The most they can do is perform the background check and psych test ahead of time, then submit the application and completed work to the Sheriff. Only the Sheriff has the authority to approve a CCW, which means only the Sheriff has the authority to deny. What's probably happening is the Sheriff is using the cities as administrative assistants of sort. Getting them to collate requests into groups so the Sheriff's department doesn't have to go through and do that work. Then the Sheriff (or an "authorized agent") can quickly deny applications on grounds. The applications that cant be dismissed on grounds are then reviewed by the Sheriff. That's the only thing that makes since.

It's all about revenue for the state, not safety. The handgun roster, the CCW's, the 11% tax increase.

In Kansas, you don’t need a permit to concealed or open carry. The only reason to get one is to carry in other states that require a permit (that recognize Kansas CCH). Kansas CCH application fee is $32.50, the 8 hour class is $80 to $100 depending on the instructor. The permit is good for 4 years, no fee for renewal. I left CA 2 years ago and I’m enjoying freedom.

Does having a Kansas CCW bypass the NICs? In Arizona, by having an AZ CCW permit, it bypasses the NICs. Gun Store loves me when I show up almost closing time to buy a gun. I saw gun store told non ccw holder to come back tomorrow to run their NICs, but sold me a gun because I have my CCW, they don't have to do mu NICs, just fill out my 4473.

I tried going through Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. They told me that I needed to go through my city, which was Pomona.

Simply applying thru the Sheriffs Dept instead of whatever city you reside in, isn’t always an option in CA. For example, the Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Dept. discontinued issuing permits for residents in several cities within the county-instead they’re punting to those PD’s (which tend to be more political as the chiefs are appointed by politicians)

Depending on where you are, the sheriff route could take double the time. Some people will just choose to go the PD route and pay more, to get it earlier.

I support Sheriff Chad Bianco for Governor. Don’t know if he would run but he is my Sheriff and I support him and his policies and law enforcement. He’s a pragmatic and practical guy who is Pro 2A and Pro CCW.

The LASD no longer processes permits except for other municipalities. The exception is for unincorporated areas and renewals

I find it interesting that exercising your 2nd amendment rights is the only right that you have to pay to exercise. Poll taxes were declared unconstitutional a long time ago. Bruen should have made all of these fees unconstitutional.

Exactly. There's no getting around high fees if you live in one of those cities. That's part of CRPA's lawsuit against the L.A. Co. sheriff.

I just got my ccw from Downey PD, 5/2024. DPD was very prompt and professional, it took me 7 months total, DOJ held it 3 months alone. Total cost approx 1000.

We need to have a govt assistance program to pay for these fees. To help people practice their right to bear arms safely. If it's just about safety, then let's make sure everyone is knowledgeable.

My county requires 16-hour training course which includes instruction on firearm safety and the law regarding the permissible use of a firearm, 1-hour mental health component, and a written test. You must qualify with each firearm you want listed on your CCW Permit (maximum 3 firearms).

I used to live in Sacramento, California. March 2015, I'd started my CCW process. In August of 2015, I got my CCW. Everything cost me close to $600 thats including 2 pistols that I qualify with. Renewed the second time, it cost me about $250 with 3 pistols qualifications. Now I live in Arizona, even though Arizona is a constitutional carry state, I got my AZ CCW which cost me $60 and i can carry any pistols I want without any qualifications.

I submitted 2 days after the Bruen decision. It took 18 months to finally complete the process and pick up my CCW for Los Angeles County. $1500 at least for live scan, background check, fingerprinting, training... it's ridiculous to go through all this for a Constitutional Right.

If you live in L.A. city you cannot go to LASD for permit. As far as I know you have to use your municipality.

After Bruen. LASD had an influx of applicants wait time was over a year so Sheriff stopped taking applications from residents . So if you lived in a city that was not worked by sheriff you had to go through your local municipality . That’s also the reason why city’s are charging so much . Some city’s are issuing within a month of applying. Sucks either way.

Los Angeles Sheriff will not except any applications for CCW from a person living in Inc. city within LA County due to the backlog.

In San Jose, SJPD is asking for 1k just for a clerk to look at your CCW application.

Picked mine up in county of Sonoma 3 months ago. Total cost with permit app training and red dot mounting by gunsmith, All said and done it was about 1100$ and took under 120 days. Bit pricy but I'm happy!

