I stumbled across this youtube channel not long after you posted your first UK video. I've been following it religiously ever since. I love the length and pacing of your videos; they're not rushed, so there's enough time to get a real feel for each area that you visit. I must admit that I feel rather sad to see you go (especially with such an unpleasant ending to your UK experience), but no doubt you will have many exciting new adventures in Italy. Thanks for taking us on the ride with you. It was a blast!

Your regular viewers know you don't usually complain like this. At worst you joke about bad situations, so this had to be on a new level. I tweeted ryanair and included a link and timestamp so they get the picture of what their system is doing to their customers.

Kyde and Eric The Caledonian Canal is 60 miles long from Fort William to Inverness. Only one third of the entire length is man made, the rest being formed by loch Dochfour, loch Ness, loch Oich and loch Lochy. These lochs are located in the Great Glenn a geological fault in the earth's crust. The Caledonian canal was opened in 1822. It was built as a shorter and safer route between East and West of Scotland.
Thank you for visiting Scotland. Having travelled the country several years ago doing forest regeneration work, your videos have brought back many good memories of the highlands. Amazing how nice the place is outside the cities.

Apart from Skye, I thought you were incredibly lucky with sunny days for much of your trip round the north of Scotland. Really does show the countryside off to best effect. Also delighted that you liked your Rowies in Aberdeen, though you should really have taken them to where ever you were staying, warmed them up, spread them with lashings of butter and then marmalade. A dish made in heaven!!! We live in London now. You've just made me want to go back to Aberdeen. Just for the rowies!!
I was enchanted by Scotland... and UK in general, through your lense. It is easy to see why some of these places inspired great poets and painters. Stunning, stunning landscapes. Personally, I could live with the food, no prob. considering the nature was beautiful as it was. Thank you for this series. Grade A.

Ya know, Ryanair really isn't an airline. It's just 100,000 parts flying in formation. :))))
Guys, what I love about you is your genuine, warm and honest demeanor throughout your travels. You smile and laugh so much, but are absolutely confident enough to talk about the occasional disappointments that you encounter. I am sensing that the Ryanair fiasco and shocking Airbnb host were the tip of the iceberg and that your last week in the UK was a huge disappointment for you. All I can say is that I've loved watching your videos of your time in the UK, and I'm sure that I speak for many people here who feel very sad indeed that the visit didn't end as well as it should due to frankly inexcusable and unacceptable behaviour that was completely preventable. I hope that your memories of the trip as a whole are much happier, and that you come back soon and visit other amazing parts of the UK, as you will be so welcome, I promise!. Love & peace xx.

Everything you post is so lovely and often delightfully challenging! I love how you two are so synced and able to deal with the challenges of travel. I also love the thriftiness! We are just starting to travel, and your vlogs have been so inspiring! Even when things do not work out, you have a great attitude, and lots of alternative things to do. Great inspiration! My dude is also very tall, so it's fun to watch Eric navigate places where tall people have challenges. We often look at your vlogs before we venture to various destinations. Loved the Croatia series. Our experience there was very similar, and it was fun to watch your vlogs and relate. Our favorite things in Croatia were the walnut brandy and the burek for, like, a dollar - spinach and cheese, or some yummy meat, in delicious pastry, available pretty much everywhere. Yeah, we also didn't like the rum and the so-called "licorice" rakija. (I think we might have bought the same set of small bottles that you had.) Honey and walnut were the best, and we had those almost every night at the cafes along Tkalčićeva. Anyway, thank you for sharing your experiences! Looking forward to exploring Scotland based on your experiences!

when I was little (I'm now 67) the local children's playground permanently had an old man in a little hut employed to keep an eye on what the kids got up to. Stick a couple butteries bottom-up under the grill 'til they're just beginning to crisp, then flip them & do the same to the flat side. Then remove and spread with raspberry jam. Be careful because the lard makes it very hot when grilled. The taste is outstanding. If you must eat them cold then do it with slightly salted butter spread thinly on the flat side.
Thank you!!! Authentic people rock, loved your really helpful tips and look forward to our adventure to Scotland in the fall.

Scotland’s landscape is just surreal, it’s like nowhere else, at least not on the continental Europe. Maybe Iceland or New Zealand come close AFAIK.
So sorry to hear ,your trip here to Scotland, ended with some very bad negatives ,about our service industry, likely the majority of us Scot's agree with you,and we ourselves hate been past from pillar to post, when we have a complaint ,about something, which could be easily rectified,if someone just had some gumption to take responsibility to deal with the situation. I myself do not blame the ordinary worker ,for this problem, but i do blame really bad management, all the way to the top. The people here in Scotland, really take pride, for being known as a friendly and kind nation towards strangers, and i am sure many of us ,who have followed ,you both on your journey around our shores, feel somewhat saddened it ended with negativity,on your last few weeks here,in Scotland. I thank you both for uploading some beautiful and lovely video's,of which some where very funny indeed,i enjoyed viewing your video's very much ,and i hope ,the rest of your journey went well, and you both had a great time,as you seem a very lovely couple, who are really down to earth.

