‼️PLEASE READ‼️ Apparently I may have not had my Bigscreen Beyond not setup correctly which may have affected tracking. That could be a factor too 🤔 I just realised one of the scores were doubled up 😭😭😭 Here's all the actual results for those curious imgur.com/a/eijh4r7 I really wanted to play Beat Saber on EVERY actual headset but it became way too hard! My poor Valve Index is broken but figured the Bigscreen Beyond would have similar results (if not better). What's your favorite headset for Beat Saber?

Naysy it’s ok. But I do have a tip for quest 3! There is one mod that allows you when you record a video to make it look like a pc! It’s called replay! It does take a few adjustments tho! But when you’re recording it looks exactly like a pc! If you’re going to use it as your daily driver, you should consider this option! The MR is a bit better with this option. From my testing it does seem to work perfect. You can get all pc graphics! And MR avatar is possible too! Okay that’s it! 🤣

This ain't how you make a test. For testing something the variables needs to be independent of eachother, which they clearly aren't, since your going from headset to headset and other stuff can mess with the results like how tired you are or even that you can become a bit better for playing the song more.

    - They're not the only one, so that's an untrue statement - The second sentence on the Pro Controllers' product page literally says they're compatible, and so many KZreadrs have said as much since they launched. - Ultimately, nothing was actually learned, and no conclusions were made - and they didn't even test everything in working order, and they didn't control for a bunch of things. Not resting properly between each session is a huge fail, for example. This video was terrible science, nothing was learned, and no new information was communicated. Thinking that was just because it was better then the Q2, I tried it with the Q3 on the Steam version using Virtual Desktop. I would have figured there would be extra latency, but again I got some new high scores. My conclusion was that the lighter controllers had a lot to do with it. Glad you may have had the same thought. Loved the comparison, I've been curious how it would shake out. Thanks

I really wanted to like VD but for some reason it makes beat saber unplayable on my quest 3. My pc is good enough to run beat saber just fine, wired in yields best results but the battery dies so quickly connected to my pc. So I'd use air link and plug it into the wall but it had noticeable latency issues. Then I bought VD to see if that would help and by far that was the worst performance. I've played around with the settings, looked up videos and guides, etc but I couldn't get it to work right. I kept trying for the first two weeks the quest 3 was out and gave up on VD after that

@@lolno98 You are probably overlooking the most important factor that has nothing to do with your PC and headset which is your network setup. It's critical that you have a good router and cable connection from PC to your router to achieve a good quality wireless connection. Most ISP routers just dont cut it. VD discord has a list of good routers. Wifi is very prone to any interference, besides good router you also need to configure it to use a clean channel. That said, even on best setup you will still have 20-40ms latency on Quest and it's just inherent to Quest PCVR. If you have trouble identifying the bottlenecks use the VD overlay that will show during the game which part of your setup causes issues. For me VD runs much worse than AirLink. but it seems to vary from person to person.

I didn't realize it used the camera tracking because it was already set up for me. So I guess it's much much easier to setup but the latency penalty is just so not worth it for home use. I think the issue with the scores could be the latency when using the BigScreen. You have more latency going out to the PC and back to the HMD. When you play stand alone on the Quest headsets you don't have the latency of having the processing happening at the far end of a cable. Does it contribute more than more forgiving tracking that may be helping you out on the Quests? Who knows, but it is another variable.

  • @gpdubs

    @gpdubs

    5 ай бұрын

The Bigscreen Beyond and valve index have no real latency related to the cable. They both use displayport so they basically operated only as displays. Different than quest pcvr where there is some encoding decoding going on that creates some display latency. Now lighthouse tracked controllers are just different than inside out tracking, so how they choose to apply predictive algorithms in each could change a bunch of things. But she is probably right that weight matters. Have used both and if you assume tracking is identical (or close enough), quest controllers are just a lot lighter.

Weight is a big factor, maily in the faster maps. The energy you must spend to stop the directions you are cutting and reverse it grows exponetially with the speed and weight. So the ligher the controller the better. So if everything else was the same, the index controller would be the worst to play beat saber.

The thing about science is, that it's all about the quality/discipline of the methodology, and the quality of the data in. Bad methodology = bunk data out and bunk conclusions. Bad data in = bunk data out and bunk conclusions. A lot of things can be called "scientific" but the question is how reliable is the data out and the conclusions drawn. I know I am acting overly serious here, don't worry, I know and the video is good fun, and good regardless 👍 hehe. Ideally if scientific a person would publish their methodology, their data, results (data out) and conclusions and this would allow others to peer review their thesis/finding/conclusions and people all over the place would actively try to screw with your results and and prove them to be wrong (not very nice of them lol). Only IF peer reviews came back and couldn't break your conclusions, and accepted your thesis/explanation for the findings would people everywhere rejoice and say Yeaaa - this is science, meaning scientific fact. And a few would be very jealous and annoyed and bang their first, maybe on a table and rather hope that reality was different lol. ^ Forget all that, BIG question... IS all your testing on Quest 2 and Quest 3 etc... Was it stand alone or PC? As the two are VERY different and very likely to substantially affect the data/results/conclusions. fun vid - we all need white coats! 😂

Banana. Like your method of comparing them. More practice than theory. Could use a rough comparison in an ambiental game, too.

