My favourite Philippe Myers story: My dad was a teacher at an "alternative education" school for youth who struggle to make it in the regular school system. He taught lots of kids varying from those who needed an extra boost to graduate to actual murderers. One day, he was teaching in a lodge at a local park where another high school came for a field trip, and naturally his students run up and scare off the bus driver and loot all the backpacks the kids left behind. They might have barked up the wrong tree because afterwards, in walks none other than 6'7" 17 year old Philippe Myers asking for his stuff back. The students deny vehemently that they had anything to do with it, until my grandfather walks in to give something to my dad and all the kids think he's some sort of police detective (they're paranoid at this point) and they get scared. After my grandfather leaves, my dad says something along the lines of "alright, cough it up" and the kids give everything back to him, which eventually gets returned to the owners and my dad's students avoid having beef with a 6'7" NHL prospect. I'm writing this as accurately as I can from memory so I apologize if some details are off but that is the true story of how my dad met Philippe Myers.

I feel uneasy. Leafs couldn't defend in the Regular Season. Enter Tanev, OEL, and Stolarz (in net). In the playoffs they couldn't score. *Exit* Bertuzzi. I'm happy they re-signed Domi but this team needed *more* up front and they have less. Edmonton went out and got Skinner and Arvidsson, that is what they needed. Leafs also need some depth, what if injuries happen? Idk it feels like they're kinda punting this season and then gonna figure it out when Marner and Tavares come off the books.

  • @wesgreig271

Part of their problem scoring is that they have absolutely no threat from the point. None of their D have a particularly scary shot and Reilly creates offence by pushing down lower in the zone. In the regular season teams don't adjust their systems much to match the opponent but they do in the playoffs so in the reg. season they can create the offence down low, but in the playoffs their opponent can leave the point unchallenged and create a 3 v 5 down low to choke out the forwards. If the puck goes to the point the D weren't really a threat to create offense with the extra space. With the upgrades on D it's possible that teams can't cheat against them in the same way. That being said they need one of their prospects to take a big step up front.

It's great that they keep trying out these depth signings, but none of it matters if the core doesn't change. Unfortunately, Leafs management and Leafs fans are so risk averse that they'd rather be a playoff failure that does well against regular season competition than take a chance on being a great playoff team that allocates money properly. The highest priced tickets in hockey can't buy you passion for winning, apparently.

I am pretty sure this team doesn't have Hakanpaa and the Leafs are done for this offseason. It was always Shanny's plan to see out the core 4 til the end. He bought into what Dubas fed him, which was a great regular season team. And the reason the Tavares and Marner contracts are the way they are is so he can convince MLSE next season that they are making a big play at McDavid and letting JT and Marner walk. Then having a team with the top two centres in the league.

Can we just laugh at the fact that the hockey guy of the Toronto Sun didn't know who Hakanpaa - a 32 year old, 6'7" beast of a defenseman - was before the Leafs signed him? That's a self indictment of incompetence if ever I've seen one

I love these signings. Sans Hakanpaa, they all sound like grinders - hopefully playoff grinders.

Fun fact: Philippe Myers was traded for both Ryan Ellis and Ryan McDonagh.

So in the playoffs the last few years our offense has no showed,,, so we are taking out bertuzzi and hoping it'll fix the issue? I like the signings, but our biggest issue is now an even bigger issue and the are still signing 10th-15th defense depth,,,, ummm you might wanna sign someone other than Matthews and Nylander to put the Puck in the net or its gonna be another short playoffs and long summer

@@Robokingmen yes they scored 1 goal/game in the playoffs they for sure have scoring.... sounds like you are the one who needs their head checked not the other way around.... last few years their defense has been great ain the playoffs and their offense has vanished... you need more than 2 players that can score.... they need a 2nd-th line and they dont have that

Didn't Steve say 25 games was the max for a "cup of coffee" with a team on the free agency live pod? And then follows it up this video with "27 games, a cup of coffee" 😂

Myers probably 7th or 8th D-man. Mermis could be called up if injuries occur.
