    What makes Skansen a bit special is that all the buildings are moved there. They are authentic buildings collected around Sweden. Each plot represents the era and region the buildings are collected from.

    Kyde and Eric ! On the whole this is one of the best films you've done! On Skeppsholmen there are a old sailing ship STF Youth Hostel don't know if it is opend in the winter! But it is good! Skansen was starting by Arthur Hazelius he was traveling around the country and picked up old buildings from north to south. If I remember right is it the oldest Outdoor museum in the world so autenticitet it would do withe the wright animal on the place. Funny that you met the geses from Skåne, they live in Skåne gården . You are great Barbro

    Skansen isn't a theme park in that there aren't rides like Disneyland, it's a memorial or a remembrance like most museums of the long and hard history of Sweden and Finland. They have buildings in styles going back centuries encompassing many periods.

    Hedgehogs hibernate until March, so you wont be spotting them anytime soon, but if you hear snorting sound or a sound like someone's snoring in the bush it's a hedgehog, also they usually come out around 5 PM in grassy areas.

Thank you for this video. Do come back for the early summer though! The beginning of June can be stunning with nature just brimming with life and trees being impossibly green. 50 bucks for that location in Sweden is great! And with a public kitchen! I feel like that was a great deal! And about the Max, in November I was in Sweden and tried the Spicy Avocado (because I found it weird to have avocado in a burguer) and it was just amazingness in a burguer!! And at least here where I live, those kiosks are available in McDonalds too, so I don't think it's a Max thing. Great video!! Hugs!

    Those meatballs looked good!! :D The little drink at the end is what i would call Glühwein, i can't bare that stuff while my friends can't stay off.. EU prices are a bit on the high side, tax.. But 52 dollars for a night on a ship in Stockholm isn't that bad! If you guys come to Holland, skip the big city.. It's ruined by tourism, Delft, Den Haag, Volendam (hering/haring town), Alkmaar, Haarlem, Utrecht.. way better for getting a good Dutch feeling! I live in Almere, on a man made island without history. I enjoy this series very much! Have fun!!

    December 13 (Santa Lucia) was the medeval date for the winter solstice before we implemented the Gregorian calendar. It was simply rebranded when the Norsemen embraced Christianity. This is also why the summer solstice (midsummer) is such a big thing in Sweden.

  • @Uncle_T
    @Uncle_T6 жыл бұрын

    Lucia celebration as you saw it is actually a fairly modern thing (late 1920's) with some roots in old catholic celebrations of Saint Lucy/Lucia. You can read more about it in the "Sweden" part of the Wikipedia page about St. Lucy's day here. :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy%27s_Day Skansen is not considered a theme park but as you said an outdoor museum and it's not aiming for a time period, it's aiming to preserve buildings and environments from the past regardless of time period. So all (or at least most of) the buildings are authentic (as in people used to live and(or work in them) and have been moved there from their original locations across the country and that's why you see 16 century farmhouses next to early 20th century gas stations. :) There is usually more going on at Skansen in the summer with people in period appropriate clothing working in the shops making handicrafts/traditional products and they harvest and process some of the crops on the grounds etc. and more animals in the outside enclosures (some of them don't like the cold :) ). A lot of stuff but I'm adding as I watch more of the video. :) Södermalm = South Rock/South (Rocky) island. Central Stockholm's built on 14 islands so a lot of water and bridges. :) Also definitely no grapes in julmust. ;) Sweden is one country in which Coca Cola hasn't managed to become the "traditional" holiday softdrink and Julmust outsells it by a huge margin around Christmas.

    I think all the hedgehogs are in hibernation right now, sry Kyde :) you probably have to wait like another 2-3 month to see one. If you have the chance, check out Karneval in Germany. It is a huge festival with people dressing up and celebrating (well and singing, drinking... :D ). It starts around 8th of Feb and ends about the 12th of Feb. It is heavily celebrated in the area around Cologne, but also throughout German speaking countrys. But be warned: it is usually pretty crowded! PS: Sweden/the north of europe is pretty expensive in relation to other countrys in europe. It will generally get cheaper(cost of food & hotels) the more south/eastern you get.

    Maybe "giving the pacifier" to the cats is some sort of tradition to help children who need to outgrow the habit of using one? Like if parents come with a three or four year old who still uses one its a way of saying, "oh look its time to 'give the pacifier to the cats'".

    I think I would prefer paying $52 a night for a cabin on a ship in Stockholm rather than a lot more for a night in a Japanese Love Hotel, but as you are the experts, you may differ :). The beds in the latter appear better however and the TV entertainment is probably different. Seriously, a great video and your appreciation of the local celebrations is very welcome.

    There is always a way to get free ketchup, I've been to the same Max multiple times - you just need to pick up a little container for it and press one of the whatevers by the soda, and it gives you the perfect amount of ketchup for the container. ;)
