I legit figured it all out myself last month, whatever you said about over scheduling in this video, but it's okay I've learnt my lesson and i wouldn't repeat the same mistake in med school n be a bit better at scheduling my tasks

    Amusing and spot-on. My secret, not mine, is that I'll work twice as hard and long and well when I know there's an excellent chance I'll succeed. That means I have to work to my strengths, which means I have to know them. It's the secret of successful schools, too - kids learn avidly, without discipline problems, when the teacher helps them individually based on their strengths and giving each one success experiences every day. Sound like sports coaching? No surprise, it is.

    Hey Justin, I have a question I need answered if you can afford the time. What are your thoughts on re-learning if you've already started wrong on a subject? Begin again from the start, using the techniques you teach? It hasn't been long enough and I'm at the middle and feel like my whole approach has been wrong anyway!

  • @TheCactuar124

    @TheCactuar124

    If you really care about that subject, the answer should be obvious.

    Not so obvious. I'm really quite dim you see. But I guess I'll test myself and see what I've really grasped and go from there. Thanks

  • @lucianop.3922

    @lucianop.3922

    Ай бұрын

    The answer is not obvious, but I think it's all about perspective and context. If you deem the subject really important, either because you want to learn it in-depth, because you know it will be in an exam and if you don't know then you'll lose a lot of points etc. etc., it might be a good idea to begin again from the start, since you have a lot of doubts and gaps about the subject and if you keep going, those will get bigger instead of smaller. However, if your current understanding is not super bad and you feel confident enough in what you've learned, maybe you can do something in-between: if you have notes you've taken using other approaches, try using them as a base for other approaches, like creating mind maps for example or creating mental images or mental association of each concept and key word in the subject, etc. etc. You don't HAVE to start all over again. It can be something in the middle: not starting all over again, and not keeping it completely the same way either.

  • @lucianop.3922
    @lucianop.3922Ай бұрын

    Another thing I see is that there's a lot of places for reflection. Reflecting is not bad in my opinion, but I think it's something that is better left off to come naturally and not in a kind of forced way of "oh, it's time to reflect, let's start reflecting". And to have the flexibility of letting it last whatever it lasts. That can help you feel more relaxed, chilled and focused for other activities.

    It's about choosing what you want to focus on. For example, instead of going to the gym two times a week, he could go only one time. Perhaps he won't get the body he wants as fast or as effectively as he'd like (that's the loss), but he will have more time to focus on the other activities and then be more effective on those. Conversely, he could sacrifice lectures for example and then use that time to go a third time to the gym, maybe for even better results. In general, it's about sacrificing expertise/time dedicated in one area to become more of an expert in another. It's a little bit like the saying "jack of all trades, master of none", in the sense that you try to become an expert and do well at everything, but because you are just human and cannot be excellent at everything, you end up failing in everything. Of course, it's not black or white, you can still be an expert in many areas, but this is the general idea.

    I think he means: be reasonable with the amount of time. Make estimations based on how much time it took you to complete similar activities in the past, and based on that, assign the double. The point is to keep in mind the unexpected things that may happen during your daily activities, but to not expand them to a point where there's so much free time that you can't fill said free time with anything (that's the other thing, ideally you have something specific planned for a frame of time, so you will finish it because you assigned a specific task to that time and you won't do anything less or anything more, and in the remaining time which you'll likely get unless a lot of unexpected stuff happens, just chill or do anything else, until the time for the next activity comes).

    I understand the doubling rule. But what about Parkinson's Law? Which states that work expands so as to fill the time available for it's completion. I'm terrible at estimating the amount of time a project is going to take to complete, so I've been recommended the doubling rule. But then Parkinson's law nags at me, wondering if I've created an environment to work slower.
