The Bruins coach got all ticked off with Pasta. Did it work? No - they're out. Pasta was doing his best. Florida did a great job taking away his time and space. This nonsense that players only care if they are being yelled and screamed at by coaches is so 1950's-ish. Also, every player does something stupid. It's one of the fastest sports out there and mistakes are made - even at the NHL level. If they continue to make the same mistake the coach looks at other options - benching, sitting someone for a shift, a period... whatever. IMO screaming at someone is bunch of a toxic bs, like cross-checking everyone after the whistle.

Leafs might be one more postseason failur away from blowing it up, if they even can. He's also younger. Berube isnt old per say but 5 years from now he'll be in his 60s. How many current coaches are that old? 2? If that. Its not looking good for him unless he has some instant success or the fans and media temper expectations. Which never seems to happen

@@Mansini77 100% Agree with you. He's a former Leaf; he knows the pressure of playing in Toronto and what the media and fan expectations are. The Leafs Players won't be able to use the " Media and Fans put to much pressure on us" excuse with him; because he's worn a Leafs jersey; and played at Maple Leaf Gardens and had to deal with the Media and Fans himself. It was one thing to be a Coach in the Toronto market like Keefe was and know the pressure from a coaching stand point; but it is totally different when you've actually worn the Leafs crest on your jersey and played for the team. To me that is the ingredient that has been missing from top level Coaches who have come to Toronto and failed to have success; they knew the market from a Coach's perspective but not as an actual Maple Leaf Player. And to me that is were he can reach the players; he can relate to them in a way a Babcock; or a Keefe can't and couldn't ( I just picked them as they were the two that popped into my head; but there are other excellent Head Coaches who were behind the bench in Toronto that fit that description too)

I'd prefer Keefe over Berube or any of the other recycled names. In a dream scenario we'd get either Brind Amour or maybe Sullivan if Pitt decides to fire him and hire Keefe. I dont expect either of those things to happen though But put Keefe in a smaller market with not as much pressure as Toronto and I bet he'd be successful.

@@NothingToPointOut24 Maybe. But how do you have any proof of this? That he would be successful somewhere else? Maybe he's the best coach in the league? On the other hand maybe he's the worst coach? Babcock was treated like some coaching god and then he was handed a weak Leafs team and they finished last in the league in his first year. I could have coached them to finish last in the league.

  • @NothingToPointOut24

@@jeffreym.8957 The proof is that you cant base anything off of what a coach does in Toronto. If he doesnt win the Cup, he's a failure to the media and that fanbase and that seem to trickle down to the opinions of other teams fans for some reason. IDK anything about Keefe but based on the other realistic choices, I'd take his unknowns over the rest. Berube won a Cup and was fired and then not immediately picked up by another team. So who knows how good he is? Fact is, there's probably 5-10 really good coaches in the league right now and the rest are guys that could hop around from team to team and maybe eventually find one that sticks. Maybe Keefe in NJ has that potential. If they hire him I give him a much longer shelf life there than Berube will have in Toronto, thats for sure.

Our Stanley Cup window just closed. He cannot take young players & develop a cup team. But he will let you know where the problems lie. You have enough talent in Toronto but it will take a few changes that Berube wants. Get ready to play heavy & Forecheck but most importantly you have to Backcheck. No skating around waiting for the Puck, You have to take it. Good luck Toronto. Berube will Never Ever be forgotten here in St Louis. Cant wait until you come to town. I remember when the Penguins won their first Cup. The last game of the Cup Final was on May 25th, and that was the latest the Stanley Cup had ever been awarded, at that point. It's weird how that keeps extending deeper into the summer. And the Berube thing... it's Toronto. Until it actually happens, I'm skeptical that _anything_ will make an appreciable difference to that team's chance of winning. I get that some people are excited. I'm not saying it's wrong to be excited. But as of this moment, I'm convinced the Leafs winning anything after 1967 would violate some fundamental law of the universe.

Was really hoping Buffalo would hire CB…if Toronto doesn’t make RD-3 next year, I bet he’ll be wishing they did, too. “It’s all Berube’s &&@% fault! He was supposed to €£¥% motivate them! And etc.!” Ah, we’ll see.

dear hockey guy, i watch you every day and appreciate the content. however, things happening when youre away is meaningless. youre here all the time and things happen all the time. you taking a break and things still happening is normal. i will still watch your take on things even if the news happened 100 years ago.

First you gotta make the playoffs, then you have to win against 15 other really good teams. Leafs fans think that if they just make the right moves, they will win. The reality is that it's a crap shoot, more luck than skill.

@@TheHockeyGuy You are playing semantics. There are sixteen teams in the playoffs. Assuming all teams are perfectly equal, you have a 1/16 chance of winning. Four series where you have a 1/2 chance of winning = 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2 = 1/16 chance of winning. There are sixteen teams in the playoffs, and one winner. Any advantage that you can gain from picking players or coaches is negligible, because you are competing against 32 other teams at this level. Statistically, the winner of the President's trophy has a better argument of being the best team in the NHL. The Stanley Cup winner is just the team that beat the odds and got lucky.

@@TheHockeyGuy So I would argue that if you make the playoffs year after year, you are better off staying with that formula, that making a lot of changes because you don't WIN the Stanely Cup is just as likely to backfire and find you not in the playoffs. Seen it over and over again.

It's not luck. That is an insult to the players who sacrifice their health to block shots and throw/absorb hits. You have to beat four teams to win the Cup.
