    I've played the guitar for 50 years and I'll never give up until they pry it from my cold, dead hands... Oops, that's for gun nuts. Anyway, I'm sticking around until you get to adding vibrato to a note. For some reason the seemingly effortless vibrato on a violin just destroys me. I'll be happy with that! Rock on! 🤘

    This is great Henrietta! We got our outfits yesterday! I'm happy I watched many of your lessons prior. I didn't end up getting a 5 string; after much research I decided on the 4 string Glasser carbon composite, and happy for that. I must ask, I'm trying very hard to not place any pressure on my thumb while fingering, but to no avail, it wants to squeeze no matter what I do; this must be where practice comes in; are there any other tips? And the couple weeks that we were waiting for the violins, I built up calices from an acoustic guitar, but I've noticed the calices are larger than needed now and it affects pizzicato; should I trim them with nail clippers and rebuild them? Oh, and thank you!!!

  • @violinclasses

    @violinclasses

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Todd, is it the hair of the bow that touches the adjacent string or is it the left hand finger? Please stop exactly when that happens, freeze in your tracks and analyse what happens. If it is the bow, try tilting that hair so that it gets flat on the string, perhaps adjust the level of your right elbow, so that it steers the bow more towards the D string. If it is the left finger, try placing it more in the middle of your finger tip on the string. Let me know if either of theses suggestions work. Good luck! 🤞

    Hello and many many thanks for putting this lessons together in such a nice and well structured way. I have a question (not sure if you will be able to answer here but I will give it a try anyways lol). When I play the G string in a open position I am able to get a good full sound and I believe I am following your guidance in positioning my elbow properly as it works well with the open string. However, when I try to go down the scale (A B or C) pressing the string with my fingers the sound is awful and almost unrecognizable. I am able to produce a good sound in the others string so I don’t believe it is due lack or pressure on my fingers. What could I try to remedy this? Thanks much!

  • @violinclasses

    @violinclasses

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Mencio, without having seen your playing position, I am guessing that it might be something g to do with how your fingers are placed on the string. It your top finger knuckle vertical? And if so, are you pressing down the string with the pad of your finger tip and not with your nail?
