Just bought one of these several weeks ago. This is my first full sized multi tool, I like the fact that I can edc this like my usual folding knife but have the extra functionality of the tools. Great review.👍

The entire Skeletool line are really great. They offer some extra functionality in a compact and slim frame. My personal favorite of this group is probably the Skeletool CX. I love the standard 154cm blade on that model.

I've had mine for years. Just a fantastic every day carry tool. I never leave home without it. The CX model with full blade is the way to go. This Leatherman fits perfectly in your pocket. Great review. Thanks for sharing.

You should watch Magnus Andersson’s videos on serrations. It’ll change your mind about combo edges. I used to hate serrations thinking that they were worthless for anything but cutting seatbelts but then I came across Magnus and gave serrations a try in the woods and now I won’t leave home without at least one blade that has either a combo or fully serrated edge. Magnus showed that serrations can make finer feather sticks, can be used as a saw in a pinch, dig in faster for notching, cut joints better when processing game, and all kinds of other awesome uses. They will also cut long after a plain edge has dulled. Even if you prefer not to have it on your main blade I’d still recommend that you keep at least one serrated blade with you at all times just in case something happens where serrations will be more useful

I always have a serrated blade on me with the Surge, and use it often. I just don’t particularly like combo blades. I prefer full length of both blades personally.

I must admit I bought this mostly for the bottle opener. I did go for the CX model bc im a knife lover & $15 was worth it for the better steel.

Informative and entertaining review as usual, thanks. As part of your thorough and experience based reviews the cutting function of pliers always gets addressed well. To enhance them I'd suggest a good overall consistent reference for reviews would be to have some common standard gauge wires and talk through ability to and quality of cut. That would allow some perspective comparison on different size and class MTools. Also, if you're looking for a changeup consider doing a review on a retired tools. Leatherman have many and they are still available on the used market. e.g. PST, PST II, Mini Tool, Super Tool various gens etc. Alternatively, a classic vs new e.g. PST II vs Rebar. Thanks again 👍

I've owned the 'Basic' Skeletool since 2009. Recently (2023) I treated it to a new 154CM blade and combo window breaker - 1/4 bit. Since I treated it as a light duty tool it is as tight as the day I bought it.

Are the plier head and cutters holding up? I suppose if they don’t Leatherman should honor the warranty. I have one coming soon.

I have two of these keep one on me all the time an the other as back up. This tool will be with me longer than the warrenty. I will be sad if it breaks an have to send it off but dont plan on breaking it. Wish leatherman would allow the user to send back for a better steel in blade cause ur right about the serrations i really dont see the need for them other than cutting rope. Thanks for the great review mr. Ben

Anthony Walthes I really wish they made a base version of this that had the standard blade as well. I think a lot of people would rather have a standard 420HC blade as opposed to the half serrated version.

I have one of the older models, so mine came with a straight edge 420hc instead of a combo edge. Heard that the first CX's had a combo 154cm, so that's kind of a twist :)

I don't like combo blades as they're just shy of useless, but I carry a separate pocket knife anyway so I'd be tempted by the rescue version with the fully serrated blade. If I'm gonna carry a tool with an extra blade, a little more capability is a good thing. If it was my only knife though, I'd have to go straight edge CX as well.

With the juice discontinued I have been looking at these. Need a pocket sized for mtb. I bet a straight edge(420) version would outsell the serrated. With a bit kit, and backed up with a sak I’d be set for work or play.

I know this is late to the video. I have used this tool for years. I farm and mechanic. It is great other than one big flaw. If you squeeze too tight, there is a rivet in to handle that shears off. It then renders the pliers inoperable. I have tried to get this across ever time I send it in. Is there any way you can get this across to them?

Big fan of the Skele. I use the CX model myself. I’m on my second. I will say this though, the main blade is pretty thick. To get it to keep a decent edge I had to profile the edge and it was work. Other than that, fantastic tool.

I just picked this up a few days ago. It's a very minimalist approach. Like yourself, I'm not a fan of combo-blades. But due to the fact that it is billed as a minimalist tool, I understand and accept Leatherman's reasoning for it. This is why I got this over the CX with the straight blade. Apart from the price difference, you would loose the functions of a serrated blade which definitely have their place. When paired up with my PS4, you're in function city! I'm not ditching my Surge or my Wave, but when you're going fast and light, it's the bizzo!

And on keys I have Squirt PS4 and I use that litle thing more that I thought. But Squirt is stupid expensive 55€ and Skeletool CX 140€ and classic 90€ I paid CX 50€ on sail
