I had to do a double take when i saw it
3d printing a gift is the modern day equivalent of when someone would crochet or knit a gift for you. I would take that over anything bought from the store.
@Emily-fm7pt
3 жыл бұрын
accept knitting requires lots of time and effort, and 3d printing [a model off of thingiverse] takes approximately 21 clicks... (Not saying that Its wrong to do that cause I've done it plenty of times, but I feel like its much more personal to get a knitted, or carved gift)

Even if that thing from the store was worth around 100 thousand dollars?

It depends. My sister does crocheting, I've got 2 3D printers. The amount of work needed for taking a model from the Internet, throwing it onto an FDM printer and checking again after half a day or so cannot really be compared to even the simplest crocheting. The time equivalent would either be creating your own 3D models or doing 2-3+ prints on a resin printer, since preparing and cleaning the model takes so much more time.

One thing I've been printing is lithophanes for my mom! I even designed a holder that holds the light and the lithophane so you could swap around whichever one you are using. She loves taking pictures so it's great being able to give back some of those pictures in a really neat way.

Very creative! Nice
I've been designing and 3D printing christmas decorations as gifts for about 5 years now. Got a desktop CNC recently so i'm carving them this year.
3D-printed gifts always make for excellent stocking-stuffers!
Love the cameo by Billie! And I've been printing the nesting puzzle boxes for about a week now.
Haha, those spinners Will be my primary choice !!! So great
I had just gotten my first printer, covid hit and caused me to be home 3 months. I learned my printer, slicer, fusion 360 and you were the first/best of my teachers. It’s all so addicting. Even the smell of pla printing will be etched in my brain forever. Thanks Angus!!!

I am utterly impressed that you learned 'fusion 360'. I 'bounced off' those tutorials several times before I gave up.
Thanks Angus, and happy holidays. I just got into 3d printing about a month ago and it's been a blast. I definitely made some phone holders for gifts this year as well as coasters and SD card holders.
Really like that fox tower!
Watching your video in the middle of printing a tippi tree. Great christmas gift for my nephews.
Recently purchased and printed the locking dovetail gear box. One of my favorite all time prints. Thank you for these videos and designs.

I’ve been printing custom designed boxes with a theme based around something the recipient likes and filling them with treats. Easy to design and print!
We've printed several lithophane night lights for Christmas gifts this year. Thanks to the online tools and tutorial videos, they're quite easy to make.
Lithophanes of family photos using white filament are a great personal gift aswell!
Love the channel, gonna print all of these!
These are such great suggestions! I will definitely be printing some of them

Digging that Dankpods Plug lol
I've been printing a nativity set on a card that you punch out the pieces and build it. It's new this month on Thingiverse. I've been giving it to friends and neighbors and am excited every time someone texts me a picture of theirs built and says how much they and their kids love it. Simple, but it has gone over great.
I only recently got my first 3D printer and made a few customised headphone holder clamps (the ones which use a threaded bolt to attach to different sized tables) These were for friends of mine who have been working from home and didn't have somewhere convenient to put their work headsets when not in use. A few have already been opened and they were a hit!
I've been printing off kit cards from thingiverse. Great selection from the F-16 to a X-wing. They are perfect size to send in the mail too.
It's the time of the year again where this video is useful!
I’ve been making “project trays” for the kids so they can stay organized with different arts and crafts. They seem to be useful and popular.
Tippi Tree is an excellent game! Bought it when it was released. My family loves playing it.

New to the 3d printing world and find your videos awesome!!! I made all kinds of cookie cutters and stepped it up to a couple playable Ocarina's!! Thanks for all the tips, tricks, and ideas!!!
Merry Christmas Angus. Hope you have a great and safe one.
Well past Christmas, but this gave me a super idea for Easter. Thanks!!
This is such a huge help! I haven't been able to do a lot of Christmas shopping being sort of broke from covid, but I do have access to a bit of filament and these gift ideas are just wacky enough I know my family and friends will love them! Keep up the good work!

