt be too hard to implement...now getting the controler to recognize G-Code movements that would be the part Id struggle with

As a great ball contraption builder, metal parts are amazing. But there’s just something about abs dust that makes the hobby more “real”.

Thank you! Although, I wasn't trying to make an illusion haha. Those screws are actually meant to fit in that black block with a hole cut out of it.

That is cool! Especially the piece separator and the mirror's back and the Lego rake 😂 Can you also program a random mode within the boundaries of the mirror? Or draw certain functions?

@@BrickMachines1 Maybe I should mention: The Lego 8094 was one of my first models. The steering mechanism was the first kind of programable device before mindstorm came around and it taught me A LOT about simple mechanics and the way a CNC works. I spend hours with it as a little boy 🤗🤗🤗👍 good old days!
