Fitting Springs, Shackles and the Rear Axle to my Land Rover Series 2 Restoration
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video, I modify the shackle plates of my Series 2 Land Rover to accept the newer UNF bolts. The original used the difficult to find BSF bolts. Once these are modified I fit the front and rear leaf springs followed by the rear axle!

00:00 Intro
00:17 Why Modify shackles
03:39 Power Tapping
06:11 Blacksmiths Drill Bit
07:06 Pressing suspension bushes
08:48 Fitting Front Springs
10:10 Fitting Rear Springs
12:32 Getting the shackles in the right place
14:28 Fitting the rear axle
15:44 Fitting the brackets and U-bolts
The shackle modification is quite easy, you will need a 13mm drill bit and a 9/16UNF 18TPi tap to convert the BSF holes over to the newer and stronger threads.

Hallo George. Sehr ausführliche tolle Videos. Ich kann viel lernen. Habe einen Land Rover Serie 2a von Baujahr 1964 hier in Thailand. Viele Grüße
Great video, thank you.
Nice job !

Good information and videos as always on the channel! Would you rate britpart gearbox bearings? I'm building my box up and some bearings aren't easy to get in japanese makes

I try to avoid all Britpart things but I don’t have any experience on gearbox bearings unfortunately. How did you get on?
Is the thread drill bit drawn down by the thread itself or do you push a little bit.

Apply a little pressure to start it off and then just the weight of your hand to balance the spring in the pillar drill
Pretty sure the shackle bolts don’t have washers as standard. Edited to add, confirmed by checking the parts book, no washers at either end of the shackle bolt.