Hi Guys. I have loved watching your travel vlogs and seeing how you both have a great sense of fun and adventure wherever you go. I am Scottish, and I have to say that I totally share your frustration and disappointment with the situation you found yourselves in at the end of your stay. I actually think you were very understated about your problems. Ryanair, well I'll never understand why they are still in business. It's not news that they are a bunch of crooks. Edinburgh airport staff however are equally to blame, if not more so. "It's not my resposibility", oh yeah. Then don't complain when you have to deal with an airport full of angry frustrated travellers who you could easily have helped but chose not too. These people deserve to have passengers shouting at them. Make it your responsibility or suffer the fallout. If your not part of the solution, then your part of the problem. All they have to do is say, "Ryanair, get your shit together or piss off and stop giving us all a bad name". You have of course hit the nail on the head by realising that this is their chosen way of getting people off overbooked flights. Totally unacceptable. Hope you have a great time onward travelling, and the whole of the UK would love to see you back soon, Ok maybe minus one torn face old airbnb cow! (Could you not take her with you to Italy... sorry Italy!) P.s. If you have had a bad stay in a hotel etc, please name and shame, only then will they maybe make an effort to improve!?

Oh man.. that ending is so hard to listen too. The Highlands is my home so it upsets me to hear that you had a hard time towards the end of your trip. I solo-traveled around the the globe through the 80's and 90's so know how one mean-spirited person can ruin an adventure and conversely how one one act of kindness can stay with you forever. I think people in the service industry here are often low paid and generally uninterested - especially in bigger businesses but there is also a Scottish dourness- particularly in Aberdeenshire that can be hard to breakthrough (and plenty of friends from there will acknowledge that) which comes across as hard-faced cynicism. Even now it throws me when I encounter it.. Of course it evaporates as soon as you get to know the person - at least usually! Crazy Airbnb hosts? There ain't no accounting for that shit!
I was just in Scotland in July.......I LOVE the parts I saw, which consisted of mainly 2 major cities, Edinburgh, Glasgow, but other places of interest included Dumfries, Oban, etc. We were there during a "heat wave" of 22 degrees (70 degrees). The Scots were complaining and I was thinking, "Heat Wave??". I would recommend Scotland as a travel destination. Try "tatties and Neeps". amoung other things.

It never ceases to amaze me why so many Americans (not specifically just you guys...) on KZread come to Scotland in the middle of winter and are surprised that it's cold and windy....and off-season as far as tourist-friendly amenities go. For example right now, Edinburgh has the largest international Arts and Comedy festival in the world annually going on right throughout the summer. The entire landscape is green and inviting in the Highlands... not bleak and snowy like it was back when you guys were there. As for RyanAir... they're NOTORIOUS as a dreadful airline with terrible customer service. I'd rather walk to Italy than take one of their planes.

And The highlands are beautifully in winter - even if the days are short. Summer can be a real disappointment in the highlands wet, midgy, touristy and not that warm. Spring and early autumn are always the best times to visit. I think it was great move coming earlier in the year.
@funkfreeze

Personally, I think the Highlands are more distinctive in the winter. They're dramatic and that is emphasised in the harshness. Summer smooths the edges. Winter is the fit for the Highlands. You saw it at the best time in my opinion. Scotland? I've never been made to feel welcomed there, but I'm English. Goes with the territory sadly and I just don't think they're welcoming of other Anglo nationals. Italy on the other hand? They'll treat you like family just for giving them a smile. Venice, and the rest you'll see, is magic. Forza.
@timrogers7693

I don't recognise that Grant.I have plenty of English born friends here and they have never had a problem because of where they are from - they are as much a part of the community as anyone else. its not Glasgow afterall, where your accent can be a problem if you are in the wrong place. All kinds of people wash up in the Highlands and its a generally welcoming place. As I have mentioned elsewhere there is a dowerness in Aberdeenshire which can be hard to penetrate but ant-anglo? Nahh.

Hi guys. Started watching your videos after the Edinburgh episode and have since lost entire days to catching up with your previous content. I'm sorry your experience of Scotland ended on such a downer, we generally are not an unfriendly, unhelpful people so I'd put that down to bad luck more than anything. It's been interesting seeing my city and country through someone else's eyes; Edinburgh is a fantastic city to live in but there probably is quite a lot we could do better! If you're ever back in Europe during August make sure and pop over to Edinburgh for a few days and give us a second chance, the city is a whole different proposition during the annual Festival (the biggest arts festival in the world!) and for a few weeks at least we give those big cities you mention a run for their money!
Don't get me started on ryanair.. You found some really nice spots in Scotland.
So sorry you had such a bad experience with Ryan Air & during your last week in Scotland . Really enjoyed your videos within the UK , hopefully one day you will have an opportunity to visit Southern England.
Scotland is my home. It's wonderful to get your views and perspective of Scotland, even though the ending to your trip was not very nice. Airports are odd places, but all that was so unnecessary... Oh, just so you know It's not pronounced Cock... (see also Cockburn Street in Edinburgh, is pronounced Co-Burn Street) we pronounce it Co Bridge... as in co-operative, the opposite of how R**n**r and your end of trip AirBnB host treated you. If you come back, and I hope some day you do, visit Argyll and Oban area, gateway to the western islands, there are day trips on the ferry .... you don't need to take a car onboard! Really pleased I found your videos, look forward to some more! Slàinte!!

