    We really need an open source alternative. I'm running into people offering up their f3d files so you can make changes if you need to. Problem is, I can't get Fusion 3D. Their website is broken and doesn't work to get the free version. Tried on several computers and all 3 major browsers and it doesn't work. I fill out their form, click submit and nothing happens.

    @Maker’s Muse Probably lost in the comments by now but your mystery tool, often called a plumbers wrench, crowfoot wrench or parrot nose wrench, is called “Adjusting tie rod wrench”. It’s a car tool, and not meant to be destructive, it’s just not built for nuts or bolts. Anyway, love ya!

    I have a love-hate relationship with my Ender 3. If I had started with a better (easier to use) printer, I would *never* have learned as much as I have getting it to work the way i expect it to. On the other hand, the frustration of failed prints learning those ropes prob ably took years off my life. For someone who wants to jump in and just 3d print successfully, Ender 3 is crap. But if you as a beginner want to build a full understanding of the dynamics of 3d printing and learn through the school of trial and error how to actually make it all work, it is a fantastic choice.

    Thankyou Angus for reviewing this machine. I've seen a couple of reviews of this machine, which were enough to get my attention, but I wasn't sure I trusted the reviewers. Your reviews, I trust. I'm going to be buying my first 3-D printer for a project I want to prototype, and the large bed size and speed on this unit are of significant interest to me. Do you think a first timer could manage this machine without pulling all their hair out in frustration? Also... I realize that you would be guessing, but do you think that this machine would work with something like ASA or ABS, once an enclosure was added? Again, thank for all the videos you've done. I've learned a lot from them.

    Bambu has a STEP file available for their frame, IIRC. I think it is public because of printable P1P enclosures that they used to market the printers closer to launch

    As long as they follow the licenses of open source projects, then it's all good. Which reminds me of the arguments I've heard where people say "STEP isn't open source". If it's a format that isn't reduced accuracy, and it's a standard CAD format, then I say it is. So sounds good to me. Kinda interesting to see SV06 -> Prusa MK3, SV07 -> ?? (I don't remember), SV08 -> Voron 2.4. I wonder what the SV09 will be based off.

    Many years ago me and a customer designed a whistle, it legitimately hurt for days after I blew it. I recall it being 115db as measured with a proper decibel reading device. Not sure if you care enough to try it yourself... no one should, its not fun.

    I have little sympathy for Naomi. She was a bitch to people just talking with her online and knew damn well she needed to leave China. China is only slightly better than Sharia Law Muslim Countries for LGBT! She played with fire and got BURNED! It was INSANE of her to do a news piece and expect the number one click driving part of her to stay secret. She actually thought that journalist that literally make up anonymous sources so they can pretend their opinion has merit, would be honest with her? I do have a tiny bit of sympathy, but her believing an American Journalist sure isn't it.

    The stuff you showed in Ondsel dosn't really differ that much from freeCAD, you were almost there (the part design workbench), all you needed to do is click the create sketch button. From there the programm would have asked you for a plane (unless you selected a surface, then the sketch would be on the surface) and you would have ended up in the sketch workbench.

    Why is it less ok to buy a sv08 than a voron kit? Whether I self source, buy a kit, or buy the sv08, the only way the team behind voron gets paid is if I myself donate. Where I get it from is almost irrelevant. Its down to ME to donate. And with the sv08 I have a lot more spare cash to donate with.

    I dont really understand why fusion360 is always called a free software. As i understand it the "free" version of it only allows you to have 10 Documents at a time that you cant even archive locally, backup or version control. Thats a demo, not a free program ^^ The software is great, but for me there is no point investing time to learn it if i know from the start that everyting i create in it has to go to the bin within weeks. Im currently learning freecad, great software

    I just started using FreeCAD not very long ago. It does have quirky user interface, but once you understands it, it actually a very good and capable 3D CAD software. The only drawback that I found that currently being fixed by them is about Naming Topology issue. I found out that recent development version already solved majority of this Naming Topology issue. I suggest to watch MangoJelly's FreeCAD tutorial to learn how to use it effectively.

    Bambu has been the big comparison for everyone lately, and while others may be making cheaper machines, they've yet to include everything that the bambu machines have (for some reason); not that I'm some bambu shill or anything, I'm just wondering why everyone isn't including accelerometers and load sensors, as well as making machines that require as little attention to get good prince out of as the Bambu ones (at any price point), you would think a lot more machines would be offering these things by now..(not that the printers haven't been making great improvements recently, but it just seems a bit disingenuous to constantly sneer at a group when everyone else still requires quite a bit more attention in comparison 🤷🏿‍♀️)

    Every printer has a trade off. The killer for me is the custom nozzles, I think that was a huge mistake. What they did with open source and donations to the Voron project is great though. I refuse to jump on the Bamboo wagon so will keep kicking my next one around. Still leaning towards a Qidi with heated chamber and klipper, I think it better suits my needs.

    My only issue with network accessed printers is: you need to leave a PC running which wastes power especially when running solar with batteries this is wasted power... So, I will unfortunately not be buying this printer, I prefer the good old SD card method and not to mention the cloud based printers.... What do you do when the net goes down because of IT issues from your ISP? For me, this has been two major steps backwards, having to have to be cloud connected and IP connected for me was not a gam changer..... This though, is just my 2c....

  • @MakersMuse
    @MakersMuseКүн бұрын

    You don't need to leave the PC on, the print is sent to the machine and then it's good to go. I just put the IP in to check it from time to time

    If I recall, Solvol was going to donate a couple of dollars per machine sold to the Voron project. As long as they keep it full open source, then I don't think there are any issues with this from licensing or anything like that. Solvol seem to be sticking to the full license agreements and that's fine in my mind. The machine is not overly expensive compared to similar machines on the market, and wit ha few firmware tweaks, some slicer profile tweaks and a few different nozzle options, this could really be a competitor for some of the closed source machines. I am considering replacing y Ender 5 Pro with one of these. Mainly because I am at the stage now where I am beyond playing printer upgrades and tweaking and prefer to just print good quality prints. It should fit nicely in my existing "tent" style enclosure, but I may also look into the Solvol enclosure as an option is it looks quite a clean solution
