SPLASHED! Our Destination? Sailing North until it gets cold! - Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 291

I like how Brian described it- “It doesn't matter where we go, but step 1 is to untie the lines and just go somewhere, anywhere.” After 2 weeks of hard labor the day is finally here and our home is going back into the water :) Being back feels absolutely AMAZING! After a big provisioning it’s time to set sail, but first we need to figure out where to go. . And that’s exactly what we did! We made a rough plan to sail north until it gets cold. We go through the narrow C&D canal and get a visitor out in the middle of nowhere :p
If you enjoy the videos you can become part of our Delos PATRON tribe. With lots of cool perks and opportunities to come sailing, check it out! www.patron.com/svdelos

I've been watching y'all for nearly 10 years. I'm an old salt. I live in coastal S.C. and have been a world sailor in the past. Having Crossed the Indian Ocean the Pacific and Atlantic....I grew up near Cape May (17 Miles north at Stone Harbor) watching you go there brings back many fond memories. Fair winds and calm seas Delos...wherever you go. And take care of that adorable nugget.

One thing I have learnt in my 52 years on this planet is the fact that if you are a nice warm hearted person that is super chilled, that same warm heartedness tends to find its way back to its source. Do good to others and be a great example and others will do good to you (in most cases). Love the content. I zoomed forward a bit to watch this episode. I am still catching up. I am at episode 210 or so at the moment after watching them all over a 4 months period or so every evening when I unwind and chill. There is so much wrong in this world. Watching this channel gives us all hope. Take care, be safe and pop into Port Elizabeth next time you come zooming down or up the South African coast.

Hey guys! Loved the video especially when it brings back memories of being there done that. C&D Canal O dark 30, at the helm of some guys 30 foot sailboat with his friend next to me. Owner was below with his 2 young sons. When it's dark and with no radar, this is in late 80s, it was really hard to tell which way the canal bend, looked like a dead end with all the lights. We met a tug pushing a bardge and the guy next to me says, man I'm glad I'm not steering. I was nervous for sure. Worked that area on a tugboat for a couple years. Y'all stay safe and thanks again 👍👍⛵❤

Too damn cool! I've been through the C&D, my brother worked at Shaffer, my parents lived on the canal and the beer delivery was over the top. We honeymooners in a B&B across from Shaffers at Chesapeake City. Were on Cape Cod and have a home near Newport. We've been following for a while but when you're in our back yard it's special. Thank you

That was a surprise to get a call from someone in an inflatable boat, saying that they were coming out to meet you! But it's not that odd. A couple years ago Sailing UMA had a meet-up in Brooklyn. They had originally planned it to be on the NJ side of the Hudson. I decided to go to the meet-up from central NYS. But just before heading that way, they had to change to a marina on the east side of the Hudson River. Well, I have a 17' Perception Eclipse kayak that is meant to be very sea worthy. So I decided to bring it with me and paddle across the Hudson to the meet-up in Brooklyn. In a straight line it was only a couple/few miles and I have done twice that in one trip on my local Finger lake. So I figured "No problem!" to paddle over to see Kika and Dan. Problem was I had NEVER paddled anywhere that there was current. Ends up along with current flowing toward the ocean as well as a 15+ mph head wind, it was a much longer paddle than I figured it to be. Ends up I turned around when I hit the 2/3rds point. That 1/3rd more would have gotten me to the meet-up just as it was ending. Then if I stayed any amount of time it would have been getting dark as I paddled back to NJ from Brooklyn. It was an amazing adventure and I even paddled past the Statue of Liberty on both the out and return voyage. What's particularly surprising was that, the day before the meet-up UMA had been anchored in the area on the west side of the Statue of Liberty. I could have EASILY met them with my kayak if I'd known they were there the day before. So It's not so unusual for someone to come out to meet the boat and crew of their favorite YT sailing channel! : - ) Scott W

I paddle around NYC a lot. The currents are for real with opposing river currents and tides. Advance planning is required. Picking a time with manageable winds helps.