LASD is currently only accepting CCWs from unincorporated areas of LA county or contracted cities where they provide LE services. If you live in a city, you have to go to them to get your permit. That's why it seems every city has a CCW permit process. Causing the wide variation in costs. Each city has to do their own. Also as of Jan 1, 2024, the CCW laws were amended. The psych test fee was legislatively capped at $150. Previously the agencies had to eat the extra amount over the $150, but after Jan 1, 2024, they can charge the total cost even making the permit more expensive.

LASD states now you have to go through the city PD you live in before you try applying with LASD. Also at least for LASD your permit date starts on the day you pick up your CCW license card. They make the card that day. So your time doesn’t start ticking when you are going through the process.

That’s insane. We’re in Orange County and it’s administered by the county sheriff so it’s the same for everyone.

They make a financial burden especiallycomparedto other states in the mid west. In Alameda County California sheriff department fees list: $95 upfront $415 psychological test $100 prior to issuing permit. $300 firearm training Plus ammo cost

You have to apply with law enforcement agency that is responsible for your place of your residence. If you live in Alhambra, you must apply with Alhambra Police. If the Sheriff’s Department patrols your area of residence, you apply with the Sheriff’s Department.

I got my CCW from Long Beach PD in March 2024 after 10 months at a cost of about $1,300. It's ridiculous. I was able to get 3 guns on my license, but I just heard that LBPD is now only allowing 1 because of the administrative burden. That doesn't make sense.

Unfortunately you must apply through the local jurisdiction of where you live. In Reseda that is LAPD it blows!!!!

LA County Sheriff will only accept an application if you have applied at your local police department and been turned down. The exception is if you live in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County

My renewal fee in Riverside County is $80.00 to Riverside Sheriffs Department, and $160.00 for an 8 hour class. Add ammo cost and it’s about $250. Some Companies that are licensed for the CCW training charge more than $160 for the one day class. First time permit applications are more expensive.

Got mines in October 2023 in San Bernardino. Took 50 weeks and cost me $420.

I thought that the LASD stated that you had to go through your city Police Department for your permit. They would only process permits for the areas they patrol. Some cities have police departments like LA, Torrance, Long Beach, etc and if you live in those areas, you must go to those PD. Only if LASD provides policing in your areas (via contract by smaller cites or unincorporated areas) can you apply to LASD. I live in San Diego and my permit from the SD Sheriff was less than $500. I submitted my application in June 2022, received the interview in April 2023, passed the Back ground check in July 2023, took the test in August 2023 and received the permit in September 2023. In 2023, the San Diego Sheriff did not require a psychological interview. I’m not sure if a psych interview is required in the areas listed on your chart for everyone. If it is required, the costs would be accurate. This needs to be checked for accuracy.

Mental evaluations are a county based requirement. My county (butte) doesn't require a mental evaluation. My total fees were: $19 application fee $131 live scan $340 ccw class $62 issue fee

Tulare County paid about 340$ but waited 7 months for mine

I have been waiting for my interview with Alameda County for my permit for over a year now. No word yet. I had to pay a non-refundable 100.00 fee.

kern county and tulare county are both shall issue. if you qualify, you get approved. it takes about 60 days to recieve.

I was informed by LASD, after my CCW certification expired a year later that LASD is no longer issuing CCW permits. And I was informed by them to apply with my local police department Pasadena PD. Which had their own permit process and list of approved CCW certification classes. Over a year later I’m still waiting for my CCW initial interview after submitting all required documents and livescan

"San Fernando" is not the San Fernando valley, it refers to the City of San Fernando. Most of the Valley is LASD.

So I just got mine through Whittier. LASD (Since Bruin) does not issue permits if you live in a city that has their own police department. So you can apply with LASD but they will DQ you right away if you live in a Municipality. If you live in a city with a Police department, LASD will NOT even take your application.

This is correct. LASD no longer issues permits to individuals that live within an incorporated city that has its own police department. If it is a city that contracts with LASD (i.e. West Hollywood), then you can go through LASD.

Amendment is probably the fee when you want to make a change on your issued permit.

San Fernando city has its own PD, the most of SFV is LAPD. Except Burbank, Glendale.

Riverside county has over 30,000 ccw’s issued now and San Bernardino county has over 19,000

I'd moved out 4 years ago. It definitely costs more to move out. Cost me over $4000 just to rent a box truck. When I got to Arizona, the same box truck they renting out cost a fiction of that price.

Applied in June of 22’ in LA County , Washington approved for training in February of 23’ completed that , and just now almost 2 years later I have a pick up date slated for my license … long story short I’m out , I’m planning my escape now and at the point I’ll surrender my CCCW ( Commiefornia CCW) acter 2 years , clocks ticking so I’m going to start my search.
