    The hard part for this is that it consumes a lot of energy. If you don't have a massive stamina reserve, it is a struggle to sustain these jump smashes.

    Very helpful as always. I highly recommend your channel to parents, teachers, and coaches trying to develop programs around the US. USA badminton has Shuttle Time, a program to introduce badminton in the schools. Because there are only a few places in the country with world class coaching, these videos give newer programs accurate information. Kids who want to develop can attend week-long summer camps at elite centers around the US to build skills too. Thanks for all your posts!

    Hi Tony, I've admired your skills for a long time and it's great to see you teaching here on KZread. I wanted to ask you about the use of your non-racket arm when smashing; some players have their non-racket arm fully extended as they load their rear leg, whereas you only extend your non-racket arm AFTER you've jumped (as seen at 4:58). Is this just personal preference or are there other factors to consider?

  • @BadmintonOvertime

    @BadmintonOvertime

    2 жыл бұрын

    You are correct. Non-racket arm is just to keep your own balance. So it is for personal preference how far you want to extend it.

    To be honest, based on the explanation I still do not understand why one would use double legs jump over scissor leg jump. It appears that using both legs could potentially reach a higher point of contact (wasn't that clear in the video). Also, the three different jumps are toward different directions. When scissor leg jump was used, the body is slightly moving backward (with simultaneous rotation and forward motion recovery). When using one leg jump, the body is moving side ways (maybe slightly forward) but giving up rotation. When using double legs jump, the body is mainly going straight up (with slight forward momentum). I think timing and movement directions would dictate what jump one should use (of course, during games, this would be intuitive given the flight patterns). I appreciate the motion breakdowns.
