Hey Lindie, i'm your fan. What about learn portuguese language? Brazil has a lot of tongs and dialects that could be very funny to learn. Also, you can watch a lot of things in portuguese and talk with a lot of people and different identities. Brazil is a country different from the others. Could be a great idea. See you! Até Mais!

Hi Lindie, I've been learning Thai for a couple of months already and It's so fun, please don't give up I'm rooting for you. I know there are so my things to learn as a beginner especially reading which can feel overwhelming due to the number of rules in tone and writing but I promise it's so fun and worth it. I started with Thai pod for the alphabet as well. However, I then decided to take classes on Itaki to properly learn how to read as there are so many things like tips and tricks that a native Thai speaker can give you that many videos do not mention or you would have to discover on your own and may not be obvious and make Thai a bit more overwhelming due to the limited resources that may be out there. I'd like to give you a couple of tips as Thai beginner and wish you the best of luck in your Thai studies สู้ๆ. Please do not overwhelm yourself you can do this!!! TIPS :) 1) To be able to properly pronounce you need to be able to read and recognize all letters, therefore in my opinion, I believe learning the whole alphabet along with names of tone marks is the 1st thing to tackle. 2) Thai romanization to English is honestly one of the worst I’ve seen. I recommend you instead create your own sound assimilations with other languages. As a Spanish and English speaker and Korean and French learner, I have been able to recognize some of these sounds and translate some of these languages’ sounds into Thai (especially the vowels) 3) Once you have mastered the alphabet you should move then to learning the class of each consonant. Ore you could also do this at the same time you learn all consonants but sometimes it may be a little overwhelming due to the number of consonants 4) After you have mastered these you will be able to learn the tone rules much faster as depending on the class of the consonant and type of vowel these change. It’s all about consonant class + ending sound. (just as a heads up, the tone mark overwrites the tone rules) 5) You’d need to get familiar with the many different ways that that can be written (different fonts) that are extremely common. For example: “น” can be written as “u” in a modern and quite a common font (I left a link to help with that in the resources below) I’d like to share with you some of the best resources I have found on the internet that has helped me improve much faster overall. 1) www.thai2english.com/ (The best and my personal favourite, I swear this is the one!! and I feel so lucky to have found this resource and would love to share it with you and the language learning community) This is a Thai English and vice versa dictionary but most importantly if you are still not able to recognize a Tone you can just type the world and it will help you identify the tone, it does have romanization but I just ignore that and use what I need. Please explore the many uses of this website. You can see how excited I am about this website hehe 2) rapidlearnthai.com/understanding-thai-modern-fonts/ (for modern font Thai) 3) kzread.info (she’s so good :) so much content to learn and her explanations are amazing) 4) kzread.infofeatured (she has Thai tone drills and explains these very well)

I started learning thai back in late 2019 bit I was not consistent 🥲 I've been dropping and coming back to it all throughout these more than 2 years. What helped me is that I learned the Thai alphabet entirely right from the beginning ( with the YT channel Kruu Waree all about Thai). I liked this Thai song called Everything (Thuk yang) by Scrubb and I used to copy it down every day for fun and I wrote the alphabet every morning too. I also learned the reading rules from the start. It paid off because now I don't need transliteration to read Thai anymore. Unfortunately I focused to much on the writing system and didn't practice my speaking/listening enough.😩 Now I can write and read but I can't speak. 🥲 I'm better at listening though because I watch Thai series a lot😅

Hi Lindie, As someone who lived and worked in Thailand and learned the language through immersion and KZread, its so exciting to see you doing self study of the language on your own! I found that BYU channel has some great videos for commonly used phrases that you will actually use in Thailand. I found that listening a bunch really helped me with tones. I know it can be difficult in the beginning but I found Thailand and the Thai language to have been such a blessing in my life. Thai people are so sweet and lovely and you can make some wonderful friends when you are able to communicate. I spent a month with a 70 year old Thai lady traveling together and meeting all her family and exploring the southern part of Thailand staying with locals because I was able to speak Thai

I started learning Thai about 6 months ago :) For the alphabet I used Thaipod101 in the beginning but for me the book „Read Thai in 10 Days“ worked so well! I did not manage the whole book in 10 days, but the way the letters were grouped and everything was explained worked so well for my brain. For tones I now have a little image in my head! As for Tones, BananaThai has a good explanation about Tones that she just uploaded recently on Thai :D Anyway, excited that you started Thai as well!

Just dropping by to thank you. I've been learning Finnish since 2015. I've visited twice so far, but I wasn't confident in my ability to speak it. But I finally started italki lessons about a year ago now, thanks to seeing one of your videos about Hungarian (up until that point I had been really stubborn about learning everything on my own), and last week I bought two One Line A Day journals to try to practice my Finnish and German with. I still find myself using English far more than I should during my lessons, but I'm trying. So thanks again for being an inspiration.

It's so fun to see people studying since we all do it differently. Two years ago I started learning french just like you study but in a class setting and I hated it. I'm autistic so I crave ✨️structure✨️ and I felt that was missing from that class which frustrated me because I saw my peers learning so much and even though I put the effort I still felt it wasn't enough. I stopped learning during the pandemic to concentrate on my mental health and recently returned to it but in my way. I'm heavily relying on grammar because it soothes that structure craving but I'm also learning vocabulary, common phrases, immersion and all that good ol' stuff.

