Leatherman Should Have This Feature In All Of Their Multi Tools!

Now more than just a one off custom, the adjustable plier head from Leatherman should be incorporated across all of their platforms in my opinion. This joint allows the end user to adjust the preferred plier tension, thereby offering a much better user experience.

I have had to get rid of 3-4 pairs of side cutters (including a LM wave) becuase of cutting stranded core wire and getting a tiny bit of strand getting in between the heads near the pivot and making them virtually impossibel to use. Being able to loosen them to get the debris out would be a major improvement.

I think, if it's patented, it will help them...HOWEVER this joint...as you said, only brings them up to as good as Victorinox. They need to release 2 updated versions of both the surge and wave with better toolsets.

There's a KZread video where the guy takes a bolt and hammer and smacks the center round part of the pivot and it instantly frees it up. It moves an imperceptible amount but legitimately seems to work. He says his stiffens up after cutting hardwire too and this is his solution.

I've had some recent leatherman tools and the pivot is annoyingly stiff on both of them. That adjustable pivot would be amazing.

I hope they'll include that feature in the Arc , i don't understand how come the pivot been an issue for so long when Victorinox seem to get it just right out of the box ... And hopefully the Arc won't sell out in a matter of seconds either ...

What's your thoughts on the discontinuation of the Leatherman Squirt, Micra and Style PS ? Do you think Leatherman will make a new mini multitool to replace all the discontinued models ?

I'm hoping that the arc will have the adjustable pivot it seems it would save leatherman some money on broken pliers that come in for warranty for example if you broke the tip off one of the Jaws just that side would have to be replaced but manly that it allows the user to tighten the pliers to what works for them

if the plier gets stiffer after cutting steel wire, maybe the cutter is damaged, you can remove the cutter and smooth the damaged point by using sand paper, or maybe just order new cutter. I'm mot sure if adjustable pivot joint is a good idea because I don't see any professional pliers on the market have this figure

I think we now know what the point of the Darkside was - essentially a proof of concept for a serviceable pivot for the pliers. I don't think Leatherman would have put the springs on the pliers of Garage #5 and the Arc. The springs will break, and it would be economic insanity to have to trash an otherwise serviceable tool just to "fix" the broken spring. With the pivot they tested on the Darkside, LM's service people can just open the joint, replace the spring and send the tool back to the customer.

Also - very disappointed that I didn't get a chance at the 40 yr anniversary release from the garage. Would sure like to own one.

Exchangable bits should be on every single leatherman. There's no excuse anymore. It's superior and allows you to use the ratchet which in and of itself is a game changer Also, they need to seriously stop making those hex bits that only connect on two edges. The amount of nuts i stripped is insane.

Hey Ben: Jon Gadget KZread channel has a video today about Leatherman Garage #5. He said he got his late yesterday - but he had to promise not to talk about it until today - which means he had to order his yesterday or earlier. That goes against what I heard that it had to be ordered today July 5th. The way things are going at Leatherman you probably don't want them to have your payment card data anyways. I personally don't want to buy anything until it's been proven in the hands of many people who have bought and used the product. I guess I wouldn't be a good business owner because I don't want to take a chance on employees and buying something that would take months or a year before I got the product. I read some of the comments for your video and the guy who commented on the coating of the pliers (Leatherman darkside) had a good point. Glad to see you are okay for today at least.

The thing about the lm garage is most people can't buy it because people buy them up to sell on ebay. Kinda useless and it irritates me that no new tools are actually accessible to the public. Leatherman angers me lately. Gerber may suck in quality but at least they make new things!

  • @PetesGuide

Only 25 seconds into the video, but two points: 1) I agree with you. 2) The only reason this exists is because of the coating being applied to the plier head. #2 is based on a statement of a Learherman employee in a factory tour on the Essential Craftsman channel: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aoqnj6mIfczIZ9Y.html Garage starts at the 8;50 mark and DLC coating at 9;50

I feel like a company would just slap a T15 or T20 on to the pivot screw and call it good, no one can have a patent on it, and it's a better head than the flathead if leatherman can even get a patent on it. Using a screw for a pivot isn't a new or innovative idea, so I don't know if they could even get a patent on it, but spyderco has a patent on a literal hole, so anythings possible.
