I was sure of that! I met this week-end in Geneva René Zosso, who will teach soon hurdy gurdy to my wife: Do you know him? He worked with Jordi Savall and Clemencic Consort, he's like you a very good player, I regret to play only guitar mandole and flute!!

Are you sure that it's traditional? I always thought it was composed by Gilles Chabenat. Fine playing, btw - but one of the gurdies seems to be screeching a bit on some notes - perhaps not enough cotton on the string?

MrFair I think what you can hear is the very fine, fairly high pitched trompette. On my system I don't hear any screeching at all. At 0.09 - that is about where the trompette starts. Sometimes it is on the 'off' beat' ..??? Anyway it doesn't really matter. :-)

MIKE SMITH Hm. The screeching is rhythmical, more or less. But I'm fairly certain it is not the trompette ... or are you using two differently pitched and adjusted trompettes at the same time? If it's the trompette, I certainly have never heard such a high pitched one ;) I'll check it on my other system later, when I'm back home.

I can hear the intermittent "whistle". I get the same thing, only on certain notes in the middle of the range. I am working on the assumption it is a cotton / string pressure / angle of string on the wheel thing . . . that I haven't resolved yet! It seems to be when the cotton loses traction and skids on the wheel.

Yes it was one of Gilles Chabenat's many tunes. Living in the Berry his music is very popular with gurdies and pies. I can play this on my Tommy along with our group in La Chatre

The melody strings are tuned to G. There are 2 melody strings both in G. One is an octave higher. The hurdy gurdy then has other strings which are drones and only play one note. 😊🎶
