Land Rover Series 3 - Front Axle and Suspension Rebuild and Restoration (Part 1)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#landrover #landroverseries #restoration At long last, it's time to get those stiff front springs swapped for nice new ones! But before any new parts can go in, the rear axle need to come off to do a thorough job of it. The front axle has a number of issues - oil leaks, pitted swivel housings and excessive play in a number of vital and safety-critcal areas. This is the second step in restoring the drivetrain of the 1976 Land Rover Series 3 88" diesel here in the channel - lots more to come. Please subscribe to keep up with this rebuild, restoration and refresh!

The springs look great without replacement IMO. A good clean up, a bundle of thin oil dribbled through the springs and they’d be good as new. If you can get them separated I’d recommend slapping copper grease between the leaves and then wrapping the whole spring in grease soaked bandage (the stuff they use to wrap underground pipes). Once they’re blackened with dust and guff from the road they become invisible. A mate has done that on his Series 2A and it has made a huge difference so I’m going to do the same on by S3 when I work on them next month. I’ve never stripped the suspension before so I’m avidly watching your vids to learn some tricks. Thanks for sharing.

Well yes and no. Everything I am fixing can be seen as consumable but at the same time this vehicle does not see a lot of miles or usage so not impressed by modern bushes that give up so readily! Ah well, gotta love old vehicles!