Ha! If you're thinking of Scotland in the summer, you need to know that they have midges (kind of biting mosquitoes) that are as ferocious as hyenas, as annoying as a quadruplet of crying babies on an airplane and as persistent as flies round a dead dog. You get the picture . . .
E&K, those lock gates are at Banavie & are called Neptunes staircase, theres 8 lock gates all together & were designed by a famous Scottish architect called Thomes Telford & the lock gates were completed in 1811.
A Kelpie is a Scottish legend about water horses.
the Easter Aquhorthies stone circle that you were in, is famous because a scientific team set up an experiment to see if the legend of the stones 'singing' had any truth to it, and they found that the stones give off a measurable sound, which they can't explain why or how they do it. There was a tv programme about it ( I think it was an American programme). As Eric said there are loads of stone circles in the NE of Scotland, most of which are easily accessible

I’m sorry that your Scotland visit was ruined by Ryan Air and crap service. ☹️
I'm sad that your last couple of weeks in the UK was so bad! If you ever come back to London, we'll make it our responsibility to make sure you have an amazing time! Looking forward to your Italy videos!
Great last video from Scotland. I can't get over how STUNNINGLY Beautiful the scenery looks. And I'm sure it was so much More beautiful in person. Total BUMMER about the crappy airline situation. Biggest takeaway I have from your Scotland videos now is to not ever use Ryanair flying in and out of Scotland unless your Life depends on it...........and maybe not even then.............lol.
Your experience just sums up the Ryanair experience - it's wilfully, arbitrarily and unendingly awful. From hidden fees, to bullshit admin, to the migraine-inducing yellow they insist on decking the cabin out in. But they know they can get away with it because on the majority of routes they're by far the cheapest provider, hence the indifference of which you felt the wrong end. So unnecessary. So horrible. Thanks for all the videos of the UK and IoM- I always enjoy seeing a visitor's perspective of my country, and I'm looking forward to sharing the rest of your trip with you!

I am Welsh and I can tell you that the stone circles are pre-Roman Brythonic from when the Celts ruled the high countries of these Brythonic - I mean British, of course - isles. They are found all over Wales and Scotland, which shared a common culture, heritage and language until fairly recently - about 2000 years ago. Stonehenge is different. It is very ancient, even by Celtic standards. It dates back to a time when Celtic culture dominated all of Western Europe, many thousands of years ago. It's quite possible that the myriad small stone circles dotted around Wales and Scotland were created as nostalgic reminders of the good ancient days: a product of racial memory 2000 years before we were born. However, I have another theory about stone circles. I think they were the first music and stand-up comedy venues where druids - renowned for their skills in battle and their edgy sense of humour - entertained crowds numbering in the tens with their ready wit and off-beat takes on ancient life, and sang many popular songs about the earth and love and the weather. It's marvellous to see this ancient tradition revived at the largest stone circle jerk of them all: Glastonbury. Rolling around in mud and effluent is certainly the best way today to discover your inner Celt. It almost makes me proud to be some sort of modern pseudo-Celt with barely a Wiki-level understanding of prehistory. Wishing you a very good Spinal Tap from Wales. Land of my fathers and all that. Lechyd da!

That bird in the water was quite rare; it was one of the divers and it came along just to see you, or maybe to get onto KZread!
If you liked the settlement of cock bridge you may also appreciate the village of Twatt in the Shetland Islands .

I LOVE that your reason for going to Aberdeen was because of Johnson from Peep Show. You two are the best!

It's a real shame you didn't get to see Glencoe. That truly is a brilliant place to go through.
Hi guys, love your travels here in Scotland. A kelpie or (water kelpie) is a mythological creature we have that can take the form of a horse. It’s said they protect children from dangerous stretches of water.
I hope it didn't spoil your time in Bonny Scotland, you had some great times. + GWAR!
Greatest start to a video ever. You must visit cockermouth in Cumbria sometime, if you haven't already ;)

Stumbled upon your videos and I have really enjoyed watching them. I especially like the UK ones as being a Brit it is fun seeing how others react to our unique quirkiness that we think is perfectly normal. Britain is full of places and towns with strange and sometimes rude names, I cannot tell you why but it makes everyone laugh. It’s a shame you missed the southern half of England and it’s well worth seeing Devon, Dorset & Cornwall next time 😀

It looked like there was a square of Caramac on top of the cake.

Andy Baker yeh I saw that. Just they won't know that's an original sweet from UK. They might just assume that's the name of a type of cake.