Boy, I can totally empathize. I've been doing this about 4 years now. It does eventually get easier, but you need to build a basic vocabulary and get used to the backwards sentence structure. From big house to house big for example. Noun then Adjective.I tried to learn online for quite a while, but eventually start taking classes . Thai as a second language in Chiang Mai is a good one. TSL. Learn Thai with Mod is very good. I do love Thai podcast 101. Llingo for memorizing vocabulary. And Pimsleur is excellent for sentence structure. In fact, If there's one thing I would do over is start with complete sentences from the get-go. All I can say is every day do a little bit. It's damn frustrating though as it takes quite a while to even make basic progress. I still fall on my face quite often. Congratulations for taking on the task! I love it, but it's tough.

Wow!!! I'm doing almost the same with Russian. I started studying it from scratch last month. My goal for September was to learn the Cyrillic Alphabet... my plan for the next month is to learn it better and start to learn some simple phrases... I'm using Duolingo for that! I copy the sentece on my notebook and then I start to work changing the sentece with the words I already know or trasforming the sentece into negative one... things like that! Keep going! Can't wait to see your progress!💪🏻🤩👍🏻

I have studied this language. Even though I see lots of similarities with mandarin, which has tones, doesn't conjugate, combines monosyllabic words to create new words, and uses modal particles at the end of sentences to express feelings, the writing actually reminds me of French. The language reflects the etymology and words that get imported from other languages are written with Thai script that reflect how the word is pronounced in the source language. For example, the word "hamburger" requires you to write the Thai equivalent of the the letter r in the word but you will not pronounce the two rs in the Thai language because the Thai language simply does not have syllables that end with the r sound. So spelling in Thai, just like it is in French, is a nightmare. There are many consonant characters that have the same sound as well.

I am starting Thai in December! So excited that I will be on the same path as you!!! I live in Japan, so Thai has been floating around my outer circle for over a decade. I really got interested in Thai, however, when I worked at Tokyo Paralympics boccia venue. Thai is tops in boccia, so there was Thai everywhere. I was working in the languages team, and there were Thai speakers in our team, so I heard Thai every day. I thought it was beautiful. Then I had the most beautiful encounter with a Thai suport team member. Then Thailand produced a remake of Japanese drama, Hana Yori Dango, so I watched my first Thai drama. Then I fell down the BL wormhole. Then I discovered the music of Jeff Satur... So basically, a never-ending list of reasons to learn Thai. (Sorry Malay, you are going to have to wait a little bit longer.) I won't have free time until Japan's end of year vacation and I like to start with a deep-dive immersion, so I have to wait until then. PS, I have been missing your vids for months, since I watched from my work account which I never use any more. *sad face*

I was learning a bit of Thai a while back because I find the script beautiful. I stopped after a while since life got in the way. I should get back to it One KZread channel I watched was "Learn Thai Happily". Satang, the host pumps out a crazy number of videos. They are short and sweet. First few videos were a bit difficult, because the font used was difficult to read. But he switches it up in later videos and they became much better. Anyway, good luck with learning Thai!

Hello, Lindie! I'm from France and I really appreciate watching your videos even though I don't usually comments on people's video. But, when I've seen your video, I was so glad that you are learning new language and it's Thai! It's because, i'm half thai but since I was born In France and didn't learn it apart from picking some words, sentences with the help of my mother and of course lakorn / dramas and music, I don't really considered myself as a half thai person. Sorry, it's getting too long but yes, I'm with you, I'm learning not constantly but if I have a proper time, I think, I have to organize well, I should learning the language seriously haha. I also watched the same video with the alphabet haha, I also think it's quite complicate (but the difficult part is how to put together and to read them, sometimes it's simple sometimes it's not lol) but, I've found a video about a man who was living in Thailand I think, he recommended to know the important one first and If i'm not mistaken, to learn letters with a small group (like maybe with the video uou had watched). Wish you the best and a big cheer up for this new journey but also for other things! p-s: sorry for any mistake (especially english grammar) but hope you are able to understand what I wanted to convey.

What a coincidence Lindie... My mother tongue is Sundanese ᮘᮞᮞᮥᮔ᮪ᮄ, Javanese ꦚꦱꦗꦮ, and Indonesian🇮🇩. I learned english🇬🇧, japanese🇯🇵, korean🇰🇷, mandarin🇨🇳, arabic🇸🇦 and french🇫🇷, the fluency in each of those languages varies greatly. However I've been learning thai by myself as well for almost 2 weeks and when I'm looking for thai learning sources, your video pops up on my youtube homepage, it's quite unexpected tbh. You started to learn thai and so am I, it's absolutely getting me so excited to keep learning it. Goodluck Lindie❤️🫶🏻 I'll be looking forward your new video about your progress in learning thai🇹🇭

Hi Lindie! I don't know your Vietnamese level, but I know you're a fan of language stacking! I discovered a channel called Yêu Tiếng Thái that you may want to check out. She has a playlist for learning the Thai alphabet and I've been watching it to re-learn the Thai alphabet myself. I do struggle to understand what she is saying, but I still find it helpful since Thai and Vietnamese have similar sounds. I feel like my knowledge of Vietnamese is helping me connect the dots better 😊 of course the thaipod101 videos are great too! Good luck with your studies! Looking forward to your next video!
