For anybody wondering, the android 12 update for the quest 2 made it so that you cant acces the system folders. You will have to follow the instructions for the quest 3 modding even if you are on a quest 2.

The fact you STILL have to downgrade is depressing. Thought that by now there would have been a workaround. This is coming from an experienced modder for other games so it's not like my expectations are without knowledge.

Beat sabers code is not very modular, so version to version there are pretty big back end changes. Supposedly, the developers are working towards making the game more modular, which would probably make the game easier to mod. They announced something about about modularity in the meta beta announcements thing.

You will always have to downgrade, except those rare times when we have the latest version. Quest version of the game is built with il2cpp to maximize performance. And all mods are built with C++ and are statically linked to offsets in game binaries. So every time game gets updated those offsets are regenerated and break. We do have to rebuild the mods every time a version changes, on the positive side, we have way better performance than C# mods.

@@asherlol Yes you can always go back, but online is a bit different. There’s a few ways to play modded maps online, but you generally can no longer play the non modded official online unless you reinstall and wipe your mods.

The mod creators would have to rewrite their mods over and over again if they kept up with the latest version. Staying with one version for a while allows the mods to keep working until the devs can hopefully create an official way to add mods.

Thank you so much for this walkthrough! QAVS makes this so much easier than it used to be. QuestPatcher was a little fussy at times in detecting Quest 3. Turns out I had to reload Sidequest and have that detect it again first and tell QP to try again. But it worked out. Much appreciated! Oh, and my paid-for Queen pack always disappears after modding BS. Only that one, and I guess there's no way to get it back, grrrr.

Thats because that Queen pack was added in a newer version of BS which can't be modded yet. You downgrade your version to mod it.

Seeing a lot of recent comments saying this doesn't work but it do...The core mods didn't show up for me so I downloaded them as per the pinned comment (just click the big blue "Download all core mods" button). To load them in was simple enough: in QuestPatcher click into Mod Management, then Browse and select the file you downloaded. It'll start downloading/ installing them all. One slight stumbling block I had was QuestPatcher took a little while to initialise and I don't know when but I got a pop-up (after thinking it wasn't working) that said something had finished. After that once I opened BeatSaber and went through the whole start up thing I got a pop-up saying "Piracy make Meta mad" that I couldn't click on and the meta button didn't do anything. Just double tap the side of the headset to go into pass-through mode, close BeatSaber and reopen it, maybe a restart wouldn't hurt either. Haven't had the pop-up since.

Hey, thanks so much, this helped a ton. I’m trying to get more than just songs, and other YTers say to use BMBF but it won’t let me allow files. It says to protect privacy please choose a different file. Do you have a solution or any other way to get custom savers,notes,maps, ext?

I’m having the same issue but with the app version switcher. It keeps saying to grant it access to my folders but when I do it says “to protect your privacy, choose another folder” but no folder works and creating one doesn’t either. I tried restarting the headset and still not working. Any ideas on how to fix this?

for anyone interested, im trying to use BSManager as another way for BS Mods. Seems easy enough, just need steam version of BS (or someone elses key). You're still able to load up Oculus version while the mods are active so if you have a doodoo PC, you wont have to worry about performance

Accidentally deleted my old install of modded beatsaber and all my songs and progress. Hope this at least helps gets the custom songs back.

Once i downloaded my custom songs the play button wouldnt work with any of them but works fine with the default songs?

I'm stuck at trying to download the 1.28 version as, even if I correctly login, I get the error "this account does not own BeatSaber". How could I solve it? (I have a Meta Quest 2 for context)

I have the same issue. I just tried to mod BeatSaber on my Quest 3 following this video and even if I allow access to my files with the toggle, once it tries to install the required mods I am unable to grant access to the necessary folders. They're all greyed out and I get the error "cant use this folder, for your own privacy use a different folder". This video's instructions don't work anymore :(

Does anyone know what folders the downloaded mods are going to? It wouldnt let me access the folders so im using the file manager via my laptop and a transfer cable to get to them. Just not sure where they all go

If your core mods don't pop up in QuestPatcher as said in the pinned comment dowload them from that site then run your QuestPatcher after it opens up click browse and select the dowloaded file give it time and everything shuld work fine after making sure all files are "enabled", have a nice day

On the same link he put in the pinned comment, scroll down past the core mods. In there will be mods like noodle extensions qosmetics etc. just download them and go to quest pacher and click browse. Now select the mods when ur quest is connected and you’ll be all set

The quest 2 is way easier, u just have to downgrade beat saber and then u can get bmmf inside the headset and get all the mods from there, but bmbf doesent work for the quest 3 at the moment

But this means you simply cannot Mod using QAVS, But you can still mod using the Quest Patcher version he explains which is for Quest 3. The tutorial is outdated for Quest 2, but if you just use quest patcher and download core mods and other mods through there, it works fine

You can’t do anything when the v63 update came out it blocked scoped storage which means that quest modding is currently impossible

​@@svenbjorn9700 he's right. It's not false info. Go look it up for yourself. It's a new update dealing with "scoped storage" that keeps you from viewing folders.

POV you made QAVS and by extension the "permission needed" bug. However I don't see why you'd have to reload mods after downloading them in QAVS as it kept track of what it installs itself

Due to the new android update you are not allowed to give access to your folders. You have to mod it the same way you would on quest 3.

I've got QAVS but it only downgraded me to version 1.35. A lot of the mods I want are only compatible with version 1.28, but I can't get QAVS to downgrade me to 1.28. I wanted to get beatleader, map extensions, noodles, etc. Any ideas?

I have beat saber modded on my computer but for some reason it's decided to make the air link laggy no matter the fix I use and I know it isn't the connection. Have yet to try the cable but I'm expecting just modding directly on my quest is going to be my answer.

I NEED HELP: none of the mods were showing up in library, I have a quest 3, so I downloaded them from the link that Mysticle posted, they were outdated, my version wasn't what they were for, even after downgrading, but I activated them anyway and now beat saber won't open, I uninstalled it and reinstalled, but that did nothing, there's an update button in the meta quest store, but when I click on it it says "queued" and then stops suddenly. I think noodle extensions are a no go for now. I don’t know how to get them to work either

I don't think QAVS is working anymore. On the beat saber modding discord it says that you should use quest patcher, and that worked for me.

I just tried this and I could not get this to work on my quest 2. I have deleted everything and restarted multiple times and I could not get it to work. After every time it would give me an anti piracy developer pop up and after closing it it would load the old version of the game but without the mods. Please let me know if there is something I might be doing wrong or if this method is already outdated

@@caelanborrowman5245 It depends, if you open beat saber and look to the left there should be some mod boxes like more songs next to the solo mode option, if you see some of your mods there I don't know what to do, if you do not see anything different from the base game it means beat saber is not moded and you need to try to mod it again. Sorry if what I said did nothing to help you and good luck in fixing your issues.
