Bass player here but I think there's something special in the drums that attracts other musicians (who play armonic/melodic instruments). It's probably wrong but I feel like a guitarist would never look at a Basseo channel... 😆😢😇

Since I'm not a drummer I never realized this song has such nuances and complexities in the drum role, seeing Chad do it so naturally and Brandon not so much at first (until he nailed it at the end, in my opinion) really made me appreciate this drum role in the general awesomeness of this song :) Really interesting to watch, way to go (I'm a bassist BTW, so of course I love this song)

The production quality on these videos is insane. I can't imagine the work and experience behind making this work this well.

lol yeah. i wonder if it was because the video was out of sync with the audio. or they just bumped the time up so there's a less noticeable lag in the convo. or the direct feed looks better than watching the video from the tv monitor. maybe a mix of all those and more

It is always interesting when a top drummer like Chad breaks down what to the ear may seem simple but turns out to be complex in the most subtle ways. He's one of the all time greats.

When Chad told Brandon he was playing with T-Hawk's sticks, I made an audible gasp. What an honor all around.

After 30 years of hearing this song I just realized that John’s riff is indeed AC/DC’s Back in Black!

B 7:59 being welcomed in at Chad’s house after showing up and saying “I need a drum lesson” is a dream haha

As a bass players I really appreciate the drums in this one as the bass and kick drum follow each other really closely. Flea and Chad you rock!!!!

Just goes to show you how much feel and swing can add to a song. Brandon did great, but Chad just has the absolute sauce.

dang I never realized how much of a John Bonham inspired groove this is. Hearing Chad playing parts of it without music I can really hear it. so cool. that was fun.

The Red Hot Brazilian tribute band part really got me. 😂

This is the most fun, laid-back entertainment I've had on KZread in a LONG time. This type of content is absolute gold and separates the good from the epic. Drumeo, while these productions are surely expensive, they matter. A great deal. BRAVO!

The confidence in that final take, you looked and sounded like a different drummer. Crushed it!

On the final play-through, about a third of the way through, it was *obvious* that you loosened up, got into playing *the song* and emoted more. That was a great lesson in itself.

I don’t play an instrument but it was really cool to see this. Chad is a premiere example of why people LOVE their favorite musicians! Incredible mastery of his lifelong passion that has deservedly led to a massively comfortable life… so humble, generous and super cool.

Bro, that was awesome! And Drumeo made me realize that Chad Smith is the drummer I aspire to be. I'd literally kill for those skills.

Biggest takeaway from this i definantly to play it with conviction. Once youve got the basics down, everything will take care of itself. Just gotta play it like you own It. That should be the mantra for every song you play, regardless of genre.

This episode made me subscribe. Chad is such an icon to me and I am 63. He has such a great presence on the drums that his entire personality comes out in his performance. For him to take the time to help you says a lot about his character. Good job!

This video was so awesome to watch for so many reasons. Firstly, Chad is so kind and hilarious while also being a master at his craft. I love that Brandon wanted to stay to true to the original but did what felt right for him in the end. You were so much more relaxed at his house and it felt more like a jam session than a strict lesson. I’m lovingly jealous of all the portraits on the wall, especially the one of Bonzo’s face right in front, such a rare candid. I cried at the mention of you playing with Taylor’s sticks because who wouldn’t. So much love and respect for Brandon and Chad, just two reasons why drummers will always have my heart 🫶🏼🥁

The storyline is very strong, it shows how even for a 'simple' song there is an ocean of nuance in its performance, how much the details and the vibe (so hard to capture both) matter to the original musician that wrote the part and finally you beautifully display the exchange of so much more through this learning than just drum stuff, it's so human. Hearing Chad talk about a specific bar and how when they wrote it he’s talking about doing a type of AC/DC Chorus…..legit the knowledge and his memories of it are so deep. It would be fantastic to hear his breakdown of his favourites and what they were thinking. Just a well of knowledge. I love how he’s a hard ass, but a hard ass who is totally in your court. But you get the sense that you gotta have the skill to even be in the same court. 😂😂😂

There's so much to love about this video! Chad Smith always comes off as such a down-to-earth guy with a great sense of humor (must be some of that Will Ferrell influence 🙂). I just love how he explains his writing process of certain drum parts (e.g., trying to match Frusciante's AC/DC vibe on certain parts), and even acknowledging that his approach to playing the song live has evolved over the years and may not match the original recorded version. Finally, he's able to explain many of his parts like a masterful teacher. But Bro, how could you forget the drum faces? 🙂
