Learning Offshore Sailing all over again. Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 264

Our first overnight sail with The Little Nugget! We've sailed a lot of miles on Delos in all sorts of conditions ranging from flat calm to storm force winds. But now with only two people and a baby onboard we need to learn to sail differently. We need to find a way to keep watch, get some rest, prepare food, and of course take care of Sierra all at the same time! After a middle of the night departure we find some wind, unfurl the sails, and set out West for a few hundred miles of downwind sailing.
Sending Lot's of Love and hope you guys enjoy the video.- Capt. Brian, Kazza, and The Little Nugget

After following you for 5 years as I sailed 75,000 miles myself, sadly losing my wife of 46 years two years ago, I am greatly enjoying the new family at sea version of Delos. I thought the hard drinking and rowdy early years were great but... Having raised our two kids on two long and generally lazy circumnavigations, and now being joined on my new Oyster 745 by my kids and grandchildren for another slow go round I really appreciate all your issues with the Nugget and sailing as a couple. We are stuck in Indonesia by the pandemic but are comfortable and well supplied. Be safe. Be well and make the most of this magical time in your lives.

Your new credo is "to err on the side of caution". When you had a crew of 5 or 6 adults, you could plan more challenging sails and ignore most weather patterns. Now, keeping family safe may mean less excitement under sail but more time to enjoy each other without the stresses of hard passages. We are invested in your new life. I, for one, don't expect sword gripped in the teeth, mind blowing content. I am here to witness a young family making a life of passages and growing together. Love u guys.

You guys might want to consider getting a catamaran, so it will be a little more comfortable for Sierra and let Brady and blu take over Delos. I think it would be great to watch a video from you guys one week and Brady and blu the next. But don’t split into two separate channels, keep it all on this channel. Seeing two different perspectives from different locations on the same channel would be amazing. You guys would be the first to do something like this, I personally think it would make for an amazing channel. Ve con Dios. Remember the most important thing ......... “WE before ME” Love your channel Been watching your show/channel for many many revolutions!!!!

Children tend to accept the world as you present it to them. Little Sierra will love sailing as it will be most of what she knows as most of her life. The real test will come as she gets older to see if that love maintains :) Either way, don't worry too much, I'm willing to bet the two of you will present her with an awesome childhood :)

Some other sailing channels I recommend: Sailing Uma- electric motor on a budget Sailing Emerald Steel- older couple living in San Diego on a steel boat they built themselves in the 80s RAN Sailing- Swedish couple, just had a baby How To Sail Oceans- one guy on a small boat with no engine, he sails all over the place on $16k/yr Sailing Soulianis- couple starting out on their first sailing adventure. Distant Shores- OG of sailing VLOGS. have been making syndicated TV programs about their adventures since the 90s, now also have a youtube channel. There are many more sailing channels and most are very good.

Hope you two and a half are in this for the long haul. You've already seen the lighter side of life with pretty much doin anything you want on the seas, and now your dialed in for the family life. Watched your channel from the get go and it's super cool to see ya all grow with each new experience. We're gonna love to watch you 3 grow on your new journey with the Nugget, and watching her grow up on a sailboat is gonna be the best part of all. Not takin anything away from your channel, but La Vagavond has their little one growing up and it's super fun to watch the little ones spread their wings. Stay strong and don't give up your journey, you'll never regret it.

I found you guys a year or so ago and invested about 100 hours watching all your episodes and blogs. I have nothing but immense respect for you. However, while I love to sail, I tuned in primarily for the “escapism” factor that you guys provided, along with good sailing/maintenance tips. I especially loved your seasons in the Indian Ocean and along the Skeleton Coast of South Africa. Unfortunately the last several episodes haven’t delivered in these aspects at all. I really hope you add some adventure (land, sea, whatever)and some more technical sailing advice. And some crew. Although you don’t know me, I feel that I know you from these videos (which you ask us to watch for your income from KZread/Patreon) and so I hope you find a way to incorporate the things that enticed me to watch in the first place. Thanks and fair winds.

I believe the little nugget is going to cause you to make a few changes on the boat and its really going to be fun seeing what Brian comes up with. Best of luck, stay safe and healthy. Oh and by the way you know some of us armchair sailors will probably bring to your attention if you are doing something that we may think is not in the best interest of Sierra. So just keep an open mind, listen and go ahead and do what you think is best. You know some folks just try to find something to bitch about. Take care.

4:55 If I had a boat I'd name it "Rick O'Shay" Years ago I went with my dad on his boat down the San Francisco Bay to see the Blue Angles perform for Fleet Week. We were on the south (City) side of Alcatraz with a huge number of other boats. Dad was trying to set the anchor and I was driving the boat but due to the current and a failure to communicate (due to noise) we lost the anchor. So we just slowly motored with just enough speed to have steerage while all the boats that were at anchor crashed into each other as the tide and currents changed. We ended up being better off because we could watch the air show while still watching enough to avoid collisions. And there were LOTS of boats. That is where I got the idea for "Rick O'Shay" My mother (who actually owned the boat) Wanted to name it "Saxon Violence" but dad wouldn't let her. It was a good story how mom ended up owning dad's boat (it was not a divorce prize. My parents never divorced)

I would like to suggest if you haven't yet to find and take a good first aid course that includes infants. Years ago while sailing we had a 2 year old boy on board that choked on an apple slice. He survived. He at one point was blue before dislodging the piece of apple. No one onboard was trained on how to properly help the boy. His dad finally inverted him and wacked him on the back hard enough to pop that chunk out and save him. We were miles from any help. As captain it was something I had not considered. I will never forget it. You guys are an inspiration to me and many others Im sure. I always have lower blood pressure after watching your videos. Stay safe, have fun. Thanks JP

When baby’s are teething they secrete an enzyme that breaks down the tissue so the teeth can emerge. Sometimes this enzyme goes through the digestive system and does the same thing at the end. This causes severe diaper rash! The hospital where I worked made a paste of Philips Milk of Magnesia and baking soda and it was like magic how soon it would make the rash disappear! Hope this helps if the need ever arises. Thank you for the great videos!

Greetings from Nepal. Salute your courage for sailing with small cute baby. I found picture of Lord Budhha on your yatch. Also Lord Ganesh inside one of the rooms something significant. Wish you all the best and safety always.