Controller weight is probably the big factor here… migrating from psvr1 stick-like controller to heavier psvr2 gun-like controller made a LOT difference on arm fatigue ! Light stick-like controller is definitely the way to go for fast action cutting action ! Also, i would compare serie average and not peak. And it is very probable that the game make it more forgiving for some platform..,

Banana... I thought I heard something about the refresh rate affecting scoring somehow, but not sure where. Wish you could have added a Rift S in the test as that's what I use. Great job on the test and video though.

I play on the Quest 3 and i watched back my attempt on Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex because i thought i did really well and i noticed some notes i blatantly missed but it let me off. 🤔 So i think that may contribute to your theory that the Quest has more forgiveable tracking to cover up its less accurate tech.

The standalone headsets are more forgiving. 100%. I went from quest 2 standalone to quest 2 pcvr and my scores plummeted. Then I went back to standalone and I was able to beat song that I couldn’t on pcvr with quest 2. Going back again to pcvr after beating it on standalone I wasn’t able to beat it despite feeling like I was performing just as well if not better than on standalone.

4:57... hmmm, what are the odds of 2 runs (attempt 3 on both Pro and Quest ) being exactly the same score. As a data analyst at my company would say "smells suspiciously spurious"

I just got the pro controllers for my quest 2, and it was immediately obvious they were so much better for beat saber than the regular controllers. Now when I miss, I know it was my fault. There were so many times with the standard controllers where I swear I sliced that block and it just wouldn't give it to me.

IMHO, for it to be a truly level playing field the Quests should all have been on PCVR via Link cable. That'd mitigate any "extra forgivingness" baked into the standalone version of Beat Saber.

The controllers are more important for this than the headset in isolation, any headset with good responsiveness and clarity will work fine, the controllers on the other hand, weight, form factor and tracking are so important. I've been a lighthouse tracking guy for a while, but recently got the Quest 3 and have been surprised by how good the tracking is, wouldn't say it's as good as lighthouse, but it's far closer than I expected and the controllers are just so much lighter and easier to move without fatigue, so I'll take a 1-2% reduction in tracking for 80% increase in mobility.

Good start, but not including any information about used refresh rate, the Quest 3 and 2 were the only ones that can run above 90hz (excluding PSVR2) and the platform used: Using Quests with PCVR Beat Saber results in latency that alters the experience drastically, is not very scientific at all.

playing beat saber for hours and hours on end.. for science! very interesting results though. So far Quest3 is better for me because the controllers are so much lighter than Q2 which makes a huge difference, it's almost effortless now.

I think steam beatsaber has smaller tolerance beacuse it thinks you are using outside-in tracking, but on quest there's bigger tolerance.

there's no ''best headset for beat saber'' you can be really good with anything just play, the only thing you could worry is if you have an index or a vive the controllers are too heavy usually, if not you're completely fine lol

There's so many factors... stamina, controller settings, tracking optimization, not to mention if you repeatedly do one song, it stands to reason you would improve slightly and then plateau... like I wouldn't be surprised if you just used the same setup for all your takes and came out with similar results. Personally, my ranking in terms of tracker quality for Beat Saber from best to worst: 1. Rift/Rift S - With dedicated sensors for its controllers, it has the most stability and least wobble. The controller itself is lighter than the quest 2/3 not to mention the most well-built. 2. Touch (Quest 2) - very stable, but still has some wobble when compared to the Rift. 3. Quest Pro - decent tracking, but camera based tracking means it has a higher chance of flying off during heated sessions, not to mention it actually occasionally overheats and stops working (literally a notification pops up that says "your controllers are too warm, let them rest for a bit"). 4. Touch Plus (Quest 3) - maybe updates will fix this, but I'm guessing due to the lack of rings like the Q2 controllers, the tracking quality is far less precise. Routinely jumps several inches in random directions, which is terrible for BS. Quest 3 also doesn't have top-facing cameras like the Q2. 5. Knuckles - haven't seriously tested this one yet but lighthouse tracked means it does have good tracking, it's just... heavy and not balanced well, and requires a whole different set of grip settings.

  • @chrisf217

Its because latency on standalone headsets like Quest 3 is lower. Plus the Quest 3 Controllers are lighter and smaller.

The reason you scored better on the quest headsets is because of swing bug, where the headset predicts position between frames. This means higher scores. The swing bug is more powerful on low refresh rate headsets. This means you’d probably do even better on the quest 1