i like to printfoldable phone stands because they're universal and amaze everyone when you tell them they're made in one peice
I cant wait to try some of these out this year Thanks for the help
Aw these are cute, I have a young nephew ill print some of these for! Good job finding and presenting them, thanks!
I’m currently printing a gift for a family member. It’s a very large print 3+days in. Hopefully they’ll enjoy it when’s it done!
Shew! I just got done printing some quick 1 hour gliders for the kids in the family!
Great video, Angus! I think I'll be printing them whistling spinning tops for the nephews this year. Their parents will LOVE 💘 me for it!
Wow you watch dank pods too Now that's a surprise
I've printed at least 30 Lithophane night lights this year. Sent them out with a family photo all over the country to distant family members and have some for our immediate family too. All this using a cheap knock off ender 3 that i got off amazon. This printer rocks and I get 100% perfect prints from it every time.
Last Christmas I printer presents for my great Nephews and Nieces and they loved them. I did print age appropriate models
My family loves games, so Tippie Tree has been a godsend this year, I've been printing parts for them for over a week now! (Thank the gods I have a decent library of filaments)
Thank you so much my family will be so happy!
Thanks mate. Love the things you bring out on your channel. Always interesting and intriguing. Merry Christmas.🎄⛄🎅
I think I'm printing that fox tower for my dnd group.
Nice stuff thanks. The key ring phone stands are perfect hand arounds 🙂
Perfect thank you for this I needed something 😄
Whenever I print a benchy, I usually just give it to my nephew. He loves them, and it doesn't go to waste
I printed the Tippi Tree for my son & family, and also made a 3D puzzle of a local mountain range for my daughter and husband, following the guide by Make Anything. I'm thinking the noisy tops will be a nice stocking stuffer for the grandkids! :D
This year I printed 45 maze boxes (up from 30 last year) BTW there is a 10-pack of different mazes on Thingiverse too! Perfect for co-worker, friends, or just an extra if someone gives you an unexpected gift. I normally put some lottery tickets in, or other things if I know the person "partakes"
I would certainly add cookie cutters to the list, especially Christmas/games/movies themed. There are tons of those on Thingiverse and it is quite easy to create new ones, too, and they seem to be extremely popular, especially among baking-inclined women.
I have been printing covid-19 Christmas ornaments, flexi rex's and minisaurs and I have been including covid and snow flake card kits in the Christmas cards I have been sending out, thank you to the many designers and makers on thingiverse for making their work available
Thank you so much this vid was dope and I will definetly be checking out alot of theses prints
I've gifted personalized dice boxes to my D&D players, miniatures, small statuettes (Baby Groot, Stitch, etc.), personalized life counters for D&D/MTG, pendants, and as I like to tinker with LED lights, even a lithophane box with some significant photos in it :)
These videos always make me happy!
You Are awesome!! Thanks for this video. Many great ideas and fun for the covid holiday!! Bless you.
I found some nice gifts a couple months ago. I came across 3 anet a8 printers plus extra parts for a total of $20. I took each apart and rebuilt them right. Added BL Touch to each. Updated to the last Marlin and tweeked them out. I ran a test and they worked perfectly. So now my sons are each getting one.
2:00 I cannot go 5min in my day without seeing billy somewhere!
I printed two Tippi Tree games with four different color sets of leaves. It took two and a half weeks of pretty much constant printing. That includes a few failures on a few 16 hour prints. But I can't wait for my kids to open it on Christmas.
Great video! I got some prints to make this weekend!
Thanks so much for the ideas!
I just got an SL1, and I've been printing puzzles inspired by your puzzle cube for family members (Different profiles for the sweeps, to adjust the difficulty.). The tighter tolerances I can get with it make them _very_ finicky to assemble since everything has to be lined up perfectly, but that's part of the challenge >:D The difficulty of ending up with *_only_* four bodies after the cuts are done, while still generating a nicely complex geometry, was a bit of a surprise, it's harder than I expected, but satisfying when finished. Thanks for the inspiration, and Merry Christmas.
Thank you!
Looking sharp
I made a travel salt/pepper holder for the mother of my wife as she really liked mine. For my mother I am printing a cookie cutter modelled after her dog, and some candle light shaders once again, modelled after her dog :D cookie cutters are really cool. We will also give them our custom gingerbread dogs and cats that we made with the prototype cutters
That spinning whistle is perfect for my 2yo nephew! Thank you

Haha good point. I dropped it after I discovered he takes 5 bucks for the file, I don't criticize him for wanting to sell it but personally the whole point of getting a 3d printer is to only pay for filament and pick from countless of designs online.
Just what I needed!
Custom cookie cutters are super easy to design and print, and make great gifts for people who bake (or who have kids with play-doh). I haven't had much luck with the models I've tried from Thingiverse (the scaling or wall-thickness are often wonky, or they're way too complex to actually use as a cookie cutter). But it's pretty easy to trace a simple design in Fusion 360, offset it, extrude it, add a thicker part for the rim, and maybe some cross-supports along the back for rigidity. I've found a 1mm thick wall is a good compromise between strength and sharpness, and 10-12mm tall will fit most any cookie (although if you're making it for kids and modeling dough you might want to make them thicker and taller). If you add a scale feature before offsetting the wall, it's a lot easier to make multiple sizes of the same shape while keeping the walls the same thickness. And if you're lucky, you'll get some fun and delicious cookies in return!
Custom can handles and kobayashi fidget cubes were the gifts this year
I printed the Blink Fox. Oh My. Gosh. it's absolutely stunning. Printed with Eryone PLA Ultra Silk Red
that fox is awesome
love this channel keep up the good work!
I printed a few bag lids (basically clips that go on top of food bags with a plate and cap on them so you can seal things like coffee bags and have a twist off cap to pour it out) that I customised a bit and a sweeping name plate, which I've gifted a few times.
Merry Xmas, Angus~~
Angus your a life saver mate
Bought some wood infill PLA especially for printing nice looking christmas gifts. Wood filament has been challenging especially when I tried to make a models with SO MANY retractions, but I've got some nice pieces now
Some really great stuff! The last one would be perfect for the kids of a friend of mine 🤣
Printing someone something may not be "as much effort" as hand crafting an item, but it is a HELLUVA lot cooler than store bought. If properly planned, you can make someone a multi-part large prop from their favorite game or movie. Good luck buying that unless you're related to bezos I'm printing a friend of mine an "ace of spades" hand cannon from destiny 2 for his birthday this year
Lithophanes... LOTS of lithophanes. I've been harvesting memorable photos for friends from their family members, and my family Christmas "card" is also a litho.
Currently printing like a madman to make gifts for Xmas! Organizers, extending toy swords, desk planters for succulents, kit cards and the like.
I've been printing gifts, buying normal gifts, and giving gag gifts for the past 4 years. Last year I did the labyrinth gift box for my nephew. I like doing gifts for a person (like Twisted Fate from LOL for my other nephew one year, or a carousel horse for my mom). It is fun. I usually start in November since there are so many projects. This year I customized a few things with my 3D pen and worked on decorations too. Though I am realizing that yes PLA wears too fast and does not like sun exposure. (I used my clear rafts, bits, and a Olaf kit to create a melted snowman yesterday, we'll see how it turns out) I'm not fond of PETG but we'll see how it wears. It is definitely a pain to get supports off, sand, and paint! My dad is a car model maker and has pretty much taken over the painting of the objects I print. He likes the variety I do and is getting into making gifts as a personal touch. (I did vex him by messing up the Baby Yoda Christmas Ornaments on him with a dark wash though. lol) I also like to use Facegen. Angus have you checked that out? I use it to 3D print family members as ornaments for the tree. Especially those who have passed recently. It is a good way to remember them and know they are still with us, if only in spirit. I am in production mode now printing 10 for the various family members now. It is fun for people to find them in the tree like the pickle. Happy Holidays!
I have printed personalized Christmas balls for our whole family. They came out great
I'm in the process of printing a lipstick organizer that's designed to fit in a medicine cabinet. And for added functionality, some spacers to allow a mix of two favorite brand/sizes
Been printing a ton of Santa Baby Yoda for friends and family. Also printed a bust and just painted it the other night for my Secret Santa
Ever heard of the Aztek Death Whistle? You should do a Makers Muse version of this, as you have a way of over-engineering things and make them even more awesome.
A resin version of this would be great for this year! (not biased at all)
I modeled a hexagonal impossible dovetail puzzle for my grandpa, I used two magnets and a 1/4in ball bearing to lock it.
The last one is the best
Thanks! I needed this video!
A great collection of ideas. Thank you for your great channel and energetic style. 👍😎🇦🇺
This year I've printed a bunch of Mcgybeer's models, over on Cults3D. Lazy dogs, lazy reindeer, the little mini octopus. The new articulated tarantula looks awesome...
I'm printing a Stadia dock for someone who just got a Stadia, some prop cosplay drumsticks for a friend, and a glorious marble roller for the co-star...
Lithophanes are also a great gift!!
Nice haircut angus! Looking sharp mate!
Awesome video. Keep on living your dreams.
Cool and awesome prints there
I like gifting "Snap Fit Ornament" by Adafruit with custom inserts
These make great gifts as long as someone already gifted you some polyalchemy elixir 😉 some work in boring filament, but all look better in that elixir filament you love!
Currently I am working on a birthday gift to myself, since it's my bday today, so I am modeling some tool racks for my printer and for my labeling machine, haven't been able to see many attachments for them. Also some more attachments for my easel!
